I sometimes have the sneaking suspicion that we're all 'playing the pratt version of Rimmer', as far as Elite Dangerous is concerned.

I don't know what that means but I think I agree?

You think the game's fun? right?

Aye but who's to say one's opinion is more valid than another's.

No ones is but acting like you are right because of some number you made up on top of your head is just utter stupid. Hello Donald Trump!

There is always a bigger ship.

If you ever meet someone with an anaconda. Boy do they rub it in your face. Now with the corvette they're no longer the biggest ship on the block, So having a big ship with max load outs is a 'status' symbol.

Its repeating the same trade run X1000 to get credits

I have an Anaconda, but I much rather my Asp and Python. I totally want a Cutter, but I'm having a blast flying my Python again.

I can do anything in it and not die. It's awesome.

I get tired of hearing why people's opinions are wrong. The audience can't be wrong. If 1/2 the audience are unhappy, those are the ratings. End of story.
I don't know about people saying others are wrong, I personally am saying that people can easily play and do stuff they want without having to grind, the problem seems to come from those that want x item to 'be able' to do something, because apparently, you can't do it without, which just doesn't seem true.
*shrug* FDev turned open into an arms race. You can either grind to keep up or not play Open. Or play Open and know that the longer the game goes on the more likely it is you'll encounter a player you have no hope of beating, skill be damned.
I just don't see it? I am doing fine in open and with my unmodified asp, flying around doing a bit of whatever I want to, though granted currently not playing 'that' much because I feel like I'm melting because of the weather, but that aside, it isn't really an arms race, at least not on a whole, if you want to find and fight other people in PvP constantly, then yeah, those with engineer mods will have advantages.
But for everyone else it isn't really an arms race, a trader might be able to stand a slightly better chance against a pirate, but that pirate is on the other side probably going to be upgraded anyway, so it evens out, you end up giving them the cargo, and in the case of those blowing up traders and others for fun, that hasn't changed either, since they pick weaker targets.

But the problem is that FD have not given us much reason to just play.....

The conundrum is that people are grinding towards an objective because there are no objectives that do not require grind.....

What is needed is more player interaction that people can just enjoy playing with / against each other.

For example, make PvP piracy a real thing that you can actually do, enjoy doing, and make a career from.

make PvP bounty hunting a real thing that you can also do, enjoy doing, and make a career from.

Make the criminal record, similar to a 'rank' that is much more persistent, so that you really have to consider which path you go down.

Shame you didn't just post that mate instead of the inflammatory "grind" post as everyone has missed your point (too busy jumping on the bandwagon)

I'm from the U.S. so I have a pretty strong opinion about how healthy 'direct democracy' is.

A lot of folks in this community seem to think that if a majority of users are 'for' something than the thing
should be shaped for their needs. This is a completely logical idea... but it's bull-huckey.

The masses are hardly ever right about anything. I defy you to find an important time in history where the right
thing was done with majority support. WWII was a couple smart guys willing strong nations into a fight. In the US,
the Civil Rights act of 1964 would have never happened if it took a majority.

We elected a group of people to make the game for us. That's the way it should be.

I'd like to pat myself on the back. That was awesome.

This is a classic form of manipulation you're using. I explicitly explained I wasn't using the number 1/2 to say anything in particular, and I even went on further to explain my point to you as it went completely over your head - without being rude or insulting I might add which is more I can say for you - yet you're still maintaining I'm saying something I'm not simply for the sake of weakening my position and strengthening your own. Now that's politics. Get out of my face.

True.
Especially because "The Majority" on game forums usually means "five loudest and least considerate users"

So many people complaining about Elite being far too much of a grind.... And i'm getting a bit tired of hearing it.

The reason that those people find it a grind, mostly do so because they are choosing to grind......

You don't have to have the biggest ship fully kitted out and a zillion credits in the bank.... You can just play the game....

The game is designed around the PvE collection of tophies...so is the real PvP. The kind of PvP you are asking for, although allowed, will never 'get better' because the devs are, apparently, happy with the side show nature of it. In short, PvP sucks...and is not going to get improved.

Well now you mention, the USA is a strange place.
I will not pull things out of hat, as this is not a political forum.
But the USA is a strange, awkward, foreign place. Better be armed.

Cheers Cmdr's

The number 1/2 was an example, I thought that was obvious, and you totally missed my point.

Saying the audience (or a proportion of the audience) is wrong or misguided about something is like saying the results of a poll are wrong simply because you don't like it.

PS. 357/1000 ;)

Yeah people, the voice of most of them mean nothing in terms of quality, sad truth.

On topic: People freely choose to grind and then complain about their decision. Now see my first sentence ... there´s a hidden reason in this.

I agree with your first sentence. In the last 10 days I've travelled over 100LY from my start point, picked up loads of materials via combat, mining, scanning & missions......and am on the verge of getting an invite from Felicity Farseer and The Dweller.....and I didn't have to "grind" for even a single second. Power Play is a Grind.....no choice there at the moment....but that isn't true of any other part of the game.

As for adding new content, that is definitely what they are trying to do....but Rome wasn't built in a day. Upcoming overhauls of Powerplay and the military game will help to add a lot more for players to do in-game, as will passenger missions.

I don´t think this is a PvP-Game.
