Getting use out of those X52 extras (pic hvy)

Put power management on the left finger wheel as I did on my setup. Click for sys, up for eng, down for weapons.

That has the same issue for me, kept hitting that during the heat of combat. Did have it set as click to deploy weapons and up/down for fire groups.

Not fun scanning a viper in a head to head pass :(

I think that may be as you're using the left hat for thrusters and therefore more involved with the left stick.

Make the right lower hat your thruster... Leaves your left hand to do things like reverse, fa off, heatsinks, weapon groups, subtargets and power balancing in combat.

Also - the 2 stage trigger on the right allows you to have a full grab of fire 1 to boost power to weapons, cutting back when released.

Another batch of e-mails and instructions sent out - this time with some more tweaks and changes for the scoops on the rotary and some keybinds for use in the galactic map.

Scoop as in cargo scoop?

I managed to get the power management set up on the main rotor with max engines full clockwise, full weapons anticlockwise and full system in the middle.

Trying to see if I can get power shutdown macros to work on the second rotor, but not working the way I expected at the moment.

Thanks for putting that together Calaban.

I'm having issues with my profile editor though. It won't load or test any profiles I save. I'm hoping someone here has seen this and knows of a solution.

I get the following error when I try to use a profile:

An unknown error has occurred.\n\nThe device has not been profiled.

I also notice that your (OP's) driver version is the same as the smart software - 7.0.27.13.

Mine is stuck at 5.5.0.82 and when I try the latest ones they hang asking me to connect my controller.

Has anyone seen these issues? And does anyone have the current driver for Windows 8.1?

Thanks in advance any and all.

UPDATE: I found 6.x drivers on a 3rd party site and they've worked out for me so now I can use the profiler. If anyone wants the link for that I can provide it.

I can't get the thumb mouse to work in game though. Anyone had any luck with that?

Thank you so much OP. This is great, binding almost everything on the Joystick is a life saver. I'm especially thankful for the pinkie switch trick!

I highly recommend all people who are not used to playing with sticks all the time to really bind EVERYTHING they can. It could seem a bit annoying to get used to all of the buttons but when it's done, you can perform some pretty nice stuff in the middle of a fight. Think about it, you're gonna spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours in Elite - So taking a lot of time to change your settings, test them and tweak the whole thing a bit is DEFINITIVELY worth it!

I'm still curently rethinking everything in my bidings.
Does anyone knows if you can bind the engines on/off?

Just got my X52 yesterday and did all the stuff in this thread so I never came across the issues it fixed... so thank you for that, OP :)

Thinking about also using the modes for Cruise, Combat and Docking... did anyone with a non-Pro get that going? Went through the thread but sounded like it was all Pro users.

Also, does anyone else have issues with the UI navigation? The top HAT 4-way only goes sideways, the bottom one only up/down. I'd like to use one of the for the navigation, but can't seem to do that.

That's my problem as well. Just got the x52pro yesterday so I havent really messed around with the programmability and the software, instead I just connected it with the windows and began playing immediately, so perhaps the programming software solves this issue?

I could use some advice though for its lamentable to spend hours configuring stuff when you could be playing ;)

So I'm trying to do this since some of the buttons won't map in the game, but I don't see any software installed for my X52 in either that bottom-right toolbar or the start --> programs menu. I tried installing the SST software, and it seems like it installed. Is there something else I need to install? I have windows 7 btw and non-pro X52 hotas system.

The software is called Smart Technology, look for this folder in your Programs. I got my x52 as well today, followed the first post and got everything working fine - thx Calaban - very good work, saved me at least an hour :)

Hmm, I don't have any "Smart Technology" in my folder. How do I get it? I went to Saitek's site and believe I downloaded the SST software...but I don't see anything.

Open your devices and printers window, right click your joystick, choose the "can't remember right now"-option (can't check because I am at work), it was somekind of "settings" or so. You get to see your joystick axis and buttons. From one of the tabs, you can probably find "enable unclutched mode" or something like that, untick it and your buttons should map fine.

Okay I finally got the software installed after multiple install/uninstall attempts and restarts. I went through the instructions, but when I select it, it says "does not contain a profile for this device. The device has not been profiled." and It wont select it.
So in the programming screen there is a button that says "profile". I click it but I get an unknown error.

Anyone get this and know how to fix either of these?

I'll have to check my settings later, but you can easily change the UI panel focus controls to your liking.

Personally, I like having one HAT (bottom one) for navigation between panel tabs and up and down. I use the upper-left HAT for panel selection (in conjunction with the pinky button, which I have to UI focus) as well as left and right for the currently selected item (awkward, but not used very often, on the right panel). Back to the UI panel selection, I didn't like pressing left on the upper-left HAT, so I bound pinky-button-HAT-down to activate the left panel.

got my x52 today..tomorrow i will get this thing fixed..=)
(no..it aint friday afternoon yet for me...i have still go to work..meh)
