Give the python an SLF?

Let's make the python great again.

With that said, all ships should have some form of external fighter. And the scale should go from two SLF'S for large ships, one SLF for medium ships, and a drone fighter for small ships.

Would rather have a teeny bump in jump range to be honest.

I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion. The python isn't that great (hides).
If you play the BGS, there really isn't a reason to fly any other ship - it does the full spectrum of influential activities in the game easily well enough to justify that statement:

  • Combat: 3x class 3 + 2x class 2 hardpoints - enough to take on any NPC ship.
  • Cargo: >250t - enough to stack multiple cargo missions, which can be combined with data missions, while still having an SRV bay. With the new choices for mission rewards in 3.0, it's the best ship for BGS-actions/hr in the game by far.
It's also got good shields and good speed for a ship its size, especially when engineered.

All other ships come with compromises, be that cargo limitations or defensive and offensive capabilities - there is no other mission-oriented medium pad ship that I'd ever take into a CZ but the Python.

The Python is still totally OP. Just don't tell anyone else!

its funny.
again
FDEV buffs a ship for the reason that its underused and cannot compete with other ships in its own dedicated role.
right after that, the topics start to pop up, that the ship, that was the whole reason for said buff, needs a buff too.

if you want a fighterbay, you got plenty of choices. fly gunship, t9, t10, beluga. or just wait for the Krait (which will probably be something like a vulture with a a fighterbay and no rank lock)
all those ships come with a drawback.
the python currently is a multipurpose ship that still has not a SINGLE counterpart when it comes to cargo, range, firepower and ability to land on outposts. the only thing it can't do, is launching fighters and mounting C4 weapons

and the request is stupid enough, when you think that PHYSICAL changes to the model are required,
so you are not asking for a change of THAT ship, you are asking for a NEW ship.

Ah well I can't see the Python as a "mini Anaconda". The shield of the Python is tiny and the cargo hold not the biggest. Fighting in the Python is hard because it turns so slow. It fires best forward so turrets are no option. The missing fighter bay finally limits the Python mostly to solo play.

The Python is already a little crazy in how well it can do just about anything in the game barring long range exploration. It is a strong ship for trade, combat, it can land at a medium pad, can easily be outfitted to do anything really, and people want to buff it with a fighter bay... If anything, the Python should have some sort of major drawback, as currently it is a little OP for the price...

No, it would be like giving the Corvette two extra small pulse turrets. Do you really think SLF's make ships OP?
No, a SLF is like giving a Corvette two large turrets that have fixed weapon damage.

SLFs are absolutely lethal when piloted by a dangerous or above ranked NPC or another player. I regularly send my SLF after smaller ships and it rips them apart, I’ve even watched it fight an elite Clipper with zero hull damage taken. I also join multicrew sessions or switch to the SLF and can 1v1 any ship when the SLF has fixed weapons, unless the other ship has turrets.

If the Python must be buffed in some way, which it doesn’t, I’d suggest giving it another utility slot or slightly increasing its base shield strength.

You would need to re-roll the model of the python. It would loose it's looks as you as a SLF bay wouldn't fit in it as it is. So I would say no.

And a FSD for the SRV.

I was thinking the other day running around for planet mats, and I sure it's been brought up before, but why not some light, basic engineering for srvs.

Like one to make weapons better (idk if needed really)

Or better shields.

Or better handling (if it's even possible to do)

Or slightly better hull strength or better fuel economy.

I think those last two would be nice and not really change it too much. Be nice to be able to run around longer with one Srv without have to repair or refuel it so much.

Or maybe I'm the only one who does long planetary excursions in them!

What would you be prepared to give up in exchange?

This question doesn't get asked nearly often enough. :)

For some reason, I had it in my head that the Chieftain was going to have an SLF bay. Probably due to all the talk about what the various hatches were in pre-release pictures etc.

When it was released, I was kind of disappointed that it won't fit an SLF cos I was looking forward to building one for my NPC to fly while I piloted the SLF.
After testing out the Chieftain, though, it's apparent that it, too, would have been way overpowered if it had an SLF.

I think you got it mixed up with the Krait, which appears to have an SLF bay. (What the Krait ends up being, balance wise, is still of course entirely up in the air).

As much as I would like the idea, I still will say no.

After flying an Anaconda now for some time, I switched back to my Python for the ranking missions.
And I like the Python much nore now, it feels really nimble ans light compared to the big ship.
I see no real need for a fighter you are nimble enough to fight with smaller NPC ships and fast enough to outrun anything that outguns you (Had to run from 3 deadly Anacondas last weekend).

Like some mentioned on the big ships the fighter is there to keep enemies occupied while you either take out their wingmates, or get to swing your huge ship around to fire on them.

Hell yeah! SLF, then 4 more utilites, 2 sizes up on the FSD, 2 c2s on bottom, and 4 c1s split top and bottom. Oh, and it can launch sidewinders which can also launch sidewinders... WHICH THEN EXPLODE INTO MORE SIDEWINDERS WHICH THEN ALSO EXPLODE!!!!! (Sry Mister Torgue got out of the basement again.)

Seriously, just no. Another 42 dps from a SLF and there would be no need to fly anything else. If they take away all my ships and only let me keep one, then sure. I'll keep my python and request a SLF. Since that isn't going to happen, take solace in the fact that the python is still, without fail, the most versatile ship in the game. Proof? It is the only ship in the game that has exclusive missions.

Hyperbole and miss-direction. Well done. The ship is big enough for an SLF and should have one. Simple. You still give up something to carry the fighter bay you know, not asking for additional module space.

i reiterate NO. there is nothing wrong with the python. best all round ship there is.

There is something wrong, no fighter bay on a ship big enough for one. If you don't want to equip a fighter don't. Simple.
