Governments and politics in Elite Dangerous

About the Alliance:

(many letters)

Make note: "The real power rests with the Civil Servants, and the Council of Admirals."

We are taking over from now on, you're dismissed.

Hey guys,
One of the group leaders asked a question in the group leaders forum.

There is a group leaders forum? How can I access this? Im a group leader of almost 100 people (95 at the moment) and I dont know about this. After our registration I did not receive an email, perhaps because SPAM filter. Frontier only said me (via pm on this forum - Brett C), that they listed my group, but nothing more. I tried to obtain more information like email addresses from where I can expect other mails (to add them to my contacts so no more SPAM filter would be applied) and requested resend this email (I dont know what information there was and I dont want to miss something), but its more than a week without answer...

Zac, easy money - add this and other information to in-game encyclopedia. You know you need to have one. It's easy task ;)

Other than that - holy meatballs, that's incredible! :D

Totally agree, THIS IS the background. And it's exactly the kind of things we want in the game.
Great idea to have encyclopedia. With a VR, it will be essential to have these things in-game.

Anyway, thanks.

See post 14 page 1 of this thread. I am not sure what email address the emails come from but I'll try to find out.

I have very much proof that Leesti side is undermined and opposed by ALD grinders, some of them even threatening/RP-ing people to defect to ALD or face death. I'm very much aware whose grinders undermine Alioth side. I'm also very much aware that neither reddit actively promotes it, but that doesn't change that we are very much familiar to undermining, even if we don't actively engage on it.

And sure, but extend that deal to Starcloak as well. Or did you think I'm not paying attention? I have never mentioned the Empire in any of my galnet submissions, so don't even try acting like we're on an even standing here. And even if I did, I'd make sure that my opinion is demonstrably given from a stand point outside the Empire, not from within. You have already done it once, I haven't. And yet you still have the spine to say "We shall see who breaks that agreement first.".

You could always come begging for the Alliance to help with the war you are losing against Delaine if you want Alliance commanders to undermine him so much. Kiss Mahon's boots while at it just like you kiss Arissa's. It would be more honorable than your previous attempt and Starcloak's latest attempt at propaganda after all.

Edit: Of course you'd run and hide behind the moderators while continuing to abuse the trust Ian shows to you. I didn't expect you to take responsibility of your actions.

Dear sir (or madam),

When you said "And you are in no position to ever mention the Alliance in a post of yours to be fair" I inferred that you meant you didn't want me saying anything about the Alliance on any post on the forums AT ALL. I was confused by the request, but it was one I was happy to oblige with reciprocal consideration. The misunderstanding would have been easily averted if you'd explicitly stated you were actually angry with me over an article I wrote for GalNet over two months ago. As for the accusation that I don't take responsibility for my actions, I believe I did.

I write articles for GalNet that I think fit in the Elite universe. The ones FD cares to pick up are picked up. It's my way of contributing to the overarching lore. It is an art of sorts to weave the actions of players into the background lore in a harmonious way. It's not an easy task to bring the actions of individuals, groups, minor factions, major factions, PowerPlay, etc. into harmony. No stipulation was ever made about a player's required loyalties in order to submit an article on any subject. So feel free to write whatever you wish about the Empire. I frankly don't care. This is just a game we're creating content for. If you write something of quality that deserves a place in the game, it will be published. If you review my history, you'll never find me complaining about someone else's submission on any controversial topic, though I've certainly weathered my fair share of complaints. Frontier has the final say in what content is incorporated into the game, and that's good enough for me.

To date, I've contributed 76 articles for GalNet, though only a part of those have been published. The fact that so many of my pieces are picked up has more to do with the relative quality of my work and the statistical law of large numbers more than anything else. There is no favoritism in what articles are published and what articles are not. Anyone who watches the submission thread will note that works of quality that fit Frontier's vision of their universe, and that abide by the rules of submission, get published, without regard for who writes them or what the topic is. Substandard works, works that conflict with Frontier's vision of the Elite universe, and those that do not abide by the rules of submission, do not get published. Any perceived favoritism is in the eye of the beholder.

