Can anyone explain what I might be doing wrong, Im doing my first Guardian ruin. iv fought all the drones, activated all the pylons and collected a relic. but iv been jettisoning this bloody thing for 30mins and it will not go in the slot.. what am I missing here?

any help would be appriciated

You have to have your SRV directly over the blue receptacle on the ground in front of the orb. Use the external camera to ensure you are correctly lined up before jetisoning the ancient relic. Obviously you need to have fully activated all the turrets first within the timer.
There are numerous YT videos on this. OAs and D2EAs videos are pretty clear.

I cant get anymore over it than this, Im guessing I must be at a site that needs a key instead of a Relic, although i havent found anything like that 🤷‍♂️

Indeed make sure you have the correct Guardian site. Since it's your first expedition my bet is you're going for the frameshift drive booster.

Gives a good explanation. He talks very fast but has cut his guide into relevant pieces. Also make sure you have every item you need to unlock it. You can exit to main menu and restart the game to harvest more materials. Yes that means fighting the sentinels again but once you get the hang of that it's a walk in the park. Also you don't have to platform jump towards the "altar." You can drive around it and climb the hill on the sides.
Last but not least: make sure you have a relic with you at the altar. That's something I have experience with....

As suggested earlier - it's a Vessel site, so you need an Ancient Key:

Edit: Suggest you tell the guide-maker as it wasn't clear. And ofc if you don't want an SLF then you want to go somewhere else :)

Hey OP if you are still in the area you may check and see if there are any carriers near that are selling ancient keys at a reasonable price, or look up Cannon's list of beacon sights and see if one is near Cannon Guardian Beacons.
It may be worth it to pick up a few blueprints while you are there unless you plan on being back. Even if you don't want them now at least you have them if you ever decide to go into AX combat.

I am at a beacon now and picking up a few extra myself.

I have never done the robolobster sites but that looks hella easy to activate.
