GUIDE: Planet sounds and how to know everything from System Map.

Aah I just found a Class V but someone else beat me to it :p
Anyway, here you go, for verification. Mine has a ring at least! :p ;)

Edit:
Oops, bad system map screenshot. Doesn't show which one it is.
This one is better:

It's thread gems like this that pop up from time to time in new posts that keep me coming back to the forums.

Still learning new things after a year of playing. Amazing.
You are amazing guys, thank you for the support!!!!! the video is superb, I'll keep us a backup, thank you very much!!!

Edit, Of course Rymdmannen is in contributors section

Added a video on how to distinguish Water Giants from Gas Giants bearing Water Life. The difference is in the grooving tune that the Gas Giant bearing Water Life has, and that on the other hand is absent in Water Giants. Video is here, and aaded to the Tutorial section

added a tutorial on how to use this guide on the go:

The following video shows you how to use this guide.
In the System Map I find a planet that looks like an Earth Like, but it is 50,000LS away. Listening to his sound I'm undecided of it's nature, so I alt-tab to this guide and listen to the sound of a real ELW. In doing so, I realize that my planet has a different sound, it's an High Metal Content, and given its position probably not even a Terraforming Candidate. I make up my mind and decide that it's not worth Supercruising 50,000LS for an HMC, and with a light hearth I jump away. In less than 2 minutes I could be sure I was not leaving anything meaningfull behind.

The images in the visual example list are temporary not working for the forum issues. Thinking at it better they don't make a lot of sense in a sound guide, especially now that I'm learning a little of video editing. So soon that section will be removed and the tutorial section will have more videos, maybe with an in-video description now that I'm learning the magic of adding text :)

I've done a bit of new recordings, I just need some time for editing and uploading. And I shall return to the bubble too, beeing out since 1st July and still 31K from Sol.

Added a Video tutorial on how to spot hidden ammonia worlds in the tutorial section:

Hidden Ammonia World: in this short video I show how to spot an Hidden Ammonia World. They look like Icy Planets, are usually big and frequently ringed and with moons. But the sound is quite unique, you cannot miss the initial silence and subsequent gorging.

thanks tho.. on the last bit of my return journey from my october exploration i found alot of Waterworlds and i think even an earth-like under a really thick Ammonia Atmosphere.
only my visiting i knew for sure. but i guess i could have just listened carefully from the system map.

tho this one was easy to id.. it can get alot harder with just looking sometimes.

So it seems to me that in Elite 2.0 planet sounds are not changed, and this is gold since now I'm committed in the DW expedition and have less time for updates.
I removed to (for patch 1.4) string in the title and we should be set.
If someone spots different sounds that ones in my recording please tell me.

This project might seem out of date now that we gave blue circles around the planets that became the most interesting.
But in due time almost every planet will be landable, and you will need sounds again :)

The update really killed the mood of the system map for me. What's with those white edges cutting into the shadows on the ride side of the planets? It doesn't look right at all and ruins the warmth of the starlight and natural feel of the light coming from the left. I made a thread in the bug reports area but no one seems to care. What a shame, the system map used to be so comfy.

Still, thank you very much for this thread!

Yeah, I found the lightning wrong too. If you link me the bur report I'll go there to say my opinion too :)

Mhhh, me thinks they have removed planet sounds from unscanned planets.
Now sound plays only after you have scanned the planet.
This guide is useless, I won't delete for Historic reasons but write big in OP.
End Trasmission.

My commiserations to all who used them in that case.

On the other hand, maybe they can take that extra step and make the pictures grey circles until we scan them too, orbital distance and mass are all the details we can see in the system map from an ADS honk, removing all short cuts to getting more info is good IMO.

The blue semi-circles for bodies you can land on would imply that FD don't agree with me - but hiding the sounds until you scan is a contraindication so you never know...

Umm, you sure they have been removed? I've been locating and scanning unscanned gas giants with ammonia- and water-based life from sounds all day today and yesterday without a problem, and all classes of gas giants makes sound for me... I haven't tested solid planets yet though (I distinguish them by looking at them, never needed sound to do that), will check tomorrow.

will check again, but happened in several systems. will recheck audio settings too
