Got drunk. Deleted save. Oops!

It happened. I got drunk and considered deleting my save. I was just about to press the yes button, I clicked the mouse but didn't let go... a ms later I decided no so I moved my cursor to the "no" option... but it was too late! Apparently ED doesn't register clicks as being a press and release kind of signal like the rest of the computer world. I lost maybe 500 hours or so of playtime and progress.

So I figured what the heck, I'd go ahead and make the best of the situation. I hopped back into the game and played for three hours. I must say, I think I'll not even petition the mess-up. It's quite nice to go back to square one, especially with all the new features that 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 brought us. Start off with your sidewinder, fly over the a high extraction site, follow the cops around and shoot what they shoot - first few million down. Buy Type 6 and passenger slots, fly some rich people around, few more million made.

At the end of a three hour session starting from 1,000cr, I ended off with around 10m creds + a fully fitted Type-6. I'd say I'm making far more progress than I did the first time around. The game seems all fresh again! I guess some mistakes aren't actually mistakes at all.

Karl Marx - it's back to the proletariat for you!

Maybe Engels can lend you something to put food on the table.

I too was flying drink last night.
Singing: "Oh what a place to be - in the service of the bourgeoisie"
While schlepping business men to a boom system like some kind of Uber-mensch.

I think I'm going to bookmark this post for all the times people write open letters to Fdev complaining about nerfs to various get rich quick schemes. Good luck with your new CMDR, Karl; I'm not as brave (or drunk) as you!

Oh god. If I lost my save like that, I'd cry for weeks. I couldn't delete my save if i wanted to. I'm way too attached to my ships for that. Hell, I'd lose it if my main Cobra was destroyed.

Damn it Karl Marx, how many time have we told you to keep away from the booze! :p

You do touch upon an interesting point. I recently went back to flying my Adder and it immediately refreshed that feeling I had when I first started playing. This was a little before 2.2 dropped by the way so it wasn't because of the new stuff from that. I don't know I think there's just something about flying the small ships that makes the ED experience feel more... wondrous. Flying the medium ships makes the game feel more 'lumbering' for some reason and it gets old quicker than when flying a small ship, at least this is what I've realised for myself.

Also I think FD did some of their best work when making the interiors of the small ships. The Adder in particular has something that makes it feel cosey like a pleasing worn leather smell. Enjoy your accidental rebirth Karl! :D

Yeah, I've been slowly modding my fleet and some ships are quite unique now. It would be a hard loss for me as well, but great attitude for the OP!

Glad to hear you took it as well as one could, even under a drunken stupor, so I'll give you some Rep for a good tale of fair warning for others. I personally agree with Momoka, I would be destroyed if I accidentally deleted my account. Would take a lot of motivation to get back to the helm, but I know I would eventually. It sounds like you may have benefited from this experience to some degree though and that you're enjoying your rise back up the economic ladder, so hopefully it keeps you content. Safe travels CMDR and good luck.

Hear, hear!!!!!

I have four accounts in this game and the last one I started this summer during my vaccation. It all felt so fresh and nice, and I could use all my knowledge about the game in order to get to a certain point without it feeling like a grind. And it also reminded me how steep the learning curve actually is for this game; reflecting back on how I did things with my earlier CMDRs.

Which got me thinking.... is the steep learning curve adding to the feeling of "this game is a grind?".

I would say yes to that. Should it be simplified; hell no. Elite Dangerous is where it should be, moving forward.

Whatever happens with Elite Dangerous in the future, it should stay away from catering for people who want instant gratifications.

Well, there is something to be said for the feeling of accomplishment you get from working for something. I do get what you're saying about the reset, but I doubt I'd ever do it. Hundreds of hours in and seven ships, some of my funnest and most exciting experiences where early in the game, especially when I got my first Cobra. I still have it. We've had a lot of fun, that ship and I.:)

After 400 some-odd hours I wiped my save for 2.1. Best decision I ever made in the game. Everyone should nuke their save and start over!

I approve of your life choices.
