Guardian weapons - are they worth crafting?

I have several guardian weapon blueprints. Is it worth crafting some weapons? Do they offer advantages over the standard weapons which can be engineered? Don't mind the grind to collect the necessary materials etc if the outcome is worth it and lethality is increased.

You don't have to craft them, you unlock them. You pay the resource cost once and can then buy as many as you want.

Guardian weapons are the best we have to fight Thargoids. If you're only fighting other human ships you won't need them.

The Guardian FSD booster might still be of interest to you. It can give you +10ly jump range.

There are pros and cons.

Pro:
They provide different weapon types that are effective for people who prefer PA's and railguns.
They are effective against human vessels

Cons:
They are difficult/time consuming to unlock
They have FAR greater energy consumption compared to standard PA's and rails, while having lower DPS
Unable to be engineered

Guardian weapons make you more well-rounded, compared to AX weapons, but can be difficult to integrate into a tight power budget.

The modules are mostly pretty great, though, imo.

For thargoid hunting, the gauss rifles are peerless.
For regular use, the plasma charger in particular I feel is well worth it over regular plasmas...

-The 'bolt' is faster, which makes it easier to hit targets.
-The regular plasma gives no indication when it is ready to fire again, which results (at least for me) in many 'darn thing won't fire' missed shots. Whereas the charger is very clear - it fires when you let go of the fire button, and gives you a clear charge bar to indicate your charge level, much better feedback.
-It often isn't clear with plasmas if you hit the target or not, the 'burst' is very small. Whereas a plasma charger will create a blue cloud of gas on impact, making it very clear that you actually hit something. (at least at full charge).

Because of these 'better feedback' and 'easier to hit' advantages, me and a few other folks find it a much more fun weapon to use than regular plasma accelerators, thus I highly recommend these things.

If you want to fight Thargoids, guardian weapons are pretty much necessary. They're WAY better than their AX counterparts, especially if you aim to fight Thargoid interceptors. The only situation where AX weapons are better are in fighting scouts - mounting turreted multicannons can be useful then.

They are slaved for, rather than crafted.
You're certainly not wrong. But those gauss cannons...those sweeeeeet Gauss Cannons. If you're looking to kill bugs, you'll never have a greater weapon at your side than a Guardian Gauss Cannon. If you're not fighting bugs...then it's your choice

Gauss are godly versus the Interceptors. The Shard Cannons are okay for Scouts and lower tier Interceptors. The Plasma Charger is mostly useless until you get to the higher tier Interceptor like the godly Hydra where it's significantly harder to exert the hearts without synthing premium ammo (or fighting in a Wing). Avoid the turreted versions like the plague as they offer nothing of note over the fixed versions and suffer too much a DPS penalty.

theres nothing else to use the blueprints for so you might as well. The shock and shard cannons are ok for pve. the gauss you need for the interceptors but its easier to kill scouts with regular weapons.

Pretty much everything is already covered. I want to add a couple of things:

I like Guardian power plant. It’s not the best for combat but it has more power than the armoured pp, more integrity than the overcharged counterpart. It sits between overcharged and armoured while being lighter than the armoured. I use it on my exploration ships.

Guardian shield reinforcement package is also good. It has flat shield boost thus smaller ships benefit from it more. Guardian module reinforcement is better than the human one since human one can’t be engineered. It uses power though.

Besides all the things above, it's worth noting that size 1 gauss fires as fast as size 2 rail if you want to pair a small with medium for some reason. For my AX, I go with 2 plasma chargers and 2 gauss. I know 4 gauss would be more meta, but I don't like to boat. Those plasmas have big magazines and are pretty ammo efficient, depending your playstyle, for long fights. Hitting a Scout with fully charged plasma is pretty satisfying. OK for exerting the Interceptors' hearts so I can then snipe them with the gauss.
