I'm going to the grocery store here in a few minutes because for some reason, I want cherry toaster strudels. Just in case anyone is interested.
Calm down. I'm taking a break from the game, not filing for divorce. Its not that serious lol.
EDIT:
Oh, and I uninstalled to free up some HD space (I've got cleaning to do there).
And to keep myself from logging in.
...And to be a bit dramatic about it.
& that cheers you up? :O
F!
Wait... You’re not blue! It’s TJ’s fault!Enjoy the break!
Check out the therad in the offtopic gaming forum about what other games people are playing if you need some inspiration.
I'm finally done with ED. I've only supported this game for what it could've been, but it took me a while to notice I was lying to myself.
The excitement feeling started dying off about a bit more than a year ago.
I kept taking month longs breaks and every time I came back I would play the game for less and less time, also having to resort to Obsidian Ant to have an idea of what's going on (because the game manages to fail so hard, even in the current state, to tell players what's actually going on). Last time, couple of weeks ago, I reinstalled the game and only managed to play it for about 2 hours before dying of boredoom and simply uninstalling it again, very likely definitively now.
Oh, and can the devs and some players PLEASE stop calling this [very arcadey] game a Sim, please? The game couldn't be duller and simpler. There's no interactable cockpits, no complex navigation/avionics, the radio comms is just B S (you can't even hail another ship through voice comms like you see happening in the series The Expanse for example), the damage system is a joke for a sim (this is more like low level rpg damage system dependent on HP thresholds and DPS as opposed to an actual complex internal damage system like in Falcon BMS, DCS or even War Thunder for example), and the biggest dullness of all: exploration, which is just a "hold button to scan" mechanic giving you [gameplaywise] useless data that can be traded for credits so you can grind more...
Hah, silly me thinking, about 2-3 years ago, that maybe in a couple of updates the game would become more complex. Instead, what we got? New ships and decals, grind, thargoids (which are basically new USS that fight and deal damage like any other ship. Just the same with a different texture and name), and more ships and grind... Not even a bloody Flight Path Marker in the HUD could've been developed for the one of us that enjoy racing at over 600m/s at tree top level over planet surfaces...
I just wish it was possible to use the game as some sort of Space Engine, travelling through Milkyway without having to resort to Frame Shift Drive or any ship at all, and that was the only enjoyable thing about ED I used to like.
I'm not expecting anything but a letdown from Q4. I'm done.
This is CMDR Archer signing off, o7.
Uninstalled, Left some groups, moving on from Elite... At least for a while.
Good job Yamiks.
I've been here since August 2014, took a year out in 2017 played old fav games instead, came back in 2018 and I've now just bought Witcher 3 GOTY for £13.95. I'll buy the new Tomb Raider when it goes on sale, I'll buy Football Manager 2019 when it's out and these games will tide me over until X4 releases.
ED just doesn't have anything I want anymore although I still love flying spaceship. It's not enough.
I've never been overly critical of its progression and I've never really white knighted its cause, I just played the game as it was developed. Now I don't see where it's going or any reason to continue playing. It's been a fun ride on the whole and I wouldn't have missed it for the world but it now feels like a creaking mess. It lost it's way with the emphasis on wings, multi crew, PP and CQC.
The latest Thargoid content is not in keeping with the original premise i.e. you need 'special' weapons to combat them now. In the old games you didn't need that, your standard weapons would do if you were good enough. I get that the 'Goid content is optional so why wouldn't you have specialised weapons to fight them but if they are to become real time and in your space then how can any multi role ship possibly equip for them and NPCs and other Cmdrs? It's not been thought through and is driving FDev up yet another dead end.
I can't fault the graphics, the sound design or the feel of flying a space ship. The direction and content delivery failed a long time ago.
It's been a fun ride on the whole and I'd never say, never again, so I'll no doubt be back in the black sometime in the future.
Fly whichever way you like Cmdrs o7.
Ps And no you can't haz my stuffs as I might be back someday and it's all locked safely away in various starports.
Uninstalled, Left some groups, moving on from Elite... At least for a while.
No, you can't have my stuff (only because it isn't a feature lol).
Why?
Exhibit A:
Its no secret that the game hasn't lived up to all of its hopes and dreams, but there really isn't any sign that its going to magically turn around either.
So until that changes, I'm going into retirement as a pilot.
Exhibit B:
I've really run out of things to do. The worst thing I did in game was buy and engineer a Cutter. Once you reach the end of the line, there's not much else to do.
I've been to The Center, I've discovered ELW's, I've fought pirates for hours, I've smuggled slaves, I did the pre-3.0 rank grind, I explored Thargoid and Guardian ruins, I've cleared my save twice for kicks, and I fought Ed in a CQC livestream. I even survived CG's to buy an Anaconda in 5 months.
I haven't gone to Beagle Point because I refused to watch that many episodes of Star Trek lol.
I also never combat logged, never used "credit exploits", or "griefed".
So yeah, I think I've earned a break. I'll probably redownload the game later on and do a fresh start.
See you in a few months (years?), I guess?
