Grind instead fun. Why?

It would be true if there wasn’t a better reward for the top few percent. If people aren’t intended to grind like that, then such rewards wouldn’t be there in every cg.

Why not? The CG rewards are appotioned according to how much you contributed to the CG. Seems fair to me. I've participated in a few CGs and I've received some low payouts because I just dipped my toes in, that's fine. I got what I was entitled to. The rewards increase as more and more contributions are made too, but they're designed that way to encourage more people to get stuck in, not to encourage a few people to do all the work. Ultimately, nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to engage in gameplay you don't have an interest in.

What's fun to some is grind to others. Picking up mats because I come across them playing the game? Great. Some people prefer to get them all at once and be done with it.

It would help if limpets worked a little better, or some were built into every ship.

FOR THE DRAGON!

(Sorry, couldn’t resist as a longtime KuritaWarrior!)

You only "grind" if you don't enjoy the process of playing the game.

I used to play World of Tanks obsessively. I put in about 2600 hours into that game, most of that in the span of the first 4 years after release. And yet very few of those hours were spent grinding, in what people would otherwise call one of the most grindy (and exploitative) non-asian MMOs out there. Why? Because I enjoyed the base gameplay loop. I loved playing the game rather than merely trying to unlock tanks. I certainly enjoyed unlocking new stuff but the time in between was not spent looking forward to the next thing, it was spent enjoying what I had. I loved shooting tanks, seeing things explode, and more importantly having to use my brain and experience to try and win games despite the best effort of my teams. The unlocks were just the cherry on top and allowed a bit of welcome variation in the gameplay.

But of course, at some point the game lost its appeal for me. I had been doing pretty much the same thing for 26 thousand matches, and that can get stale. That's when I could have done what everybody else seems to be doing (and allows Wargaming.net to make a lot of money), and kept playing just to unlock stuff. Trade the fun I was no longer having as much of for the illusory satisfaction you think you'll feel at the end of the grind. Fortunately I instead I took the only sane decision: I stopped playing.
Certainly I have played that game an excessive amount, and I could have better used that time to do more constructive things, but ultimately all that was spent having fun which is all you can ask from life really. But if I had spent those thousands of hours grinding instead, I wouldn't even have that excuse. Those wouldn't be 2600 hours of wasteful self-indulgence but 2600 hours of wasteful stupidity, because in the end it's all just pixels, you can't look back on it and think "I trully achieved something there".

Now I know a lot of people out here think "sure, enjoy the game is nice in theory, but when it comes to ED the game itself is a bit crap so all that's left is the grind"... but then fixing the grind wont fix the game. If Frontier fixes the grind, if the timeframes involved are significantly shortened, you'll still be left with a crap game that wastes your time, no matter how much or how little you play it. If what keeps you playing isn't the flying, the shooting, the missions, the pretty sights, because you think none of it is up to par, then you need to re-evaluate what it is that keeps you playing (running after that dopamine release from being rewarded wont sustain a healthy relationship with the game for long, nor will falling prey to the sunken cost fallacy) and what your criticism focuses on.

It's a small rant, I just don't understand peoples sometimes.
I just saw a post on reddit, how someone farm Guardian stuff for the CG. He/She lands near two artifacts then picks up, transfer and relog
While I am also doing this CG, I am having fun off-roading, jumping, parkour around the ruins, and picking up almost every artifact(there is ~20-30/site? newer counted), and relog every ones in a while. Takes more time to get back to the ship, but at least it's fun.
Instead people doing this: pick up 2 artifact-transfer-logoff-login-pick up-transfer-logoff-login-pick up-transfer-logoff-login-pick up-transfer-logoff-login-pick up-transfer-logoff-login-pick up-transfer-logoff-login....... who knows how long, till full cargo I guess.

I can understand people have job+family and little time to play/week, and there are people who frustrated with the SRV (but I guess the latter wont participate in CG-s like this anyway) but it seems to me people sometimes forget ED is a videogame meant for entertainment, amusement, not a job or a self punishment.

I know some parts of ED needs some grinding, there is a long term debate between ppls saying this game too much grinding, and others it's only in the head, I am not talking about that, there is enough debate on that topic.
But this is a good example, when the game can be fun, but ppl instead making into hard grinding. I just cant understand if something can be fun, why people making it deliberately grinding. I cant believe board hopping is fun for anyone, even if not enough time to play, or striving for efficiency and max profit... but if we are on the profit, the Relic worth the most amongst other artifacts, so it's even worth to go around instead picking up 2 closest non Relic for hundreds time...

When I saw the post I dropped my jaw(why ppl doing this to themselves), but found it, rant over.

Three little words is the answer, ready? Games within games...gaming the game. Thats 6 but the space means it doesnt count.

What is grind to you is bread n butter gameplay to others who enjoy it, their reasons and motives their own...does there need to be a specific reason why? Ive done hundreds of data delivery missions all this past week...few others simply fer the rep gain which to many is literally the definition of grind. My motivation? My business but since ye asked nicely, ships and permits that if not worked for, remain out of my game...and that just will not do at all.

That being said, partaking in grind is, when all is said and done, a choice that doesnt require understanding just acceptance.

Started on three, Ill end with three monkeys...hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil...grind is in the mind ^

In all honesty, when playing GTA 5, I can see where people are coming from. If you have 2 hours a week, wave all the high tech stuff goodbye. I won't be surprise if micro transactions will be introduced to solve grinding issue here as well.

Nah. Fly an Eagle in all CZ's (if you think you've got the minerals) .. and stay happy.

It is fascinating when people deliberately Min Max and then moan about grinding. If the Devs made the game utterly fascinating and progression utterly convoluted then the same sort of people would moan that they can't progress. Leave em to it.

Sorry, but is not aided and abetted by FDev. There is no need to participate in a CG. It is a choice, just like PP is. If you want to grind these things, the choice is yours, FD do not force that on you.

Ignore fundamental elements of the game, brought out to great fanfare by FD.

Be as sorry as you want, it's OK.
