Good PC, High FPS but Experiencing Freezes

Hello everyone CMND's,

I'm encountering a peculiar issue and hoping someone can offer some insight. I have a fairly decent gaming PC and consistently achieve high FPS in Elite Dangerous. However, I experience intermittent freezes lasting a few seconds, whether I'm in space, on planets, or at stations.

The only potential solution I've found online suggests disabling TPM in the BIOS, which supposedly might help. I did try this, but after disabling TPM, my Windows 11 refused to boot.

Here are my typical FPS readings:

  • In space: 200-400 FPS
  • At a station (in the bar): 80-120 FPS
  • On a planet: 60-150 FPS
I'm playing on high settings. I've also tried reducing the settings to "low," which increased my FPS even further, but the freezes persisted. I've experimented with toggling the FPS limit at 60, enabling and disabling V-Sync, and adjusting G-Sync settings in the NVIDIA control panel. At this point, I'm out of ideas.

Here is my PC configuration:

  • CPU: AMD 7800x3d
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER
  • Graphics Card: 1080ti
  • RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 CL30
  • SSD (game installed here): SK hynix Platinum P41 1TB

I'm not going to be of much help I'm afraid - others here are far more savvy than me - but I do have question.

When yuo say "intermittent freezes" are you seeing what's being described in this thread?

TL;DR - freezes at 5, 10, 15 etc, minutes past the hour.

Yep, Win11 requires TPM - hence that whole "lots of 'older computers' can't upgrade to Win11" thing. Freezing at 5/15/25 past the hour "should" be gone as of yesterday, it was part of the patch. But yeah, nothing seriously stands out there. Older video card but I don't think that should be limiting you in that specific area.
I'd echo what DeckerSolo said - check the drivers and BIOS first.

I apologize, at the time of writing the post, I hadn't logged into the game for over 24 hours, and I didn't know that the patch had fixed this issue.
I just played for 2 hours, and I didn't encounter a single freeze.
Good job, Frontier!

glad that sorted out i remember a while back a game freeze just as i was winning a combat mission, had to log out/task manager ,logged in back at station, destroyed by npc icebox lol.

May be there are Windows updates issue, when my windows update comes my PC begin slow even same I have high end pc gaming setup. I played low end game on pc like stumble guys for pc but still sometime we have issue regarding to speed.
