General / Off-Topic Gerry Anderson’s classic Space: 1999 is being rebooted with a new cast

Space 1999 is getting a reboot - albeit an audio drama from Big Finish Productions

The Space: 1999 revival will launch with the pilot episode Breakaway! on 13th September 2019 (the 20th anniversary of the lunar explosion, according to the in-show timeline) with four episodes expected to follow in early 2020.

Episode 1, where the moon breaks out of Earth's orbit, would probably be quite interesting.
Episode 2, where the moon drifts through deep space for thousands of years before encountering any other stellar body, not so much.

I hope they only build on season 1 the rest was weird garbage. Or even better stay true to the books.

Have you watched any of the first season recently? It was nearly all weird garbage with some truly daft plotlines. Entertaining though, with a great theme tune.

I named my cat after Maya.

Through my young boy's eyes, it was an amazing show! I hope it lives up to the original, although few shows do (I mean in my fantasy's eyes it was THE show, but if I watch it now I'll probably turn it off)

I saw this news on the BBC (with its clickbait title) and learned the interesting fact that there were only two series. Personally I preferred UFO, it had better title music as well!

I was reading up on wikipedia yesterday - saw that it was a co-production between UK / Italy and was wondering if that was the reason the second series was so mad - but no - Italy were involved in the *1st * series - it was the yanks that caused the 2nd series fun :)

Also never realised Space 1999 was originally going to be the 2nd series of UFO ... both are fun pages if you like your Gerry Anderson

Uhuh.

Even as a 10 year old, I had this nagging doubt in the back of my mind about where they were finding all these mysterious planets.
That always makes me laugh. The moon must have been travelling somewhat faster then the speed of sound and somehow travelled in a direction that would let it encounter various planets, when the likely hood is that it would just drift off and not encounter anything.

WORMHOLES! What more explanation do you need :)

Remember this was the 70s, before we knew space was big ;)
