Horizons Great performance on old hardware - Thanks Frontier!

Running an old dual core 3 ghz, 4gigs of ddr2 ram and a 760gtx 2gb video card. Plays smooth on Ultra at 40-60fps. Using Windows 7 x64.

Wow! I have 2GB GTX660 OC (not hugely behind a 760) 8GB RAM and Q9550@3GHz (quad core). On High I get between around 30fps (dips to 25, peaks to 40) on the surface in the SRV but low level flying is around 20fps depending how much terrain is shown. This is at 1920x1080 with 1.0 supersamping. What Res are you running?

Obviuosly I may turn down some settings in the long run but still experimenting at the moment. Given the low fps sometimes its not too bad smoothness wise.

I was looking to upgrade the PC in the new year but not sure what GPU too go for given the variety of results from various places in the forum. Was looking at a GTX970 but now not sure if need 980 980ti to be safe. (Sorry, not an AMD fan)

I've got a GT630M 2GB in my laptop and I'm getting better performance than that (though I have dropped SS to 0.85). Shadows and AO are killers so I've switched both of those off - this is a vid I took in Beta 5, though now I've popped a few of the settings up a wee bit and still get decent performance:

Interesting... Thanks, I only had an hour to play around with it yesterday, so I'll see if I can manage to improve the FPS a bit more later today. I'm pretty sure I had everything on low and off though (or was using the low preset), but SS may have been at 1.0x, maybe that's why. I've also heard the SRV headlights when turned on cause heavy lag for some, so that might be another factor. As long as I get it to a stable 20, it's smooth enough for me to play and be satisfied (I'm not greedy in terms of FPS).

Default graphic settings (Ultra/High for everything)

Typically 25-30 fps on planet surface, with occasional dips to 15-20

I've been a good boy this year and done what Mummy asked me to do.
Hoping for some Skylake PC parts from Santa Claus. ;)

Well, I seem to be now getting a stable 20-30 FPS on medium settings with my GT 640M 2GB while driving on planets now, yesterday I had <10 FPS while on the lowest settings.... Weird...

same here, horizons is working over all my expectations and fears on my ca 5 year old pc. i even only had 4gb ram to start with in beta, and i still had a fully playable game in every possible situation (20fps if its a really bad drop or once in a while when using headlights on srv, but almost never ever under 25fps, on ultra + fxaa)

so if anyone sitting on a brand new gaming pc and cant play this game well.. im willing to trade ur pc for mine in return ;)
also accepting donations to upgrade my gfx card :)

Im on GT9500, Dual core 2.7ghz, 3go RAM. "YOU CANNOT RUN ELITE DANGEROUS HORIZONS". Elite is about 20-45fps on my computer if i unlock the fps limit...

How fast do you have to pedal??

Very similar to mine, runs no issues. FPS 25-40

My 9800Ultra went poof recently and I didn't know the onboard Radeon HD7480D had shader 5.0 and dx11

Have to disagree, been running ED on max across 3 screens since it started with 120 FPS (ish) (I7 6700k, 2x 780ti's SLI'd, 16gig RAM) Dropped about 40 FPS in space flight/stations when as far as i can see, nothing graphically has changed.

Get about 25 FPS on planet surface when the texture quality is pretty low tbh and barely nothing there to generate (random landing site no base etc).
