Going against your own word - "infiltrators" please note

I think trying to shoehorn the behavior of real people into convenient categories is uncertain enough with unlimited access to that person. When the only access you have is how they chose to portray a fantasy character in a video game, it's unthinkable.

Practically speaking, it's also irrelevant. Maybe it will make some players feel better if they think those they are blaming are somehow defective, inferior, or unable to help themselves, but it's not going to change what's happening in game.

You can conclude they are complete Richards though.

Agree totally with the well written OP.
But this type of attempt at salt generation is not new, i hark back to playing CS w/FF on, and those one or two idiots that would invariably come in and h-shoot their team during outfitting.

Thousand yard stare, twitches a bit.

Twitching is allowed... Knew chap in training that could not march.. He could not swing his opposite arm in the same direction as the opposite leg. Try it.. Move your left arm forward with your leg leg.. That's how he marched, until he got shown the gate :D

Might it be that given how much work i have on a daily baisis, stress of deadlines and often 12 hour days i just wanna switch off and act like an out of character madman on a video game safe im the knowlege that as it has no link to real life it is harmless.

To me the people who get enraged about rule abiding ingame interactions and start bringing irl into it are the unballanced and unhealthy ones. Chill out guys and realise that your feelings being ouchied do not equate to other players being irl bad

I helped tip over a few 'Monkey mobile' Landrovers to ensure our escape after you lot were called during Saturday night fisticuffs at the Walkerville hotel in Catterick for a couple of years...still ended up as a WO1 with a shiny service record. Thankfully back then, I could run like a rat heading up a drainpipe and hurdle fences like a grand National horse :D

I knew a lad who was terrified of firearms, he used to shake like a leaf even with unloaded ones or drill rounds. Washed out as he couldn't pass on the range, I got punishment press ups as the plonker put his rounds into my target through sheer nerves as they thought I'd not listened to the fire orders. Till they got to his untouched target and counted what was left in my mag.

My favourite trick was to sit in the butts and poke a 2" grouping with a pencil for those who couldn't shoot themselves in the asp if they had the rifle in their back pocket...Our hand picked Bisley shooting team always seemed to lose for some reason ;)

That is a lot of words to say:"if you shoot atvsomeone in a game when you promised not to, you can never ever thrust them with anything."

To which, as a trained clinical neuropsychologist with experience with patients with sociopathy, my expert response would be: lol.

To you games may be 'sacrosanct'. Let me assure you: to the average human that is a bizarre notion.

Can we close the thread now?

hellmode, was going to be a locked mode where player accounts were put that had no influence on BGS or anything. The game would still have been playable but in theory all of the players in it would have been like minded so they could all play together whilst not affecting anyone else.

Then everyone exploited so... Fdev couldn't move everyone !

I remember this mode being talked about, back when players where letting other players kill them for the billions in bounty claims.

Are you suggesting that people control their character, rather than their character controls them?

What if their character is a rule breaker? are you suggesting they play as a non-rule breaker?

PS the operative word here is PLAY. It's not RL, it's escapism.
Someone who’s motivation is to ruin a game for someone else isn’t playing Elite. They are thinking outside the game. The part of most people that doesn’t feel the desire to upset or hurt another persons feelings is missing or broken in them. Just the way things go..

But you can't do that in the first place really.
That's subjective.

my motivation is to have fun, shoot things and chill out.
if the other person lacks the coping mechanisms and perspectives of an adjusted adult to handle rule abiding interactions within a video game then i pity them.
only the immature and the childish are willing to invest so emotional energy much into a space game that they feel personally attacked when someone decides to initiate emergent content.

the reason i wouldent go to PG and gank is not because i think its wrong, but because i think that PG is a great quarantine for the the crazies and toxic weirdos who go ballistic if someone so much as pooks at their ship funny ingame

It’s amazing how known people can join private groups but I someone who PvPs very little now cant even Join :( maybe it’s because I am honest and tell them I pvp but I just wanna make friends to pve with :(

This is just internet behavior that has always been present in-game, nothing will change how some choose to behave. They likely don't give much thought to someone else's opinion and there are always those that support their justification for acting the way they do.

This is the nature of the game, it's easy to behave any way you choose and really not suffer any consequences. Just try to give the offender some payback via PvP, unless you agree to a meet, good luck in trying to hunt them down.

Making posts about their behavior likely feeds into the notoriety they want and their idea of fun.

Best to ignore them, block, unfriend, move on.
