Good Priced Laptop that can run Planet Coaster (Need Suggestions)

Currently I am using a Macbook (I know bad choice) which cant run Planet Coaster (A Bummer) Can I get some suggestions on some laptops at a budget price at around $1000 at most that can run Planet Coaster, and is portable for school use?

Quick Question will these specs run Planet Coaster well?
Key Specs: CPU: 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7 6700 HQ * GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M with 2GB of VRAM * RAM/Storage: 16GB/1TB 7,200-rpm hard drive * Display Size/Resolution: 15.6-inch/1920 x 1080

I don't have any experience with gaming laptops myself, but I think that spec would give you decent enough performance on the current alpha, and more as performance improves in the future with ongoing optimisations. I can't confirm the frame rate that you will be able to play at maximum graphics settings etc. but it should certainly be playable!

I'm stubborn so i'll say it once more: really really really careful consider if you absolutely need to have a laptop. It will always be less powerful than a desktop PC and it will get way hotter. And a high temperature = bad performance. So ask yourself again does it really need to be a laptop? If you are at school and maybe have 1 hour a day of gaming time during the week ask yourself it its worth the investment.

Gaming laptops are many times overpriced compared to desktop PC's for price/performance.

So it might be better and probably cost about the same or slightly more for performance to just get a simple laptop for school work and invest in a desktop gaming PC for at home.

But in the end the choice is yours, but it's always good to really consider this. [wink]

What brand is that laptop? I have an ASUS ROG. Though it cost €1600 about one-and-a-half years ago, it has a 970m. Benefits? I can play the heaviest games without it getting hot. Sure, a lot of heat is blown out, but the laptop itself stays cool. I think you can find a similar laptop slightly cheaper (the same one is now priced around 1200-1400). In any case, a 960m should do fine for FPS.

Assume this is what you are looking at

I would say that it would struggle to do more than Low settings with a medium to large park. But is based off the current Alpha. I would honestly say buy the game cheap whilst you can (if you haven't already) and then wait for it to officially release.

Then see how it performs and we can help much more with this question then. At the moment it is a little stab in the dark. Also isn't Black Friday around the corner, it worth waiting till then?

I would suggest a 4GB version of the same graphics chip would help though. The model up with this may be worth a look at about $170 more. However it also has a 128GB SSD for the OS compared to the other model.

Lenovo do the same spec model for $100 less at $890?

Asus & MSI are probably best laptop brands but come at a price as well, just as a heads up.

For instance come Black Friday, this might be worth a shout to hold out for. The 980M is pretty close to the desktop version and the CPU although slightly older actually has a higher turbo boost which would help for gaming (at least Planet Coaster wise).

This is my laptop ; https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE70-2QD-Apache.html#hero-specification
I had no problems running the alpha until the park got over 3500 peeps, but the game will be tweaked...

the laptop i have is an older version and was bought for 1150 euro's (150 euro off due to sale)
If you do want to go for a laptop i would recommend a newer version MSI that is VR-gaming ready so you can have fun when the VR's become cheaper.

Something like this for US market(15 inch): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-15-...-drive-aluminum-black/5219400.p?skuId=5219400

You might find it cheaper elsewhere.

So, if you only have only a 1000 to spare, get a desktop, or pay a little more for a good laptop.

Laptops are always a compromise and best suited to someone who needs to do work often on the train etc., or travels a lot and needs to carry a computer with them for whatever reason but not specifically gaming.

If you are just planning on playing Planet Coaster at home then you will get so much more for your money in terms of specs and performance with a desktop PC. Plus it is much easier to upgrade if you decide you want to buy a better graphics card etc or mess about with overclocking in a few years' time. Components in laptops are usually gimped versions of the same model name of the desktop version at the same price but with worse performance (just with an M on the end)

Laptops in my experience also seem to suffer after a few years with battery life and overheating once they get full of dust.

In its current form Planet Coaster is very CPU hungry and I'm still a bit sceptical about how much they are going to be able to optimise it before release.

Yup.

No reason to buy a $1600 laptop when you can buy a better gaming desktop for $1000 and spend the other $600 on a good laptop for your school work. I think its safe to say a 1000$ gaming PC will easily outperform a $1600 or even a $2000 laptop.

Unless you absolutely can only play videogames while riding the train or something there is no reason to get a laptop for gaming to be honest. But in the end the choice is yours
