Good ole Rock bashing

Cmdrs,

Just getting back into the game, and find myself wanting to get some RAW mats to offer up some to those damn greedy engineers. Lots changed since i last had to trawl a planet's surface, and what has happened to good old Rock Squishing, Now it seems to be all spouting steam baths & micro volcanoes with growing warts on DURR!

So i go to EDDB, (God Bless EDDB & Inara), put in the Raw(s) i want to find, it sends me to a planet with % of Raws i am after, I arrive, Land, get the buggy out and Blimey wave signals everywhere, I have hit the jackpot.
Hmmmm, signal sounds are different, but i follow a double wave signal close to the bottom of the scanner window what i assume was/is a Metallic Meteor, Hang on the sound is different and i arrive to find a Steam cleaning station for buggies, and they are all around.

Yes i find some Warts on these spouting spouts and get some Raw's, but not very many.........an hour i spend trying to find a rock to shoot at and Nothing.

WTFlip has happened?? Can i not just shoot rocks anymore? The warts i do shoot at produce Raw's but not as advertised on the box.

1. So what has happened to the Wave sounds?
2. Can i Shoot rocks anywhere? if so do have to look for something different in EDDB/Inara
3. Is there a EJits guide to this new Raw Mat hunting?
4. What do the new sounds mean

Thank you Cmdrs

The wave scanner hasn't changed at all as far as I know. All planets have rocks and meteorites scattered around, but if you are on a planet with active volcanism you might struggle to find anything other than the volcanic sites due to their abundance.

Your old method of hunting raw mats by shooting rocks on planets hasn't changed one bit. You just went to a volcanic planet, which have changed to have a more abundant distribution of volcanic activity rather than dedicated "sites" like in Horizons.

Gottcha, so how do i tell if a Planet is Volcanic, before i get to planet to scan? Can't find that option in EDDB. Thanks for the tip though.

Best method is to mine the low level stuff from rings
For the rest do the old trade out G5 shuffle:

RAW in EDO

Farming Crystalline Shards

Mine for all the low level stuff and trade out all your Grade 5s if you have any.
Fly out to the following places, you will need a minimum of 2 SRVs for a full run.
There may be fleet carriers in the system that will let you rearm/repair but don’t count on it (you can of course Synth your SRV but kinda defeats the objective of farming)
Scan each planet (you will need a DSS fitted) and look for Crystalline Shard patches, they are normally on hilly, mountain areas if you’re not familiar with the way the new EDO filter works.

Search for a large group of Shards (easier to see with Night Vision on) this will get all you need with only maybe 1 relog.

HIP 36601 - C 1 a - Polonium

HIP 36601 - C 1 d - Ruthenium

HIP 36601 - C 3 b - Tellurium

HIP 36601 - C 5 a - Technetium

HIP 36601 - C 4 A - Selenium - (Not crystal shards)

Actually, better using LHS 417 9 E A in the bubble - look for Crystalline Fragments

Outotz LS-K d8-3 - B 7 b - Ruthenium

Outotz LS-K d8-3 - B 5 a - Yttrium

Outotz LS-K d8-3 - B 5 c - Antimony

Once your full of Grade 5s go back (yes a long trek) and trade out again.
In future when you’re all stocked up you can trade everything so that you only need to farm maybe 2 G5s in which case HIP 36601 - C 1 a – Polonium and HIP 36601 - C 3 b – Tellurium are by far the easiest.

Pro’s
Will take only a couple of hours to fill all G5’s

Con’s
1600LY from Sol
Most planets are 150K Ls from jump in
Closest material trader – HAHAHA

Advice from someone who does this a lot

Take a fleet carrier!!

Nice tip man, but absolutely nowhere near enough dosh in the bank for a Fleet Carriers Toilet, let alone a whole carrier. Just wiped my Cmdr Account so just starting up again.
Any one going that way??

To be honest since i wrote that guide i nearly always fly out solo now in a 1 SRV DBX, there are plenty of FCs in the system to re-arm at.
Bit of a trek i know but i actually found a few unmapped systems on the way which was a huge shock this far in.

Cmdrs,

3. Is there a EJits guide to this new Raw Mat hunting?

Thank you Cmdrs

The new way to get raw materials is to earn these from Braintrees.

There is a huge advantage here: You can spot exactly the raw material you need
using the mineral info of the planet/moon AND the names of the different fruits on the trees.
So you know in advance what element you can get from the tree on a certain planet/moon.

Information about the brain trees:
Different "fruits" are attached to them, which drop raw material and differ as follows:
Cordycep Growth: Material Grade 1 (Iron, etc.)
Polyporous Growth: Material Grade 2 (Arsenic, etc.)
Mussidae Seed Pod: Material Grade 3 (Molybdenum, Cadmium, etc.)
Phloem Excretion: Material Grade 4 (Yttrium, Polonium, etc. or Grade 3 if it's the rarest material on the planet/moon

Which materials they drop depends on what kind of materials the moon/planet owns.
In the system map view the information about the celestial body. You can see what materials can be found on it.
These materials you will get from the fruits.
Relogging does not rebuild the fruit that was shot! It is said that they will renew after 2 weeks.
So drive or fly around in ODYSEEY and look for forests of trees (there's all over the planet).
No need to visit the coordinates I provide below because they grow everywhere on the celestial body.

