PvP Gankers in Fleetcomm at Beagle Point

Why isn't there a formal in-game PG application / approval / kick process? Oh that's right it's sort of duplicated with squadrons. But squadrons are capped at 500. How is it that certain PGs get FDEV personal account restoration, when the terms of a PG are not required to be defined at the formation of the PG through any sort of in-game mechanics? Why isn't there Open PVE? What a damn mess. I guess if you are one of the cool kids you get your stuff back.
also "why don't squadrons come with a PG rather than having to nominate some member or other to be the gatekeeper?"

A person is helpful and behaves themselves for that long and it's, "Hey, too bad! Random banhammers gonna banhammer."

Sounds like you did him a favor. What a bad attitude on the part of you and that PG.
It's absolutely legit: the attitude expressed above (notice the usual gang cheering it on?) is kind of tame from the Fleetcomm discord crowd. It's just a shame that the DG wasn't able to get them all.

All I know is that if I'm going to spend any time on the DWEIII protecting them by helping to show how fleet defense should actually work, those guys are going to need a sea change in attitude.

This is a contentious subject. No bones about it. Lots of emotion, lots of opinions, all the stuff you see in any kind of issue between people.

I'm hoping with enough time and effort folks will come around and see what we're trying to do. Gonna need some talk but a lot of action as well.

Well, for me it's a win win either way, as I made clear to the DWE directors a while back. I'm guaranteed top flight gameplay whichever side I play for. Bring on my immersion.

The Reapers been takin' this Carcosa project real seriously. We really are lookin' out for Colonia and hoping to make it a more fun, interesting place for everyone. And hey, it was built by explorers, yeah? Well, take the opportunity to join us and make it better for the whole community.

And sure, you and I say some stuff that's real firebrand and provocative. Such is life. But I talked about action, right? Just today met up with a guy at Robardin who'd been out of the game for a while. Never flew a Chieftain before. Bought one today and was just so excited about it. We had a real nice chat and I'm sure I'll see him again.

Got all kinds of stories like that since we moved in there. If that ain't the start of proving good faith I don't know what does!

You use some very emotive language in your posts for someone who doesn't care.

what you failed to understand is that I do not care if my emotive language upsets the gankers, that was what I meant. There's a line in a song called "Living Monstrosity" which sums up my feelings for them:

"a pathetic excuse for a human being".

Note I am not talking about skilled combat between two seasoned PvPers in PvP build ships. This is purely about people breaking the rules of a PG and attacking exploration builds for the "lulz"...anyone doing that has less brain matter than a single celled amoeba.

Then make it clear what you mean instead of criticising my ability to understand.

Once again, you use insults instead of articulating a coherent message. It's a common thing with your posts, isn't it?

reading the PvP comments above I get the overwhelming vibe of "wolf in sheep's clothing", anyone else get that?

Not really, you're being a bit vague. Could you explain what you mean by "PvP comments"? Maybe actually quote the person(s) you're referring to?

Some questions for the gankers who went all the way to Beagle Point ... genuinely interested, I hope some will respond. I have no idea how many of the gankers made the entire trip, and I have no idea whether some of them might be seasoned explorers as well.

1. So, first off, did you have previous experience with exploration?
2. Did you just travel there, or did you stop and enjoy the scenery along the way?
3. Did you ever expect to go to Beagle Point?
4. Have you crossed The Abyss?
5. Exploration is quite the marmite experience, you seem to hate it because it bores the socks off you or you get pulled in and get hooked. Any of you thought you'd be eating nails all the way there and found yourself enjoying it?

Cheers.

I made it clear in an earlier post, it's not my job on the forum to read for other people.

Nope, only a common theme with my posts about seal clubbers, I have other posts on other subjects where I don't insult at all.

CBA'd to quote, but it's all the "we're only trying to help you guys" stuff. Look I've been here a while, read a lot of posts as I lurk more than I post and there's a hardcore PvP group of posters here who have an atitude that I personally think stinks to high heaven. I've tried to make some see the fact that it's a person and not just pixels, but that fell on deaf ears, then I noticed some got y about being insulted and I just LOLd at the complete hypocrisy and yeah to be frank I've given up and just do not care about "their" feelings as they don't care about those of whomever they destroy.

basically giving the attitude back and inwardly laughing at those who get upset by it....mirrors never lie etc etc.

