Thank you to all the commanders who shared their personal info. I'm also gratified to see that there are quite a few 60+ year old players.

Frankly, I expected a higher percentage of female players, but the poll has a few more days to run. We'll see.

Thanks again!

Well uh... I'm male and I'm 16 years of age.

Now that that's out of the way... What drew me to this game is how difficult it is! I'm sick and tired of these "Oh it's okay, everyone's a winner!" games. I love space and the universe and lore of Elite, and one of these days I'm gonna figure out where I can get my mits on an '84 Frontier game! So that I can see just how much this series has evolved and changed. I really envy you older (and wiser! :D) players!

You can get the 1984 version in the Frontier Developments Store in the Elite Dangerous "games" section.

*Cat running on linoleum* Really? I play on Xbox so I don't really hang around the official frontier store. I'll see if my old laptop can run it! Thanks!

it may have done better in the general dangerous forum - would be interesting to know for sure, it's been nice to see what seems like a better balance here than your poll is showing

Male, 65. Met my wife playing Second Life. We've played a lot of WOW together, but ED doesn't interest her.

I am a male. 45 years old. Frontier (Elite II) blew my mind when I was around 20 and I've been waiting for a worthy successor ever since.

My wife is an awesome gamer, just not in "vehicle" generes. She is super smart and can crack any sort of puzzle or adventure game in record time. She has no interest whatsoever in flying games and the few times she's tried ED she's had a serious case of motion sickness. She's not good with rollercoasters or boats so, no surprise there.

I think there is practicality barrier that prevents females from finding fun in this type of game. At least at first glance. Take a look at this video below. It is part of a series called "According to my girlfriend" where the guy exposes his GF to Star Citizen in order to get her unfiltered views.

Go straight to 4:01, where she talks about the perceived value of the game and how it stacks against other expenses... such as Bananas. :D

In later videos you'll see how her opinion shifts as she gets more proficient on the game and develops a "value" scale based on what she already knows about the game.

Eeeeh, generalize much? I do prefer my bananas organic though :D And yes I play the game because my bf paid for it, so I could spend my 30 Euros on organic bananas xD

Hi Artigan, I also play Second Life and have been a resident since 2004; my husband started before me as a Beta player in 2003 and has a Lifetime Account - unfortunately I missed out on that! I don't play as much as I used to but I have a Jewellery business in SL and also occasionally go online to play - Mahjong! :D We've both played WoW in the past too, and I still enjoy that for a change sometimes. He is 63 and I will be 63 in October. :)

Nah, not my intention. Generalizations are generally wrong. :D It is just a hypothesis.. with a 3 point sample now that you've added your testimony about Bananas. ;)

What can I say? I just like bananas :D Organic bananas more than nonorganic bananas though.

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I'm a male 39 years old. Although my character/name in game is female (my daughters name)

I played on pc around 99 for the first time and later I played oolite a lot. I had a speccy but at the time I wasnt interested in this type of game I was more of an outrun kind of guy.

I fell in love with the original game when I first played it. I saw it had entered beta and bought it straight away, to be honest I was a little sick that I didn't see it in time to back it in KS.

Wife doesn't play she likes to knit instead, I can see she is trying to show interest but when I explain things to her she just looks at me blankly and nods her head. My children are too young for games but I would like them to develop an interest in space in the future.

I always loved space my greatest hero was always Gagarin so this game feels natural for me to play.
I'm quite a loner in space, but generally gender isn't so important to me for gamers the more the merrier don't care about people's plumbing ))))

I'm a woman and I play Elite Dangerous. I'm also trans...I dunno if that has a big effect on my attraction to the game but I guess I was socialized male and sci-fi has always been a big part of my life...?

You're not alone there. I've personally met at least three others who play Elite Dangerous and one is a very good friend. :)

Wife doesn't play she likes to knit instead,

Nothing wrong with that - I also like to knit. In fact I have so many other hobbies and interests it's difficult to find the time to do them all. I often wonder how I used to find the time to work before I retired. :D
