Globular Clusters and Messier objects.

As something of an amateur astronomer myself, I would be interested to know if they plan on including some of the messier catalogue objects in the Elite galaxy? Globular clusters and the beautiful Double Cluster, how about the Orion Nebula and the Crab nebula? Anyone know?

Obviously some are other galaxies so we wouldnt be able to travel to them - but maybe even representing them in the sky would be an option?

Totally agree, but I just thought these objects would add a higher level of nerdism to the proceedings

When I got access to the galaxy map, the first thing I did was search for Alcyone. It is in, along with the rest of the Pleiades. The cluster is even labelled on the map.

So I am sure at least the major points of interest are in.

I suspect that DB 's plan is to be as realistic as possible. Limits of time money and ability are probably the main limiting factors.

Give it time though and those are likely to disappear.

The problem with most globular clusters is that given the maximum hyperdrive range of ships and the vast distances between GCs its unlikely they'll be anything more than nebulous skybox objects.

However, there are stellar streams from tidally disrupted dwarf galaxies and globular clusters, which might offer pathways to vantage points well above the galactic disk. See also the Scientific American article The Ghosts of Galaxies Past.

These are all well removed from the 100,000 systems in human space, but perhaps could be added for intrepid explorers. If the star system procedural generation star density and ages in defined volumes (which should be required to model arms and the core), then all that may be necessary is definition of additional low density looping volumes.