PS also, I make Victor Meldrew seem like a happy chap ;) (probably only Brits will understand the reference)

It's your job to make your posts clear so that other people can read and understand your point of view.

See here:

CBA'd to quote, but it's all the "we're only trying to help you guys" stuff.

If you CBA'd to make yourself clear and quote specifically what you mean, how do you expect anyone to understand your point?

I want to be able to discuss the point and not the poster here, but you're making it difficult through your obscurity.

Look I've been here a while, read a lot of posts as I lurk more than I post and there's a hardcore PvP group of posters here who have an atitude that I personally think stinks to high heaven. Then call it out, man - quote those who you believe to have this bad attitude and have them answer for themselves.

It's more effective at making a point than your Meldrew-esque rambling.

1. Yes. I went to Sagittarius A* right after buying a Viper III. Then I did another trip in a fully armed pre-engineers Federal Corvette.
2. Enjoyed the scenery, took screenshots. Found a water giant.
3. Of course I did, just had to wait for engineers to make it doable in a fully armed ship.
4. Will probably get there today. Most inefficiently due to low jump range.
5. I would not call it enjoyment. I do seem to be considerably more social than usual.

I asked this, because during DWE I took a T-6 with a 25LY jumprange across and got very stuck in there. Couldn't go forward, couldn't find my way back. Spent many hours puzzling to backtrack a couple of 100s of LYs to finally get into a more dense starfield.

That was tense I can tell you. And a heck of a lot of fun :)

Thanks for the reply! Appreciate it.

By the way, here's a selection of responses from the fellers on DWE2

I purchased this game specifically because I heard of this expedition and it has been an INCREDIBLE ride.

Flying through space for all these months has made me feel at home in a way I have no words for. And it's all because of the incredible planning, effort and sacrifice of the organizers of the event, and I have made great friends from across the world along the way.

Arriving at BP just a few minutes ago gave me a feeling of awe and achievement as if I was truly out in the deepest reaches of space. What an unbelievable ride it's been. Thank you! And a million times again!

---

not much to say other than thank you for making this galaxy feel alive again, it's so easy to forget it's a multiplayer universe sometimes. Looking forward to the next one!

---

Finally made it to Beagle point. A big thanks to the organisers, Frontier and all the commanders that took part, its a great community. I would never have got all the way out here otherwise. The next challenge is to get back, hopefully that will be before the next big update :)

---

A lot has happened for me between the start and finish of this expedition.

This was my first time really leaving out from the bubble on something major that lasted more than a day or so. First time I really focused on kitting out and preparing a ship. First time I ever saw the Galactic core. It's been a wild ride and it's been great to socialize with other CMDRs outside my Squadron or the chance encounters in Mobius.

I've seen a lot of amazing things, and I almost didn't make it.

February 13th, after a date night, my wife collapsed while we were picking up our son. I'll spare y'all the details, but she didn't come back to me. I spent the next few weeks not really knowing where to go with myself or what would happen next for myself and our son, but one night I decided to come back and fly, and it was actually to conduct a rescue operation for a stuck SRV. It was a lot of fun, and I realized, a great distraction from everything I was dealing with here at home, and so, once again, I turned to gaming to help get by, and started flying again.

My wife never understood my attraction to space but she loved that I was so passionate about what I did in Elite: Dangerous, so I chose to continue to see the stars and see this expedition through in her honor.

Distant Worlds 3305 will always be seen as a serious life changing event in so many ways for me, but I do appreciate the staff for organizing it, FDev for supporting it so well, and the rest of you CMDRs for making it the experience it is.

Fly safe, hope to see you all again sometime out here in the black. o7

My ship the REINHOLD MESSNER just sat down on WP12 and I have to say the journey was great fun. I can only imagine what amount of work goes into organizing an event like this one, so I really want to say: THANK YOU for the experience!!

I will stay on the edge of the Galaxy for a while before it's time to head back. Anyway, I will definitely sign up for the next DW :p

---

Thank you so very much for all of your hard work, organizers -- it really paid off. I have many fond memories from years of gaming as a hobby, and this will definitely be an experience I look back upon as one of my most favorite. 🖖

---

I worried about space madness and that the black would be lonely on the other side of Sag A*. But instead i've felt like part of such a huge community and this is the least lonely I have ever been. from the bubble to beagle, this has been something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you all for making it happen, and thank you Frontier for backing it. DW2 feels like the answer to why i'm 1200 hours into this universe.

