I am a male. 45 years old. Frontier (Elite II) blew my mind when I was around 20 and I've been waiting for a worthy successor ever since.
My wife is an awesome gamer, just not in "vehicle" generes. She is super smart and can crack any sort of puzzle or adventure game in record time. She has no interest whatsoever in flying games and the few times she's tried ED she's had a serious case of motion sickness. She's not good with rollercoasters or boats so, no surprise there.
I think there is practicality barrier that prevents females from finding fun in this type of game. At least at first glance. Take a look at this video below. It is part of a series called "According to my girlfriend" where the guy exposes his GF to Star Citizen in order to get her unfiltered views.
Go straight to 4:01, where she talks about the perceived value of the game and how it stacks against other expenses... such as Bananas.

In later videos you'll see how her opinion shifts as she gets more proficient on the game and develops a "value" scale based on what she already knows about the game.
