When the orb thingie floats up, switch to turret view and you should be able to target it* - then just use the datalink scanner.

*There is not a targetable "box" until the orb finshes rising.

Once you have activated all (6?) beacons, you need to drop a Relic (for weapons and module blueprints) or Key (for ship blueprints) into the keyhole on the platform in front of the terminal. Then the actual terminal will rise out of the base, and once it has done its initial dance, you can target it with the SRV's scanner (turret view) and scan it for the blueprint data.

Keep in mind that the blueprints are site specific - you won't achieve anything if you drop a Key at a wepons or module site, and likewise you'll get no reaction if you drop a Relic on a ship blueprint site.

Relics are easy to get on the sites themselves, just shoot them off the Relic towers. For Keys, you'll need to find a Guardian space installation and go through the paces there.

Edit: just checked - IC 2391 Sector HG-X b1-8 is a vessel blueprint site, so you'll need to get a Key from a Guardian space installation. They're fun.

Can you use an Ancient Key at any Guardian site with the vessel blueprints or does it have to be the one it specifies in the message?

To answer my own question, it does not have to be the location it tells you. It can be used at any Guardian site with a vessel blueprint terminal.
