Ghost Recon - Breakpoint

Played the Open Beta in Single Player mode for a few hours this evening it is ok but it didnt blow me away.

I was unable to select things such as Intel when interacting with objects and people, which was frustrating and I have to say I am not a fan of third-person , fortunately aiming is effectively first-person.

My experiences thus far havent made me want to rush out and buy it, I will probably get it when it is on sale.

I enjoyed the first one and its my birthday this week coming so i'll probably treat myself to it now that im not buying Planet Zoo.
Sorry for OT, but as Leo felt the need to mention his decision, may I ask why are you not buying PZ, all of the sudden?

And back on topic

Yes, those are basically my feeling from the closed beta several weeks ago - meh.
Did they at least fix the horrible animations?
I'm probably going to play it at some point anyway (winter and spring next year don't seem to have much to offer), but it falls behind Wildlands in way too many things.

Since I signed up for Uplay+, breakpoint has been released to pre-load now and available to play from the 1st October. I've also downloaded the open beta..but haven't felt the urge to open it up and play as yet...since the closed beta was a bit pants.

We'll see if it grabs me once I try the full game...if it's still complete pants...back to Wildlands it is.

Unfortunately not, I played a bit more this morning and found the animations surprising bad. Walking through the Jungle your character seems to be lumbering and climbing over rocks etc looked quite strange, then there is the strange motions you seem to go through when carrying someone.

I've been informed that the path laying is much the same as it is in PC so thats a hard pass for me if PZ is the same.
I see. Well, I see it as a trade off, really. People want more freedom in what they can do in the game, complaining that JWE was too basic. But with complex possibilities inevitably comes complex controls. shruggs
Personally I don't see it as a problem. It works. You have to spend several hours to learn everything but ultimately clunky UI never stopped me from playing. It's certainly easier than controls in Elite. :D

I've got UPlay+ as well but I don't have the luxury of space, unfortunately. :D
Though I'm upgrading my PC regularly and I'm adding new drives, I still game only from the 500GB system SSD, so I have to chose what I play.
I'm going to have to wait until I finish either Conan Exiles or Greedfall first and hope they're going to fix things in the meantime.

I played the previous betas for a few hours, and apart from the exploration mode from AC: Odyssey, I did not really like it all that much, so I did not even check out the open beta this weekend. Like the OP I'm not too keen on third person shooters - I think the transition from 3rd to 1st person is just too jarring - and I only finished Wildlands this year, even though I've had it since release. I guess I'll pass on Breakpoint.

Had a lengthy co-op session in the full release with a mate last night...and I was extremely surprised that I actually liked it... in direct comparison to my experience in both betas.

It played like Wildlands...we had as much fun and challenge as we had in wildlands. Besides the sometimes janky (but not as bad as beta) animations..we had a proper good night on Breakpoint. Looks like I may have been overly harsh purely judging on the previous beta experience...there's a few teething bugs, nothing too major or gamebreaking, I'll certainly put it on the regular play list after last night. However...I still hate the weapon levelling nonsense Ubi ripped from the division. Silly idea all together.

That's a shame. I really enjoyed Wildlands once I'd got use to the 3rd person/FPS switching.
It's not as bad as I thought it would be to be fair...it's a bit clumsy due to whatever they've done with the game engine and character animations...apart from that, it's not bad at all.

I got the ultimate edition free with UPlay+...so it's not like I had to buy it to try it out.

Actually the 3rd person is a big plus for me, personally. I can't play FPS, because they're hectic, disorienting and sometimes downright nauseating for me.
The problem with 3rd person, though, is that the character models and animation must be good, which in Breakpoint it isn't unfortunately.

Well, Uplay+ is 14,99€/month, so not exactly free, is it? Especially if you're like me and already have every Ubisoft game you're even remotely interested in. OTOH, your impressions in post #9 do sound quite positive, and I know that at least one friend of mine is going to bug me relentlessly to play coop with him.

It looks like there will also be plenty of opportunities to part with your money:

Yup...there's a few of them if that's your thing. Standard Ubisoft fare with all their games from the AC series to GR wildlands though so nothing new to write home about. Most of the stuff is available in the campaign game, you find it in boxes around the map or by doing specific missions... but you know the PvP folks, always wanting that pay to win edge. For PvE and co-op, there's absolutely no point in any of it since the NPC's don't care if you have a fancy pink and green paint job on your guns or not..

It is indeed...but still a better deal for me than forking out £80 for the ultimate edition of breakpoint since I wasn't particularly blown away by the betas. In addition, a few of my Ubi titles I didn't have the ultimate edition DLC (Like for Origins) which gave me something new to play in those games. With the £14.99 per month drop in/drop out subscription model...it suits my gaming tastes. I already have gamepass ultimate for the Xbox/PC and Origin access premiere for the EA stuff which are both pretty good deals.

Just noticed that Origin access has 'A Plague tale, innocence' in the vault too...I was looking to buy that game at some point...very interesting looking.

I`m afraid this is what gaming will be like in the next years. You buy bare boned version for minimum 60$ entry price that has microtransactions, four different "deluxe elite ultimate" editions for another 20 - 35$ with season pass on top of it. Non of it worth the entry price. And folks will buy it because new gamers dont know that it can be different.

That's why I prefer the subscription services currently on offer...I like variety and I can drop in and out as I see fit. The days of buying a game for $20 for a few hours of entertainment are long gone sadly.

I recently cancelled my Steam pre-order of Cyberpunk 2077 and re-ordered it via the GOG Galaxy launcher...direct from CDPR....only a few pence difference in price but I'd prefer CDPR got all my cash instead of only 70% of it.

Well I've put in few hrs ... after I crashed on Auroa ( forgot I had 3 days early access, but was busy at work being a rite ol' grownup for 2 of those anyways, so was to tired for late nite gaming sessions ) I spent several hours learning the ropes. I have played most of the GR games since 2001 and I gotta say I am liking the new more in depth
RPG-ish direction that we have in this new iteration. So much so that it kept me hooked till 0200 hrs the first evening. And my squad mates were LOLing a few times last nite ingame. Good times good times.

There have been some gargantuan patches of late and I just got a copy with a recent GPU purchase ... so I will give a go when I get around to downloading it.

Well, I downloaded the 52GB last night, went to play this morning and cant even make it through the initial character creation without it crashing to desktop!!

There also seems to be a lot of a chatter on the UBISoft forums about the latest patch breaking things .... Not good!
