Getting the SRV out of a tight spot!

Over the last few days I've been "ridge running" on Synuefe VM-D C15-10 2 A.

Essentially this activity involves attempting to travel as far as possible along one of the ridges of this extraordinary planet, something which was first brought to my attention by Cmdr -NeXuS- of Delta Squadron. You can find more information about the exact location towards the bottom of the following forum post ...

A-guide-to-good-base-jumping-locations

On my first attempt earlier in the week I had a pretty good run (shown in red on the image above) which included a certain amount of luck (if I'm being honest) where I fell off the edge of the primary ridge, managed to bounce across the top of another ridge and then continue my journey along a third (before eventually falling off that). The full journey can be viewed (at x4 speed) in the following video.
Anyway ... today I made another attempt at jumping across to the long middle ridge but the light was poor (yes, that IS my excuse) and I fell ... badly ... and ended up WAYYYYYY down the bottom of an extremely steep ravine that was utterly impossible to drive out of. I recalled my ship (which thankfully came down right above my SRV) but unsurprisingly it couldn't land nor even get close enough to the ground for me to perform a mid-air boarding manoeuvre (which is sometimes possible).

I was about to give up when a thought occured to me. Could I scramble the SRV up onto the back of my ship and then use my own ship's takeoff to launch me up out of the canyon?

The following video records what followed (which I thought was pretty cool and serves to remind fellow planetary explorers that it's never over until it's over).

Wow. I think I'll head over this weekend. Looks cool.

......................

Python with a ship-kit.

I just drove straight off a cliff in the dark (not on purpose), face planted into the opposite cliff & tumbled to the bottom. My recalled ship parked itself at the top of the cliff (my launch point I guess) but having done this many times before & never yet had to self destruct I got back to my parked ship in only about half an hour.

I'd been heading towards a cargo POI, which was half way down a cliff face. I used the SRV scanner to get a bearing & used the ship lights to locate a pair of occupied escape pods. Back in the SRV I jumped off the cliff again (on purpose this time), grabbed both escape pods (and a refined focus crystal - nice :)) and now I'm back in my ship again.

In the grand scheme of things I achieved very little in this session, I earned little money & used a fair bit of SRV fuel, but I had an adventure ;)

This ^^^^. He gets it, totally. Money, materials, rep, rank ... ultimately they're all worthless ... the only true profit for me is adventure and fun, eveything else is a means to this end. In the above scenario you win ... totally! [yesnod]

Coda - I had one last (perhaps) attempt at running the long middle ridge this morning.

Starting from point A my goal had been to drive all the way to point C. This time I succesfully managed to hop down onto the long thin ridge but alas fell off somewhere near point B. It's a fantastically challenging drive, in places so narrow that you have to inch your way along because one slight deviation and you're off the ledge and plummeting down into the canyon far below. The image captioned "another tight spot" below was the start of another attempt to use the ship to get me up out of the canyon but alas this time it was just too deep and I failed to get out.

I earned zero money and used ALL my SRV fuel (not to mention 4 SRVs in total) but it's been an awesome adventure!

WOW that is amazing

This is the kind of terrain I want to see on certain areas of higher G planets to.