---

I started the game on November 8 and after 3 weeks, already had plans for Beagle Point. I began ranking up, unlocking engineers and preparing in every way I could, then near the end of December when I was almost ready I heard about DW2. After reading a bit about it I knew I was along for the journey. Game recording software running, my Type-10 ready to go (its a space cow but it looks cool), I sat at the beacon on January 13 and jumped out with thousands of other players in the coolest game community ran activity that I had ever been a part of. On the next jump wondering which friends I could get to join the game and what ship I was going to take on Distant Worlds 3, I had only begun to play Elite Dangerous...

Thanks CMDRs and till next time... o7

Finally made it to Beagle Point today and I am very happy to be here - I have been playing ED for over 4 years and I have had several attempts at trying to reach BP without success.

DW2 broke up the long journey by spacing the waypoints in manageable chunks and flying with and meeting other CMDR's made it much easier to reach my goal.

Big thanks to all those hard working CMDR's who put DW2 together and made it work so well 07 CMDR's.

Travelling to Beagle Point was also a great shake-down run for my newly purchased Krait Phantom and what a great ship it turned out to be.

Cheers and fly safe CMDR's

I made it on the 29th, what a journey it's been.

A huge thank you to the organizing team, the many people who were there to assist everyone in need and not least the awesome people in Distant Worlds squadron for their lively banter that made the long stretches a lot more bearable.

And now, onwards to Semotus Beacon. o7

---

Thanks very much to the organizers who made this journey happen and double that thanks to all the Latecomers in the Mobius PG who made this a little less lonely journey.

All Fuel Rats and Hull Seals and all the miners who supported them during their daring rescues, for going above and beyond the call of duty. Fortunately I didn't need their services (at least not yet, we're still just halfway through with this :D) but seriously you guys are the ultimate heroes of this expedition and you deserve to be praised at every opportunity.

This was definitely a journey to remember!

---

To the entire DW2 organizational team, the Distant Radio folks and guests, the mass jump and bascamp shenanigans organizers, the youtube streamers and above all, YOU, the Distant Worlds 2 pilots, I salute you.

Very early on in this expedition (and posted in this same thread) I mentioned that prior to this, Elite was really a solo game for me. At the start of this trip I really hadn't been outside the bubble. I think my first discovered worlds count was about 50ish! It now stands at 1143! I used to dream of the billion credit mark. Credits now seem sooooooo secondary. A means, not an end.

These past months I have made contact with a great group of pilots, friends, confidants and all around great people. Folks that would, in the interest of pushing the "whole expedition" forward, pop a repair or fuel limpet at you without even having to ask. People who were always there with advice or answers to "noob" questions. A "community" that truly lives up to the meaning of that word.

I've now punched my Beagle Point ticket. And I've already bookmarked the exploration forum pages and will be keenly watching the expeditions tab of EDSM for more great adventures.

So to all of you, good luck, keep on keepin' on and stay in touch.

Right On, Commanders!

---

The whole of the Distant Worlds 2 expedition has been an absolute joy - much kudos and thanks to all the organisers, leaders and commanders that have made it such an epic and wonderful trip.

Godspeed and fly safe commanders! o7

---

Thank you for all of your hard work. I loved the trip. It was exhausting...gravity took me away twice. Hull rats tried to save me once..thanks to them for trying! A great time!!

---

Never really thought I'd ever make this trip - before DW2 started, I had to push myself to make the 5KLY for Palin. Now 5KLY is a distance I do on a rainy afternoon ;)

Now I just have to figure out what path to take home (after stopping by Semotus Beacon, of course!!) - where "path" is "somewhere along an outer arm until I decide to change direction" and "home" is now "Explorer's Anchorage" - I seriously doubt I'll ever return to the Bubble on the account I used to complete DW2.

Thanks again to all involved in organizing and managing this expedition - it was one of the hightlights of my gaming life (and I've been "gaming" in one form or another since around 1980...)

Just to bring some perspective and a smile to your face.
