Give us our paintjobs in the store back

Seriously?? Why did you take them from us.

Look I get wanting to increase prices when you updated the store and whatever, that didn't bother me. What bothered me was suddenly losing like 2/3rds of the more 'basic' paintjobs overnight. We're all passionate ship builders in this game, and a lot of us like the grounded realisim in Elite over other more, cartoony, games in the same genre, and typically, we also like the more grounded paintjobs to match. I love building themed ships, and buy a custom paintjob for nearly every single one of my fleet of 51 (and growing), and a matching SRV job to match if it carries one. Imagine my dismay when suddenly all I'm left with is a bunch of really overdone, overly shinny, overly cartoony """premium"" skins and none of the wonderful military/vibrant paintjobs I loved so much

I can't bring myself to build ships anymore since I know that the paintjob I want for it is arbitrarily not in the store anymore. Where is my Crimson Python?? Where is my Orange Imp Eagle??

I don't want flashly silly liveries. I want grounded simple skins

I don't care if you charge me the same, or even more than the premium skins like Midnight Black or whatever... but just let me give you money... PLEASE

I'm never going to buy these flashy skins, and had I known all these would disappear I would've gone on a spending spree

My favorite thing to do in Elite is build ships and I feel you've taken that from me since I can't customise them as much as I could before

Yes I'm ranting but why did you take our paintjobs away - please bring them back so I can buy them :(

OK, Captain Obvious here ....

Did you buy them?

If yes and they are missing, then fair enough, raise a ticket with support.

If no, then all you've lost is the ability to purchase them. Some of those paintjobs have been on sale for TEN YEARS. Frontier have never promised that certain paintjobs would be on sale forever. Yes yes, I understand, it's a digital product and it makes no logical business sense to take it off sale, but it's Frontier's products and as much as I will also bang the drum that they should be available to buy, if Frontier want to stop selling them, that's their choice. Yes, Frontier are potentially losing money, but it's their choice.

I'm mostly miffed the cheap single color paint jobs are gone for good (for the new ships). Thats annoying, the paints I saw start at 6000 ARX, so I won't customize my new ships.

Not really the point is it? Some people buy (or are gifted) secondary accounts, others are new players and in both cases there are few low-cost repaints*, (virtually) no fleet-wide paint schemes any more and certain desirable things like the flag repaints have just been dropped. Furthermore, even having played for many years, someone might buy a ship they have never tried before so now have a paucity of repaints available for it.

* Remember, FDEV made the wondrous decision that the cheapest repaint is now 1600 arxes (1200 if in a "sale) compared to 380-620 depending on model.

The fact that I lost the ability to purchase the skins I wanted, and KNEW were once available is what annoys me greatly

I have a Commander that only flies ships with the Tactical Crimson livery, but it was taken away from some ships, but the DBX still has it, like why what's the point there??

All my PVP ships are Vibrant Purple, but they're missing now from most ships. I match skins with my SRV, but those are all also gone

If "Frontier want to stop selling them, that's their choice", sure, but its a stoooopid decision

Are you sure? I looked just now and they are there for all ships I randomly checked (AspX, Cobra MkIII, DBX, DSB, FDL, Python, Mamba, FAS, Dolphin, Corvette, Krait MkII) in fact with a modest price reduction.

Okay, so the purple was a bad example (I was referring to it missing on the newer ships), but some or all of the tactical colours and the other vibrant liveries are missing from most ships, or for some reason, like orange (but there are many more), are avilable on some ships, but not others

There are different classes of these things, which require different amounts of effort to create. There are the paintjobs with a pattern, those have to be crafted individually for each bodyshape. Then there are paintjobs of "merely" paint, i.e. just a few parameters from colour to reflection which are applied to the entire exterior of a body with no need to make changes for each shape. Notice how lazy design has become lately. Not with the shapes, the new ship designs are nice and thoroughly thought out. But with that, the colouring has become something like an afterthought, as it seems. Example Mandalay: there is just two* patterned and one unpatterned variants, in between them it's just copy&paste with different accents. One patterned red is given to the Stellar version and not sold separately. That's it.

The removal of so many designs that obviously were much more work to create (e.g. the Noble series) and the stubborn silence vis-a-vis the amount of disagreement around here is liable for giving rise to theories about likely motivations rooted in psychology. Like a thought that occurred to me the other day, that maybe they removed all the complicated stuff from public eye to make the striking difference between old and new designs invisible to preempt people from asking for them to be adapted to more ships, a request which is quite frequently made.

Edit for correction: not one, two patterns were designed for Mandalay. It doesn't invalidate the point.
