Getting lost at terrain work

Yesterday i started a new zoo for the relaxation of it, thinking it would be neat to have a go-to zoo, however, i have been finding myself getting quite lost when thinking about the terrain work/terraforming part, and not really going further with the zoo because of this.

Help, how do I decide on what to do terrain-wise, and how do i keep up with a decided terrain?
Here's a picture of the current entrance, i plan on having the zoo behind the small building:

Just be careful and not do too much terrain modification, as it will make your zoo very laggy. If you want some inspiration, check out the scenarios, they have some beautiful scenery :)

You don't have to any/much terrain work, or you might find you get ideas as you progress through your zoo.

If you are interested in terrain and need to be inspired or want to get quite advanced with it, then I can recommend some wonderful youtubers who you can pick some tricks up of.

I have some pretty extreme terraforming at my zoo and haven't noticed any lag. I wonder if this is the same for every zoo? Mine doesn't have many habitats, just 9, but they are all very large. Perhaps that is why?

Well I started feeling the lag when my zoo looked like this;

And by that time I didn't have any animals and just like 5-10 staff members (because I bought stores and didn't know they came with staff) and the zoo was closed.

When I had to give up on the zoo cus of extreme lag and non exicting fps it looked kinda like this (with over 100 animals and even more staff (still closed though).

The answer I got when contacting Frontier about the lag was that it was probably because of all the terrain modification. So it's not something I came up with myself :)

terrain work never seemed to have much impact in Planet Coaster but I guess the difference is in PC everyone stuck to the paths. Now the game is having to calculate pathing for staff who can go off path as well as all the animals so maybe the terrain work has a bigger impact. Just a theory.

Here's mine so far. Just under 4000 guests and no lag. I'm not done but I'm not noticing anything getting worse as I build it up.
