Give Commanders another chance to pick up the Cobra Mk IV and/or Lifetime Pass

Hi guys,

I know that neither of these items have proven to be the most popular in the past, but for completionist Commanders who weren't necessarily aware of it having been available on a pre-order basis, and/or Commanders that want to support Frontier's efforts a bit more, it's vexing to not be given any opportunity to pick-up the Cobra Mk IV and/or Lifetime Pass, in order to fully round-out their gaming experience :(.

Might it be possible for the peeps at Frontier to create some sort of opportunity for these two options to be offered to the player base once again ? Since both were costed options initially, it wouldn't be that much work for Frontier to offer a Cobra Mk IV unlock within the ARX system (especially since the ship is already commonly-available within the game to Commanders that pre-ordered it), and with increasing numbers of players, renewed Lifetime Pass options may bring in additional revenue for the business which may, in turn, help fund future expansion packs and the on-going development of this awesome game series :).

Just a thought, but I'd pick up both if they were available, and I'm sure I'm not the only one :).

Cheers,

Another one... Surely you could have contributed to one of the many threads about this?

I get your completionist stance but honestly:
The MK IV is useless and the LEP has not lived up to its experience right now.
Even being a completionist I would feel really ripped of to shell out money for that.

That's fine, it's not about forcing people to buy it, it's just about giving people the possibility of buying it, which is sadly lacking at the moment  :)

I did do a search before posting, but nothing obvious came up - apologies if there's one floating around that I hadn't seen.

Only about one a month.

You do realise you are asking FDev to take the metaphorical combination of chainsaw and sledge hammer, to the least damaged parts of the companies integrity and reputation... right?

I highly doubt that.

I did - I checked the first page of results and nothing current leapt out at me - a bunch of people asking about it for the Playstation release (and I use the PC), so I figured I'd ask the question generally, and I'm not sure I follow - Frontier have offered the Cobra Mk IV on two separate occasions now I think ? As a pre-order before the game originally launched, and with the pre-purchase of Horizons, so it would seem to have formed part of their strategy in the past - why not build it in for a third time in the future ?

Ultimately it's just a suggestion, and whilst I would love it, I appreciate I may be in the distinct minority =]

The MK4 was an exclusive release, never to be released again, if you release it again it's not exclusive! People keep accusing FDEV of lying, then demand FDEV release an item they promised was an exculsive release, what then, everyone accuses them of lying again? As for the LEP, I'd buy one right now! Although I would have preferred it before the Odyssey release.

The Cobra Mk IV (C4) was part of a legal contract, not a promise, but a contract. The exclusivity of the C4 is part of Frontier's legal existence, meaning that it MUST influence all future contracts that Frontier forges. Since the content (Horizons) that the contract was founded on is still extant as part of the game, the contract is still extant.

If the content were completely removed from game, the contract could (possibly) be invalidated. Otherwise, whether Frontier wants to release the C4 or not, it risks class action lawsuits in any country that has players with rights to the C4.

It is not a matter of honor or reputation, it is a matter of legal obligation.

CMDR Sinister, As a falling down Cobra MkIII fanboi, I do like the idea of having access to another version of the Cobra. Still, I appreciate that the Cobra MkIV is exclusive to early backers. And I respect FDEV for keeping their promise to early backers. Keeping their word is the right thing to do. Fortunately, Elite lore has introduced us to other Cobra variants, including several intriguing Cobra MkIII variants, not promised as exclusive to early backers of ED.

There's the Cowell & MgRath Cobra MkIII, built in the Lave Cowell & MgRath shipyard, like the "Bella Principessa" from "Elite: Reclamation," by CMDR Drew Wagar. And then there's the early Faulcon DeLacy Cobra MkIII, like John Jameson had, "JJ-386," on HIP 12099. Perhaps FDEV would consider offering the one or the other to console folks pre-ordering Odyssey and PC players with Odyssey, prior to the console release date? o7

I could have sworn blind that the Cobra Mk IV was offered to the player base twice - once before initial launch, and once before Horizons, and that seems to be backed up by this article Frontier themselves have posted :- https://customersupport.frontier.co...0013565680-Can-I-get-the-Cobra-MK-IV-Windows-, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed - they even intimate that we should keep paying attention to their social media for Cobra Mk IV updates, so ... fingers crossed ! =]

EDIT: Just realised their post says PS4 players should keep their eyes on social media ... sigh

And to be clear, I'm not demanding Frontier do anything - this is just a "wouldn't it be really, really cool if ..." thread =]

I completely agree with you re: the LEP - I'd be doing it more as a nod to thank them for making a game that I think is really, really cool, plus it'd be nice to know you had any future expansion packs (walking around the interior of your ships perhaps ?) in the bag without having to worry about being time-barred for any specific content =]

Well said Cmdr o7 =] I just want a Cobra Mk IV because it's the only official ship I don't (and can't) get in my line-up, so it grates against my Taurean sense of right and wrong LOL. I don't know how I missed all the pre-order messages - I didn't even know Horizons was a thing until it was long-bundled with the base game, so ... yeah I've been massively out of the loop, which is the reason I don't have it (or I'd have backed the plop outta the game in its pre-release stage) =]

Is it though ? I'm not disputing your legal assessment, but to give a couple of examples in mitigation and/or consideration, people pre-purchased Horizons, but that then later became offered to new purchasers of the Elite Dangerous base game for free - that's how my friends have been able to play - I've bought them gift copies of the ED base game, and they get Horizons with it, so if Frontier were overly concerned about class action law suits then that decision could be seen as a little questionable ? As in ... I pre-paid for something that you're now giving away for free ?

Secondly, https://customersupport.frontier.co...0013565680-Can-I-get-the-Cobra-MK-IV-Windows- this post on the Frontier web-site (as I was just saying to varonica) seems to suggest that they haven't ruled-out the possibility of bringing it back, and as I say I'm almost sure they have actually done so twice already - once as an Elite Dangerous pre-order item; once as a Horizons pre-order item; so I'm not sure why they didn't do the same with Odyssey if that's the case, but even their own article suggests paying attention to their social media for further posts on the subject, so I'm just going to keep everything crossed in case they do =]

EDIT: Just realised their post says PS4 players should keep their eyes on social media ... sigh

Thanks for the discussion Chrystoph o7
