Genuine question: Why are imperial ships so popular?

I think the Imperial ships all have fantastic stats on paper, but in appearance are just disgustingly ostentatious. I do not like the asthetic.

I much prefer the industrial styling of Lakon or Core Dynamics, and apart from the T9, both those manufacturers offer fabulous handling as well.

I only like the imp eagle honestly. The others looks polished just because, no practicality. I like functionality over looks every time.

That being said, I like the imp eagle only when I paint it black.
