General / Off-Topic Greatest Space Movies of All-Time "Opinions"

SPACE MOVIES / DOCUMENTARIES

EDIT: Since we've covered just about every movie, what about really good space documentaries like Journey to the edge of the universe. I will add them to the list after the movies! make sure you say weather or not its a documentary or movie.

As I sit around in my derelict spaceship like the rest of you guys waiting patiently for BETA Three to hit the shores, i'm wondering what your favorite Outer Space Exploration/ Outer space Themed Movies of All-Time are? Movies that would inspire you to immediately jump into your elite space craft and set-out on another adventure.

The above two are joint first IMHO
Solaris - the original Tarkovsky

Event Horizon - just for the racket it makes.

a point for event horizon - this one touched me a lot with sam neill

and star crash

2001 - Has to be the greatest space movie of all time.

Silent Running - Slightly Disturbing, but one that keeps you sitting there for the whole movie.

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.......................................OK I'll get my coat on the way out ;)

For me the original Alien film I think but I always liked (and I will get laughed out of the park for this one) Disneys The Black Hole. It had great effects and the sense of size you got of the USS Cygnus was fantastic. I can remember playing Elite on the BBC 'B' and thinking Generation ships must be something like that.

Most of the above, and Sunshine, which was a beautifully made movie with some flaws towards the end.. still like it though.

Moon stands out for me.

Also waiting on Interstellar. :)

Sunshine seems particularly relevant for Elite: Dangerous.

Edit: urp, didn't realize there was a page 2 to this thread, and it was mentioned just above...

Edit 2: Oh wait, those were all posted while I was composing/looking for the image. I hereby rescind feeling bad about it.