No, I'm not running and hiding behind moderators. I merely wanted to make their lives easier by diffusing a conflict I started with a cheeky comment (thus the winking smiley face). I'm very proud that I've never been in a thread that was closed due to arguments that got out of hand, and I'd very much like to keep it that way. I'd like to apologize to the moderators, the other readers of this thread, and the OP for continuing this line of discussion well beyond its useful life, but I figured I at least have the right to explain myself in a peaceable manner.

Good day.

See post 14 page 1 of this thread. I am not sure what email address the emails come from but I'll try to find out.

The problem is that my group is approved, but I did not receive email from Frontier. Brett only said that my group is on the list, no more information. I dont know what was in the email, maybe some more information or access to this forum etc. and Brett is not answering.

I believe Brett gets an awful lot of PMs - if you don't get a reply within a few days I would try again.

If you only applied recently, it may be that your application was received but your group not fully registered yet. It may be on the list to be added in the next round - I think they do them in batches. How long ago did you apply?

According to the posts in the groups public forum, emails are to groups@elitedangerous.com so I assume any feedback would come from there also.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Let's keep personal disputes out of this, ok? Take it up via private messaging, or use the forum's 'ignore' feature if absolutely necessary. Thank you.

Wait, aren't there some inconsistencies?
The Alliance was formed circa 3230 AD in Alioth, and portrays itself as a beacon of human rights and democracy in an increasingly autocratic universe. It does not conform to the political ideals of the totalitarian Empire, or the authoritarian Federation and there is much cultural variation among its members. This, however, means they often struggle to achieve political agreement. The presidency changes annually around its member systems.

But here, Michael says "In theory, every six years". I came to the forums to ask when Edmund was being replaced by the next PM since he's been in charge since AT LEAST March 3301. Or is this Retcon so that you guys don't need to come up with another PP portrait?.

Since Mahon is the Prime Minister, not the President, we could potentially have him around for another 5 years. There is a link in your quoted section to the Elite Wiki page for the Alliance President. That page also has a convenient link to the Prime Minister page.

Here's some quick copy-pasta that backs up the OP

The President is a political leader in the Alliance. The incumbent is unknown. The presidency moves between member systems annually.

The Alliance Prime Minister seems to be the hands-on leader of the Alliance. Alliance leadership is a complex interlocking of systems, committees and power-sharing which some see as a limit on the Prime Minister’s influence.

Anyway, hope that helps disambiguate potential confusion.

Thanks for clarifying. Currently in the Empire just because I just couldn't resonate with Edmund personally... (largely in agreement with the alliance and his decisions/public statements... but just missing something). Thought maybe that might be different with the next one that might cause me to defect RP wise (esp now since Alliance space seems to be where alot more action is right now as far as CGs and alien wise)... oh well.

President vs Prime Minister
If we go with Newsletter #22 there is a President as Symbolic Head of state that changes every year, and a Prime Minister elected from the Assembly every 6 years as head of Government.

Great info, Zac. +1 rep.

I only skimmed the Federation stuff, since it's the only part that interests me. But I'll probably read the commie pinko other stuff when I can. ;)

Anyone can stand for election. They do not need to be backed by a political party or minor faction, but it helps. There are three major parties, Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians. Corporations generally do push (and fund) their chosen candidates or parties (eg Hudson), as do other special interest groups.

Props for having Libertarians as a major party in the Federation. :)

· Where exactly is Congress located?
Olympus Village (a misnomer – it is now a sprawling metropolis) on Mars, and Congressmen are expected to attend in person to vote.

Why is it still called a Village if it's a metropolis? Rename it to something cooler like Olympus Prime?

I've got a more important question:

As Hudson took the presidency mid-term, how much longer does he have in office before the next election?
