Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind....Grind

So many people complaining about Elite being far too much of a grind.... And i'm getting a bit tired of hearing it.

The reason that those people find it a grind, mostly do so because they are choosing to grind......

You don't have to have the biggest ship fully kitted out and a zillion credits in the bank.... You can just play the game....

But the problem is that FD have not given us much reason to just play.....

The conundrum is that people are grinding towards an objective because there are no objectives that do not require grind.....

What is needed is more player interaction that people can just enjoy playing with / against each other.

For example, make PvP piracy a real thing that you can actually do, enjoy doing, and make a career from.

make PvP bounty hunting a real thing that you can also do, enjoy doing, and make a career from.

Make the criminal record, similar to a 'rank' that is much more persistent, so that you really have to consider which path you go down.

There is no such thing as grind, unless you have got a boring job. You do your job ( game) well and you get rewarded. Fair enough.
Now imagine your Boss tells you "oh by the way, you number came out , you will not get paid this month" :)
All cool. Not

Cheers Cmdr's

I'm just going to say exactly what I said in another post.

Here's a suggestion, stop being "I want x" orientated, do stuff that makes sense to you in game, if you want to explore? explore, you do not 'need' modules or whatnot, just explore, you'll find plenty of materials and whatnot as you explore, it all comes very naturally, want to do missions? do missions.

Elite is built around 'do stuff and use what you get while doing to help improve doing what you enjoy more'
Exactly the same goes for engineers.

If you are specific goal orientated wanting a specific item, then yes, it is going to feel like a grind, very much so, but that is exactly the same as any other game out there, want the legendary uber sword in an mmo? grind grind grind.

You do not need engineer stuff to do what you want to do, so just do it, I get that a lot of games has taught people that you need the best of the best, but that doesn't really hold true in Elite.
Sure an Anaconda is very nice for exploration, but an ASP will get you just about everywhere an Anaconda can do, and heck a Diamondback Explorer will do a great job as well.
You do not 'need' 50+ ly jump range or similar from engineering buff to do anything, sure it will help you to get from a to b in the galaxy faster, but with exploration itself you might just be skipping a ton of places that could be insanely nice, earth likes, black holes what have you, you could be skipping right past them.

So yeah, try to let go of the "I must have x" and just do what you want to do.

But the problem is that FD have not given us much reason to just play.....
And to address this specifically, Frontier give us a ton of things we can do, 'why' would we do them? because you want to? why do you play a game? to get something you can show off to others? to affect others?

Personally I play games because I enjoy them, and I am enjoying Elite, because it allows me exactly what I want to do, but if you are very direct goal orientated, aka. go here to be x, go there to be y, go there to be z, then yeah games like Elite are going to be rough for you, but here's the thing, there are a ton of games that are like that out there, personally I enjoy Elite because it is a true sandbox, contrary to what many say, a sandbox is not a place that gives players a directed line to walk down, it is a thing that give players a lot of freedom to do whatever they want to. And some people will chose to grind because that's all they know from other games, and have a hard time enjoying games with no hard defined goals.

I get tired of hearing why people's opinions are wrong. The audience can't be wrong. If 1/2 the audience are unhappy, those are the ratings. End of story.

The audience can't be wrong.

Um yeah it can. Also where did you pull the magical number of 1/2 of the audience from? Did you go to every person that plays Elite and ask them? Otherwise that number is IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW end of story.

The number 1/2 was an example, I thought that was obvious, and you totally missed my point.

Saying the audience (or a proportion of the audience) is wrong or misguided about something is like saying the results of a poll are wrong simply because you don't like it.

PS. 357/1000 ;)

They are well opinions. Many of them are positioned as ultimate truth. That's why you will get responses like these. Stats are stats.

*shrug* FDev turned open into an arms race. You can either grind to keep up or not play Open. Or play Open and know that the longer the game goes on the more likely it is you'll encounter a player you have no hope of beating, skill be damned.

To be honest, I would LOVE to grind.
I am always short on credits and it would be awesome if I could just sit, doing one thing and earn lots.

But unfortunately I can't, because it's utterly boring and there is always something more fun to do.
I envy you, OP.
