Give us the sniffers: A Defense of the Coatis as a DLC Animal

It should be no surprise based on my username that I love coatis. There's a small group at my local zoo, I've seen them in a zoo/theme park overseas, and even witnessed a large group in the wild. So, here's a short thread extolling the virtues of the coati (specifically focusing on Nasua narica, the white-nosed coati, since it's my personal preferred species).

Regional Representation:
Found from Arizona and Texas all the way down to Northern Colombia, the White-Nosed coati represents both Central and North America, two regions which are (in my opinion and that of many others) woefully underrepresented. Furthermore, with range in montane woodlands, tropical rainforests, and even the Sonoran desert, it could represent the Tropical, Desert, and perhaps even Temperate biome; the second of these especially would be a wonderful addition because the Southwest of the U.S. is currently only represented with the Prairie Dog, Cougar, Pronghorn, and some exhibits; Central America as well is represented only by the Tapir, Jaguar, and Capuchin (plus exhibits) as it stands.

Taxonomic Representation and Uniqueness:
The coati would add the game's first procyonid, a group which is currently unrepresented. Furthermore, it's a unique animal that looks totally unlike anything else in the game, from its pig-like snout to its long tail, held high above it when it walks. Plus, it would be able to have large bands (4-20 individuals, with all females) as well as solitary males, making it a unique social carnivore.

Realism:
While I love some of the oddball picks in this game and on wishlists, I think the coati is appropriately unique without being unheard of in captivity; the white-nosed species is kept in around 25 European zoos and the south american species in many more. It is a great starter animal to include, which wouldn't be too expensive or needy. Plus, as semi-arboreal foragers, they would well-utilize climbing and foraging enrichment, and could honestly be added without any new enrichment items or mechanics (although I'd love to see some sort of mammal-appropriate puzzle feeder utilized!)

They're Cute and I Like Them:
See section header.

Edit: just remembered, they’d also have lots of interspecies enrichment options, as mentioned below.

Coati as a zoo animals are sooooooo iconic and different from all the other small predators that I hope that one way or another they would be included in one of the next DLC’s. No zoo is complete without them 🥰

That's certainly true, lol. I don't think anyone dislikes them, but I think they're (to an extent) overlooked and I think that's a shame... also, I wanted an excuse to talk about coatis.
The coati is place 20 in meta wishlist. So I would not call it overlooked compared to some other species. But yes, I would have nothing against a coati in the game

Honestly I think they'd be coded as a prey species if they get added to PZ. They've done this for grey seals, dwarf caimans, and giant otters - animals far more carnivorous than coatis.

Probably. I think nutrit probably just means that they're carnivorans/omnivorous, not that they'd be predatory in-game and in terms of enrichment.

I would definitely be happy to see Coatis in the game. Even if they've not made my meta wist submissions, they're squarely in my own top 30.

I'm for it, not just because I like them but because PZ's biggest gaps are in these sorts of animals. Frontier has implemented almost every plausible big-ticket animal (the only one left is arguably the leopard) but has limited representation of the common zoo animals that are ubiquitous to both world-class institutions and smaller, cheaper ones; monkeys, wading/ground birds, and small to medium-sized mammals like coatis, porcupines, and hyraxes.

Really, the otters? They're actually apex predators in their ecosystem; even jaguars and anacondas tend to not bother with them.

Absolutely! I loved this trend in the recent packs (Penguin, Meerkat, Prairie Dog, Foxes, Badger) and would love to see more small animals, especially since my local zoo only has a few of the more famous zoo animals (red and giant pandas, asian elephants, lions, tigers, gorillas, cheetahs, orangutans) and lots of overlooked animals, especially small animals, that PZ is lacking (tamarins, howlers, coatis, chinchillas, przewalski's horses, red river hogs, maned wolves, porcupines, ducks, allen's swamp monkey, etc). Though I wouldn't want it if we're only getting four more packs, a small mammals or primates animal pack would greatly help the game's biodiversity in this regard.

One of the biggest pro’s of coati and very beneficial for the game itself would be the fact that in the real zoo’s they can be kept with plethora of other interesting animals in mixed exhibits. Here are some examples:
Spectacled bears
Small monkeys like capuchins
Peccary
Sloths
Howler monkeys
Tapirs

As it should be. Bush dogs are their natural predators.
I’ve read about that Paris Zoological Park and Twycross zoo held Bush dogs and coatis together but at Twycross it ended up in eating one of the coatis by the Bush dogs so maybe it’s somehow possible to be honest a very risky idea.

One of my local zoos has Coatis with Raccoons, so I'm hoping to get both in the game at some point :)
