Our community is quite venomous. It's really rather sad. We can all form our opinions on someone based on how they act or make decisions, but borderline attacking them because you don't value that opinion is something happening far too frequently.

You are right... but cmon, he isn't really going to quit. He's just frustrated, as we all have been a time or 10 in this game...he will be playing again tomorrow night after he has had a chance to cool off. OP.. avoid Alpha Centauri missions at all costs. Lesson learned.

With all due respect, commander: I for one have not mentioned anything negative about OP; I only observed that the camel whose back was broken must have been rather anemic. I base this observation on personal game experience and other posts on this forum. I do sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that OP will come back, stronger and more experienced from this incident, and that I will be able to greet him on my travels, maybe wing up for some fun together. I also hope that poor camel can get some braces for his back...

Well, this is kind of like saying you spend 1:20 minutes writing a test essay and you were suppose to hand your paper in at 1:18 minutes. Then you rage quit the class...? I don't think you would do that to begin with, plus you have the ability to check the remaining time.

Though that 6,942,524 Ls is a little messed up...

A simple line of code in the procedural generation should do the trick...

if(distanceToSun>acceptableTravelRange)
{
generateStation=false;
}

or something like that...

Well... FD must wanted people to sleep and afk in their game I guess .-.

Hutton isn't procedurally generated. It's manually placed, because it's a holdover from one of the previous games, just like the stations in Earth orbit are.

No worries Draxxen, I'm not pointing out anyone specifically. I don't feel that is constructive. Instead I was simply pointing out the trend of the thread. People are very keen to finish pushing this person out of the car. I'm just sick of the negativity and hope that pointing it out might have even the slightest positive impact on some of the people doing it.

Oh also.... because I can't help myself...

i do agree with you to an extent. this forum offers little in terms of mercy...

but

if someone has had enough of the game, the answer is that they stop playing. job done.

if however, they start a thread which states that they wont be playing any more,
then imo its because they are seeking something other than the stated intention of the thread.

the thread becomes a mechanism for achieving something which is unstated.

personally i'm not a fan of being played. and if i think thats whats happening,
i make damn sure that it doesnt work out the way that person intended.

conversely, if someone wants to share a negative experience in order to vent a bit of frustration,
and is upront about it... then i have no problem showing a bit of solidarity.
reason being.... we've all been there.

Hutton Orbital claims another scalp.

To be fair to the OP, I have often blindly clicked a mission only to look it up on the galaxy map and see how bloody far away it is.
An awful sinking feeling is what you get!

But unlike the OP, it is 'challenge accepted' for me!
:)

Truth is, there are thousands of us that have learned our Hutton Orbital lesson in a similar way, but did not respond with anger and vitriol as a result. Perhaps a "Note to self: Don't go to Hutton Orbital", but not a "I HATE THE UNIVERSE, I QUIT, AND WANT A FULL REFUND!". Not that this is what the OP said, but this type of complaint thread is so very reminiscent of that extreme attitude, as opposed to how most people handle it,that it will never garner sympathy from the rest of us that simply say "D'OH!"

I tried them on; didn't fit. ;)

And I do fully agree that this forum contains a lot of iron fists and very few cotton gloves.
However: quitting a game because of a failed mission? And posting it on the forum? Smells funny, like fish (or a sweating camel perhaps). I could have written something about that, but there is already too many iron slaps here; instead I chose to focus on the camel, who I thought could not carry too many straws.

Oh, and since you started the imaging thing:

Fly safe.

I would hate to see your reaction to boosting into an asteroid with 3mil in unclaimed bounties... I bet that would somehow be FDevs fault too.
because the radar icon for the asteroid is hollow and not solid, it must therefore be a player-controlled asteroid, and is clearly yet another case of griefing. that heavily upgraded rock waited and waited for him to come along, with the sole purpose of ruining his day. i'd quit too after that.

The OP is named after a turnip. I'm sure he'll be fine. Turnips are known for their patience and resilience.

I don't usually engage in schadenfreude, but in this case I just have to say...

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(gasp)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If this is for real, you stumbled on one of Elite's great legacies. Embrace it and get back on the horse. Errr... I mean, get back in the cockpit. Hutton Orbital is a rite of passage. Sucks that you didn't make it, but it's there to try it again.

Don't let Hutton win!

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Well I don't see a lot of serious discussion here.... I think this thread isn't going anywhere constructive. Closed.
