Getting Rank Elite in Explorer

So I'm currently setting at the Rank 'Pioneer' for my Explorer Rank and looking tonget that last push to Elite. But I'm at a loss on how I even got to my current Rank. Site I scanned systems as I went from one to another.

But I'm looking to go for gold, as they say and am looking at what I can do to get it done. I'm currently at Pioneer 58/100. And I'm using a really kitted out Asp Explore, for my long distance traveling.

There are many more or less "exploity" ways to get your Elite rank very very fast. Try Robigo sightseeing passenger runs or Road to Riches. You'll probably get there in a few hours with the latter.

Go out there! Scan lots of stuff! Return and don't get blown up, hand in, done... :D
Or wait for 3.3 to hit and do it then.

Just do what you like to do. Don't look at your rank level, as getting that rank isn't important at all. Its just a rank. Supposed to mean someone played the game longer.
The only perk you'll get for reaching Elite in any of the areas is Shinrarta Dezhra permit, where you can get all the ships in one place (at a 10% discount I guess?).
If you're after credits, go after credits, you'll rank up anyway.

That doesn't really answer the OP's question now, does it?

Would using a Surface Scanner help?

Yes of course. (Up until tuesday though :D)

Green is using a DSS:

I've enjoyed doing the long-range "deliver a scientist to a place" missions, combined with lots of sightseeing and scanning along the way. The missions add a bit of a bump to the final credits, but more importantly give me motivation to keep going, since I know that there's at least _something_ at the end of the road that someone has found interesting. I think that in the end, it was the scans along the way that moved me the fastest toward Elite, but having a goal to the trip was nice. But watch out for where their destination is! I almost got in trouble a couple times with locations that were out of my jump range.

3.3 (Chapter 4 ) goes live on Tuesday of next week.

Passenger runs (sightseeing etc.) will increase explorer rank, or if you want to earn a few credits and flit around like a busy bee try the original Palin mission doing the scans etc on guardian sites...

Have you done the Ram Tah missions yet? If not, head to Meene, pick them up, scan all the interesting stuff you find on the way, then when you return you should easily hit Elite (that's how I did it on 2 accounts).

Note that these missions should be A LOT easier to do after the update (from a "finding the sites" perspective, at least).

Are you out in the Galaxy somewhere, or back in civilization ? Because you might want to switch ships (although there's nothing wrong with the Asp, just that there will be more options).

It's fast but not THAT fast. Between mining sessions I've been farming G5 manu/data mats from mission rewards at Robigo using pax missions. Almost a week there, every day couple hours, so say ~14 hours so far. (shieldless python with max PAX cabins build)

Started at just barely gained Pioneer rank and now about 75% bar full. Admittedly I've been taking every G5 reward vs raw cash so that slows down progression some as I believe amount of exploration xp you get is tied to the cash reward of the mission. But still, that's almost a week of 2 hours every day, ~14 hours and I'm making great progress by old standards but hardly the 'few hours' you imply.

Also note the regular exploration turn in has been significantly enhanced. Just before while i was ~50% into Ranger, I did the 1k LY trip to unlock Guardian FSD booster. I only stopped to fully scan 1 system where I saw a suspected earth like, and for rest just honked, scanned star, and jumped. Just that honk/jump plus 1 system scan of 1k LY trip on return boosted me from 50% ranger to ~1-2% pioneer.

If I wanted Elite I would be better off just exploration honking and scanning, but the cash/mats + exploration xp at slower rate is great option if you want the cash/mats.
