Newcomer / Intro Good area to work in from LHS 3447 / Eravate area?

I'm just getting rolling, have traded up to an Adder for multipurpose. I like fighting but I'm not great at it so I use some trades / missions as a backup. Explo isn't that exciting to me - lots of surfing Reddit waiting to get to places. So those are my parameters.

I guess I could just start looking for rares? Or are there some good loops nearby? I'd like to get away from long flights in a system (Dalton makes me want to cry, I'm not playing, I'm web surfing while nothing happens).

My favorite rare loop not too far from you is Zeessze -> Wulpa. They are about 160ly apart from each other which means a boring trip between them but if you just repeat that run over and over again you can build millions of credits in the course of a day of playing. It can also help produce Federal Navy ascension missions as your local and major faction rep increases at Zeessze. If you want to add a little more cargo to the run on the way to Wulpa stop at Altair which is real close to Zeessze before you head back that way.
Safe flying CMDR.

Hello CMDR,

rares trading is always a good idea! I gues you understand outfitting by now, as for this you need to get the best FSD and fuel scoop, while everything else should be as light weight as possible.

However, I wouldn't start rares trading before you are in a Cobra, which offers a bit more cargo space when equipped with shields and fuel scoop. So could carry rares from a few more sources across those min 120 LYs.

Before that, pick a system where your base is below 500 ls from the main star, and do some (smuggling - NOT combat) missions, until you can afford the Cobra. A fully outfitted rares Cobra is around 2.3 Mio, plus 120K for insurance.

Otherwise: just have fun - and don't grind!

Afternoon CMDR

Ive been doing runs between NLTT 44219 and Nuakea (with occasional run to DAGR) - mostly smuggling and killing pirates but there have been a few wars in these two recently. They are close together and have multiple stations close to the star (though DAGR doesn't and is only worth it if a very lucrative mission). I can get about a million per hour in smuggling alone. I rarely see other players to not likely to get ganked.

Happy flying

The only way to get good at something is to do it.

Find a system with multiple resource extraction sites (RES), and move there permanently. This will make the pew pew easier for you to find and will still allow you to take missions and do your other stuff.

Xihe might suit you - it's got RESes close to the station, it's a large Fed high-tech with a good outfitters and has a rare good - Xihe Biomorphic Companions. It might serve as the start of a rares route, although it's got a rather low allocation, if I recall correctly. You'll also see plenty of other players. I think it's on or near the edge of a Powerplay bubble, but I can't confirm if it's exploited or not as I'm not in the game and honestly don't remember (I don't do PP).

Hey Oddible

I just fly where the bulletin board takes me.... Seriously though, I wanted to see Sol so I started doing jobs in federation space to get the permit. From there I thought I'd make it my base but I never stay put- currently in Empire space trying to get Baron rank.

If you don't like Dalton Gateway you'll hate Hutton Orbital, though you should really check it out just once before Thursday this week. You'll earn at least 10k for the CG and you can do it in solo, though all the CMDRs in open are lovely and you'll have a blast (no weapons...)

Not sure about trading, it's not my thing until I can afford a T7, then I'll be back on the forum asking for advice myself!

Having recently made the jump from an exploring Adder that could defend itself pretty well to the Cobra, A-rated components are wonderful and all, but even cheap C-rated ones will give you an overall setup that compares well to my old A-rated Adder. I made the jump with about 1.5M in the bank, and wish I'd done it earlier. The larger hold and some rares trading has me up to a A/B-class Cobra now, and boy does it feel a lot more nimble than the Adder ever did.

Probably my favourite moment in the game right now is the mad scramble out of a station where I'm carrying hot goods; from take off to enabling the jump drive is a few seconds with four pips to thrusters.

Agreed. I'm the kinda player that spends right down to my insurance number every change I get - so I rarely have any disposable income, it immediately goes into my ship. So I did the same thing, had the Adder for the blink of an eye (doesn't take many smuggling runs to get to the 400K for a cobra) and switched immediately - doubt I'll be looking back. At this point I haven't evaluated if there is any reason to run the Adder over the Cobra for anything - maybe exploration? Given the size it might be possible to get a longer range in the adder?
