Grind objectively exists

Yet you haven't mentioned the BGS or powerplay... With Powerplay I finally see the depth of Elite Dangerous. The rise and fall of factions matters. Where you trade, who you give exploration data to, who you kill... it all matters A LOT. It all ties in together in a complex web that can be 100% manipulated by the players if you know what you're doing. Now that I'm doing power play I'm still playing the same game of getting more money and getting bigger/better ships, but I'm doing it while also serving a larger purpose. Undermining, fortifying, expanding, preparing, participating in wars, running missions for specific factions to increase their influence, and seeking out engineers to tweak my ship to be better at all of those things. On top of all that I'm still working on my fed rank, which is now just sort of happening in the background while I do other stuff.

I have SO much stuff I can do now it's borderline overwhelming. Suddenly I need like 2-3 more specialized ships, and because I love modding I need to unlock engineers for all those ships... GAH! SO MUCH STUFF. None of it feels grindy. I spend an hour of play, get about 10 missions done. I make some money, gain a level of rep with a faction; minor goal complete. Honestly, it's the same for other games. 1 hour of play in an mmo would not even be enough to increase my rep with whatever "group" I was working towards. 10 quests in an hour with an mmo... if I wasn't speed running that sounds about right.

Stop pigeon-holing the game. There's plenty to do and plenty of reasons to do it. People just don't want to for some reason.

I don't grind. Why would I do that. When I don't like doing something, I do something else.

Oh, sorry, I have a different opinion than you, so I'm gonna start another thread about it.

See, you say 'logical' and what you really mean is 'agree with us', some of you guys want an echo chamber not a debate.

I was talking about a select few people who constantly tell me that I'm just playing it wrong if I'm not enjoying it, and that the game is 100% perfect or very close to being so. I'm fine with people enjoying the game, so long as they understand that I have the ability to not see things the same way they do.

I probably could've phrased that quote better, but at this point I really can't be bothered.

Yeah.. consider me at the end of my rope. There's no debate to be had here, just a few islands of sanity in the midst of a bunch of fanboys.

Mods, please lock, this thread is going nowhere fast.

does anyone say that? I really like the game but there is a LOT missing from it that was talked about 3 years ago.. Some of it was clearly never going to be in it from launch, but a lot of what i expected from (close to) day 1 is still not in there today.

Oh, the 'fanboys' meme again, so, if you are not 'grinding' to a self imposed goal in a self imposed way you are a 'fanboy' now?

It depends on whether you play Elite as a game or as a simulator. The OP is right if you play Elite as a Game. The other thread's OP is right if you play the game as a simulator of having a 2nd life in space. Is there a right or wrong way to approach Elite? Or is this simply another example of "blaze your own trail"? The grind is there if you want/need it. And you can always ignore it if you don't.

Personally, I do a bit of both depending on my mood.

Well, I can't name those people, but a shining example is the OP of the other thread. The kind of people that suggest boredom is a personal problem, even when experienced by multiple other people.

Here's a simple test. Pretend for a minute that you've sunk the time necessary to become triple elite. Exploration, trade, and combat. You have every ship, and you have an A rated and engineered build for each one. You have more money than God because you have no reason to spend any of it because you own everything already

What do you do next? What is your next goal?

Is it a wonder that people like the SDCs of the world turn towards CMDR harassment? It's not like there's much else to do.
To answer your simple test, I *HAVE* everything, I am quad elite, have every ship possible, have more money than I know what to do with, don't care for power play or for manipulating the BGS. Unlike SDC who are basically just a bunch of childish bored people, I don't go around killing everyone. Heck if someone wants something I will just give it to them if I can, well unless its SDC, they can all rot in hell. So why do I log in almost every single day play for an hour or two? Because I enjoy flying my space ship, sometimes I fly a big one, sometimes I fly a little one, sometimes I go explore a little, sometimes I do some mining, sometimes I fight in CZ, sometimes I play some CQC.

Unlike a lot of people who feel like they need to make an impact on the game to progress, I just exist in the game and I don't care if I affect it in any way shape or form. If something in the game changes, I change with it. But in the end I just fly my ship and do stuff, I don't pretend to be some great hero that saves the galaxy, I am not, I am just an insignificant spec of dust that exists in the universe and its FUN.
