Going afk on pads question.

It's mostly noticeable on orbital platforms (where griefers have use it to advantage)

Does anyone remember when orbital platforms were 1st announced? The story was they would be risky with your ship at risk, encouraging you to be quick. The idea was be too slow and get shot off it.

Now given the way it has panned out this may end in disaster in open but....

I do wonder why after a set time either docking is revoked and you are gives a small bounty for loitering and then kicked off OR you get taken into the hold and removed from the instance.

Swap to private.. land sell ...take off... go back to open..
Greifer can suck it.

Sure but I know some do not like to mode switch and I was just thinking back to when platforms 1st went into the game we were told they would operate differently than they do.

Had this happen to me a couple of weeks ago.

I was trying to unlock one of the engineers and it required me to run missions from an orbital platform all day.
Only problem was, some twonk had parked his Python in to platform's one medium hangar and then, apparently, gone off to school for the day or something.

Open play is my default mode and the game insisted on putting me back in the same instance with the twonk every bloody time.
I was going to block him, just to get him out of my instance, but I've got no idea how to unblock people again so I just put up with swapping to Solo mode prior to landing and then going back into open again, all bloody day.

If the station receives a docking request with no pads available it should have some kind of queue system AND it should send a ship that has been docked for over 20-30 seconds to the Hangar. Hangars honestly should be able to fit more ships per pad, otherwise that transition really makes no sense to me, especially since you can have over 20 ships waiting for you at the station.

It doesn't make any difference if they're on the pad, itself, or in the hangar.
The pad is still unavailable because if another CMDR lands on it, they might want to make use of the hangar.

Common courtesy should dictate that if you're going to land for long periods, especially on a platform in a medium ship, you log out.

I tried ramming a Python hogging the pad once.

It didn't work. Lol

What might discourage pad hogging is a launching fee, based on how long you've been docked and online (offline doesn't count).

Anything up to 10 minutes is free.
After that, every minute, the fee doubles. 10,000cr to start with, then 1 minute later 20,000cr, then 40,000cr, then 80,000cr... And so on.

It'd get mighty expensive pretty quickly. Lol

But going in the hangar should de-instance you, and free up the pad, leaving you with a fine.

That's a terrific idea, right there. [up]

Or there could be more hangars per one pad, would be nice to see other players/npc going up/down past you on lift on background while you do your business at the station.

That's probably not going to be viable at platforms, where the modules aren't big enough for more than one ship - and it's platforms where this is the biggest problem.

Just slap other one under/next to it. Medium pad on platforms never have something on other side of it, so there is room, just slap two or three medium pad assets together after the one we now have on platform. There is nothing stopping them doing this as all other parts of the stations/platforms apart for the pads/hangars are just assets/hit boxes and have nothing to do with the gameplay or functionality of station.
