Newcomer / Intro Getting into Open Play, help!

So, this is probably the noobiest I've ever felt. I purchased the game recently and have enjoyed trying out the tutorials and am ready to start gaming with friends. However, every time I click open play it puts me into solo mode. Do I need to complete every single tutorial to get into open play? Or is there something else I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.

When you first start Elite Dangerous with a new commander you need to jump to another system before it places you in open.
