Hardware & Technical Geforce Experience - Shadowplay stopped working with Elite?

Up to about 3 months ago I used to be able to record Elite very easily using Shadowplay.

Behold my shiny footage:

I was using s Shadowplay 2.0 version because it just worked, and 3.0 didn't and had loads of bells and whistles I didn't want.

Did they do something to the display driver that broke 2.0? Over the last few weeks I've tried to get a 3.0 working with clean installs, using the Display Driver removal Tool, and various other tactics, all to no effect. I'm using a humble GeForce 760 with Windows 7, but it always used to work splendidly, indeed GeForce Experience claims my system is ready to go.

Has anybody surmounted similar problems or have any advice?

Thanks.

What driver are you using?

I'm using 384.76 (quite old) with the last v2 version of GeForce Experience 2.11.4.0.

I've been waiting for the time when the latest graphics driver didn't work with GeForce Experience v2, maybe this is it.

Edit: Card is GTX1070.

I'm using the latest everything on a 770 and mine seems ok.

Although, I've not actually saved anything, because the destination drive is actually nearly full, and I haven't bothered to change it. Lol

I need a bigger SSD. 120Gb is a bit weak. Especially since Windows 10 ate most of it.

Did it only stop working with Elite Dangerous, or did it stop working other games as well?

I don't like Shodowplay 3.0+, because I hate having to log in just to video my games, which I share with my friends, and rarely make them public. Not only that, but most of the time, I couldn't get it to work anyway. I found the latest version of Shadowplay 2 (v2.11.2.46), that I could download and install, and use that. Until about 2 weeks ago, it worked fine, but now it doesn't work unless I use "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience\LaunchGFExperience.exe" -shadowplay launch option in the desktop shortcut, but even then, it only records the last 10 minutes worth of gameplay. It works fine for recording on the go (Alt+F9), but stops working if I press Alt+10. That's why I asked if it stopped working for all games like mine did.

I had a similar problem where I was happily using an older GeForce Experience v2 and then it stopped working a few months back following an unexpected nvidia driver update. In the end I had to go through a bit of a rigmarole of uninstalling GeForce Experience, cleaning out old graphics drivers with DDU, then re-installing just the new nvidia driver, then going into my update preferences and telling Windows not to automatically update my drivers, then re-installing that old GeForce Experience 2 (and removing the NVDIA "Update" folder to prevent it from immediately updating itself again). It was all a bit of a faff but I'm now happily running with old v2 Shadowplay again and fairly recent NVIDIA drivers.

This is what I've been doing - sticking to GeForce Experience V2. I hate the new GeForce Experience with a passion. Buggy as hell, awful interface, and it forces you to sign in. Happily, I learnt the removing or renaming the update folder trick a long time ago.

OP, I'm using a GTX980, driver version 388.31 and GeForce Experience version 2.11.4.0. ShadowPlay is working fine for me in ED. You should double check that you haven't accidentally switched the ED display mode to borderless window, as ShadowPlay won't work for this mode unless desktop recording is turned on.

Hmm. Well I’ve been running the latest stuff and it’s working much better than the old for me. I no longer have problems with it turning off if I alt-tab, I can record with a borderless window, I can even bring up a web site while recording and it gets recorded too. Plus the sound is better, as well as the video quality.

I much prefer the new software.

It looks like I might have to do that.

I only delete the setup.exe in the Update folder, as I found that it would download the entire update again, if it checked for updates, if I removed the folder. :(

Geforce Experience 3.0 works fine for me, the only problem it has is detecting the ED screen (OBS sometimes has the same problem when not run as admin).

You have to go into the Shadowplay overlay (Alt+Z) on your windows screen and turn all Instant replay or Recordings off before you start ED and once ED is running press Alt+Z again on the ED screen (Main Menu or ingame) and turn Recording or Instant replay back on.

Another thing maybe for folks to test with the latest drivers...

If you have the In-Game Overloay enabled, see if your Windows Screensaver still comes up after X minutes?

I've always had In-Game Overlay enabled, but over the last few weeks I noticed my screen saver was no longer kicking off. Seems having it enabled now prevents Windows from believing your pc is idle. I'm suffering from this, and diagnosed the issue after reading someone else reporting it.

Yes, it's a bit of a rigmarole to get this done which is probably why I don't update my graphics driver very often unless I'm seeing a problem.

As well as removing the "Update" folder I also disable some of the Nvidia services as I'm not using those features and of course the telemetry one.

GeForce Experience complains once when you start it to set or change preferences but Alt-F9 works normally.

Alt-F10 is the High Res screen shot in ED, when in Solo & PG. Are you getting a conflict from that? I moved the Shadowplay keysbindings because of that.

I don't play many other games, but it doesn't work on Shadow of War either. BTW, I've only ever used Shadowplay with Alt F9, that is manually recording a sequence, I don't leave it recording all the time so you can use the last 10 minutes or whatever.

Borderless windows are a mystery to me, how would I check that please? Sorry if its a daft question. :)

Interesting. When I had Shadowplay 2.0 working, I generally had to the opposite, make sure it was on (green light) then fire up the game. It wouldn't work if I fired up Shadowplay mid game.

As a test, yesterday I installed 390.77 without GeForce Experience 3 and then installed GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 and after doing my normal jiggery pokery it all worked the same as before, so I'm happy on that count.
Recording with ShadowPlay with Alt-F9 works with ED (full screen) and the Desktop (after ticking Allow desktop capture) at anytime.
I never have Shadow Time on.
I have to start GeForce Experience with the shadowplay option on the shortcut to get to the settings.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience\LaunchGFExperience.exe" -shadowplay