Here is a video I made on the subject, but in GERMAN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k6MpoyCDzY

The following coordinates refer to ODYSEEY, in HORIZONS you get a mark in nav panel after scanning the celestial body.
No POI marker in ODYSEEY because trees grow in ODYSEEY all over the celestial body.
The following systems are all quite close together in the same region of the galaxy.
===============================================================
System SYNUEFE PP-M D8-7
532 light years or 9 hops (with 65/70 LY range per hop) away from the center of the bubble.
Planet 4 - surface coordinates (7.02/ 157.03) and surroundings.
The braintrees drop Polonium/Selenium/Molybdenum/Cadmium/etc
On the whole plains there are trees with different fruits, driving around is worthwhile.
Moon 5 AA - surface coordinates - none, because:
The braintrees drop Antimony / Niobium / Cadmium / etc. - but only in HORIZONS!
In ODYSEEY, the fruits are just Polyporous Growths, haven't seen any others - visited many places.
Logging back to HORIZONS and back to ODYSSEY to fix the bug (as described in the video above and
here below at the tips) didn't help either.

System SYNUEFE UR-B B33-1
598 light years or 11 hops (with 65/70 LY range per hop) away from the center of the bubble.
Planet 1 - surface coordinates (-29.86/ -73.23 | -29.86 / -76.31) and surroundings.
The braintrees drop Polonium / Mercury / Niobium / etc.
On the whole plains there are trees with different fruits, it's worth driving around there.
See material info for the celestial body.

System FAUST 538
577 light years or 9 hops (with 65/70 LY range per hop) away from the center of the bubble.
Moon 3 A- Surface coordinates (7.77 / 60.63 - sure but also elsewhere on the moon)
There are very large brain tree (brain tree) forests around there.
Plus lots of fumaroles and a few lava fields, all fairly close together.
The fumaroles with crystal cluster/crystal fragment throw Germanium/Tin/Arsenic/Carbon
The braintrees drop Selenium/Arsenic/Germanium/Yttrium/Niobium/Tin/Sulphur/Iron/Phosphorus
Moon 5 A - surface coordinates (-42.69 / -8.54 - certainly also elsewhere on the moon)
Also has braintrees (at the above coordinates 2 larger forests) and fumaroles.
The braintrees throw Cadmium / Ruthenium / Niobium / Chromium / Phosphorus / Zinc / Selenium
See material info for the celestial body.

System HIP 32278
From the center of the bubble 527 light years or 9 hops (with 65/70 LY range per hop) away.
Planet A 4 - surface coordinates (-30.08/ -149.40) and surroundings.
The braintrees drop Vanadium / Manganese / Zinc / etc.
See material info for the celestial body.

System SYNUEFE DP-Z C16-19

595 light years or 11 jumps (with 65/70 LY range per jump) away from the center of the bubble.
Planet C 4 - Surface coordinates (-18.75/ 115.29) and surroundings.
The braintrees drop Molybdenum / Cadmium / Yttrium / etc.
The entire plain there is full of trees with different fruits, it's worth driving around there.
See material info for the celestial body.

System SYNUEFE NU-M D8-37
524 light years or 9 hops (at 65/70 LY range per hop) from the center of the bubble.
Planet A 1 - surface coordinates (63.10/ 117.09) and surroundings.
The Braintrees drop Tellurium / Mercury / Tungsten / Arsenic/ etc.
Planet A 7 A - surface coordinates (see for yourself, especially in plains).
The Braintrees drop Tin / Ruthenium / Zirconium / Molybdenum/ etc.
Planet A 7 B - surface coordinates (see for yourself, especially in plains).
The braintrees drop Yttrium / Selenium / Molybdenum /Tin /etc
There are trees with different fruits all over the plains, so driving around is worthwhile.
See material info for the celestial body.

Four more tips:
Logging to HORIZONS in the ship can be worthwhile after the planet has been scanned. Because POI markers for trees
are displayed there and you can easily fly to them.
In Odyssey, the trees grow actually all over the body, so the POI marks are probably gone because of this.
However, in Odyssey trees grow all over the planet/moon, preferred in plains.
If there are no fruits on trees because all harvested at the above coordinates or a certian plain, just fly to another place on the planet.

Sometimes you find only the cheap Polyporous Growth as fruit on all trees. I consider this as a bug.
I figured out, that it helped here to go into ship, log out, log in to HORIZONS, fly down to a biologic or geologic
POI marker, switch into SRV, log out from HORIZONS and log back to ODYSSEY. Then drive around a bit.
Interestingly after this task the trees now show the better fruits too, like Phloem Excretion.

Sometimes you get stuck with the SRV at a braintree. Then getting out (Odyssey) and getting back into the SRV helps.
Once I had to completely log out and back in to get the SRV free again.

Turning on night vision even during the day helps to find the trees (to see in my video link above).

Cmdrs Rob Galaxt & Darrack, Thank you kindly for taking the time to write detailed Ejits guide for this particular Cmdr Ejit. I have visited the Hip system and filled up onmost of the top Raw Mats, but need to do Selenium and will try the Brain Tree method in Horizons.

Fly Safe Cmdrs, and once again Many Thank you's
