god like Anacoda

i just met an Anaconda online tonight while participating in the hehe community goal... it did not go well.. this things shields just would not register any kind of hit even though there were 4 or 5 ships all firing at once at it!! it just sat there absorbing every thing  which was a tad annoying as i have Multi cannons and 4A beam lasers engineered to the max!:O and you would think that would at least do some thing to the shields?? and then i get hit by a " electric shock " type attack...(some one please explain what that was please)? and that was it for my ship [woah] .....what kind of engineering gives that kind of power ?? gotta get me some of that!!

How exactly are your weapons engineered?

If your multis aren't incindiary and you haven't loaded up with butt tons of thermal damage to break through shields, chances are you won't be dropping his shields. He's probably sitting at 60/60/60 and 4K raw shield, which is more like 6.5K shields.

Im assuming you were probably hearing the "impulse attack" lady scream at you too- which means this joker was probably lighting you up with heat cannons. No real way to fight back on that one. It's an exploit.

or it could have been shock mines? Not sure what else causes "electric attack" warnings.

That's engineers for ya. The gap between engineered ships and non or even partly engineered ships is really, really stupid. I've sat and tanked an entire instance of players and cops in my cutter once, really dumb, kinda broken honestly.

Impulse attack is usually rail guns, if it was heat she'd say "thermal attack gaining heat".

Agreed. Remove engineer mods, make fighting great again.

Just get thermal weapons. and given time everyone will bow to you.

yeah my multi cannons are grade 5 engineered with incendiary rounds (devastating...but escapable)/ my 4a beam lasers can fire continuously for around 20 seconds with 4 pips to weapons, and i have an overcharged power plant which reduces all my functions down to 68% out of 100% so theres no real power issues.. but this things shields were having none of it! lol it just soaked up everything being fired at it  then came this ... kind of blue lightning/electric shock attack, the likes of which ive never seen before... i don't recall hearing any warning like "thermal heat or etc etc ... and then Pooof... my ship exploded leaving me staring at the 31 mill rebuy screen wondering what just happened:S i've seen some engineered beauties before but this was some thing else..

I think I met him as well, a couple of weeks ago at another CG. Twas a thing of beauty I must admit,:) we were 2 Annies up against him, both with engineered weapons, shields, pp and sb's, didn't matter, his shields registered nothing:eek: I think he was using frag cannons, double shot with corrosive, 3 salvoes and my shields were history, the hull lasted a little longer, but the outcome was inevitable, my wingmate didn't do any better.

No complaints, it really was amazing to see that ship soak up everything thrown at it, I am now a man on an engineering mission :D

Incendiary is not strictly necessary, and hasn't been since it was hit by the overall DPS nerf, which narrowed its role down from "DPS gaining effect with both damage types" to "damage type change" effect only.

Most MCs on my PvP builds use auto loader at present.

That "joker" would have had rail guns equipped - stop stirring that which needs stirring not!

"Impulse attack" is a message generated by any weapon that physically moves your ship, and 1% of the time iwll be from anything but a railgun...and less than 1% of the time will actually move your ship enough to make a difference of any kind ever.

Though OP never actually specified the enemy as a CMDR, if it was another player the only speculation I can make is that various experimental effects on MCs create a visual crackling effect that could be offputting to a newer player.

... this would be a better representation of what i saw.... "a visual crackling effect" and it was blue :)

With weapon detailing who knows. Could have had a blue weapon pack.

Wonder if a coalition of players could take the guy out. I'm more curious to know if he'd take a beating/run legit or log. Gotta wonder about someone who hides behind impenetrable shields. Certainly has an aversion to losing.

The "visual crackling" sounds like multi-cannons to me. Probably emissive. That stuff gums up your view pretty darn well, and emissive is a standard effect to have with a multi-cannon loadout. Regarding the shields, heavily engineered with four pips to systems are pretty tough to crack. Bring plasma. ;)

A wolf pack, properly kitted and with the right ships, could take someone like this down. Wouldn't be easy, of course, but could be done.

imperials hammers and 4K megajoules shields do that ya... life's hard! Wanna a hug?

 no hug required CMDR lol i'm no stranger to the re-buy screen  just inspired by what would obviously be a truck load of hours poured into the game to achieve engineering modifications this guy /gal was rocking:)

interesting .... i wonder if any one else has attempted it:rolleyes: all though... there were 5 or 6 of us last night trying and failing... and some of the other ships were also rocking some pretty fierce weaponry ...does make you wonder though...

What sorcery is this? What is 60/60/60? And how can shields get engineered so high? Legitimate question, as I'd like to learn.

Engineering, friend.

60/60/60 refers to resistances. You are told that shields are weak to thermal and resistant to kinetic, but most CMDRs that PvP will use a thermal resistant shield mod and resistance boosters, leading to equal(ish) shield resistances of high value - usually around 60% resistances to all damage types. This is why PAs were given a small amount of proportional damage, which ignores resistances.

As for the shield cap, again engineering. Most builds with several boosters will employ a few resistance boosters and a few heavy duty boosters, the latter allowing a single booster to have anything up to several times the shield boosting effect it would have unmodified.

I'm still hoping for nerfs to booster stacking. I don't PvP hardly ever, but it seems to me it would be a lot more exciting knowing you're not invulnerable. Then again, when I was younger you didn't get a trophy just for showing up, and there was in fact a losing side.

My main concern is that any straightforward nerf to booster stacking is going to hurt smaller ships, too. The big 3 need to be pushed away from a sole reliance on mega resistances, heavy duty boosters and SCBs (and yes this includes PvE, where it's even more a problem)...but I don't think smaller ships should be prevented from building on already meagre shields, which would force them to effectively have hybrid or hull focused health.
