Newcomer / Intro Going from ED to Odyssey, how to? Help!

I did the tutorial just fine. I loved it enough in fact I did it a few times. I want to move into Odyssey, I have a ship that's docked in one of the newbie areas. How do I actually start Odyssey? I have no idea how to customize my character or anything. I don't want to restart because if I do that I'll lose my money and ship which I don't want to have happen. Any help is appreciated. I really really really want to play Odyssey!

What exactly is that supposed to do? I did that at my station and their were no doors or anything and it didn't let me customize my character at all.
You make your character when you start a new game, horizons too. Yiu can change it in the Holo Me editor, which is in your ship and station. This is also the same as with horizons. If you disembark your ship in a station you need to take the elevator to get to the main concourse.

When in your ship, the role (crotch) panel is the place to customize your characters loadouts and change outfits. Loadouts can be managed at the numerous public kiosks in the concourses of the stations. When you disembark, move to the elevators and travel to the concourses.

In every hangar there is a passageway to the tubolifts that will bring you to the common area. There you can find an access panel and (among other things) customize your character.
Although if you are ONLY after customizing your character, you can do it directly on the ship as well. Right panel, first tab, there is a Holo-Me button.

Thank you for the replies. Now how do I start "as a newbie" the Odyssey part of the game? I assume I have to fly somewhere and land first.

You start the Odyssey part of the game wherever your commander is now, your avatar will be the one you where using in Horizons.
Fly to a station or surface port and dock select Disembark from one of the menus, walk around your ship and then head for the lifts to get to the shops and offices.
Or land on the surface of a planet and either disembark and walk or drive around first in the SRV and get out of that. Your flight suit will work for this but the three specialised suits you can buy in the shops are better.

...

This got me thinking - how the brand new commander starts off? Are they on foot in a station? Do they start as per Horizons in a Sidewinder in Coelho Station?

I have no intention of clear saving either my LEP or my other Quattro account (only ones with Oddy) to find out.

When you first start the game, you automatically go through the introductory mission. Then the game spits you out at a groun base in the middle of nowhere. From there you can do all the leg stuff.
If you want to start flying, you have to visit the dealership and go through a "Pilot training". That's a mission roughly akin to the first two or three tutorial training missions. Take off, ship handling, SC, combat scenario, jump, SC, landing.
After you go through this, you get your Sidey. (Plus other ships you're eligible for like LEP Cobra, Beta Eagle, etc...)

So this is outside the noob-zone?

Honestly, I didn't pay attention. 😅
First thing I did was to take the taxi down into imperial space and I don't remember the name of the system. But I suppose it's a noob zone.

One thing that surprised me though was that after the introduction mission which is offline, the game throws you automatically into Open without telling you. Because when you start a new commander, you don't even see the main menu to choose. Weird choice.

Yes it has done that since the noob zone was introduced - first play you are in open, no screen to choose solo or PG. The choice is there on future loads though.
