GUIDE: Planet sounds and how to know everything from System Map.

just to make sure, when jumping into a system i should come out of supercruise for this to work?

cant wait to try this and see if it helps me. im not color blind but i am color deficient and have a hard time with shades of green, red and browns. mainly issues determining ammonia/rocky worlds apart. scanned a whole system last night and nothing but rocky planets when i thought at least a couple were ammonia based. :)

Yeah I logged in just to check the system I'm currently in that looked worthless and sounds like there are a couple candidates to go to.

Just wanted to make sure it's not a non supercruise only thing. Thanks

A big thanks to everyone involved in making this guide! Can't wait to get home and give it a go...had no idea about these noises.
(Am I the only one who thinks it's cool that metal planets have sounds similar to electric guitars? :D)

True story... :
- Capitan, there is planet 600,000,000 ls away on second star in this system wich look just like earth-like!
- Aright, set the course! Lets put our name on it!
Bit later...
- Captain, its just another high-metal with some atmosphere!
- ...

No idea how many times had this situation on early trips... but not anymore such disappointment, because they all have own sounds. Good thing there is thread about it. Rep+ ;)

I noticed thing about sounds in system map during my last trip that maked me Pioneer from Ranger, then later found this thread.... Too bad I did not had that knowledge during my trip to SagitA* or on other trips... but back then there was no explorers subforums and I did never bother myself to zoom into planets at map to listen at them during travel. It was when found my first earth-like on my most recent trip... I started readin its details on max zoom, and heard something like birds... and then realized that all objects have own sounds if zoomed.. wich is very, very cool. Person who created these sounds is amazing. Once realized/learned, it makes exploring much more juicy.

19ly in supercruise in one system is surely some kind of record though ;)

I don't mind the odd few hundred thousand ls to check out a planet that looks earth like, I enjoy the anticipation.

This is rather great and the sounds in this game are really great. But how is it possible to hear these sounds without really getting up close?

Also:

How long before someone figures out what files the game reads and creates a cheat for this?

In fact Ammonia World have louder sounds, i have found many and i recognize this too. I think that somwhen, maybe few month ago, the dev tweaked their sound a little bit, also becouse i was not the only one to have noticed that before 1.3.
Btw, my apologies to everybody i told they were wrong, i was sure about my 25 discovered, but needed fresh data.
.
They STILL silence the background music, and are very different from HMC, but they do noises indeed.
.
So i asked other CMDR to register ammonia world sounds, and will update the guide next week. Probably i'll take out a lot of words and weird descriptions, and sure I'll spoilerize all the recordings to make the guide accessible from device too.

Can't thank you enough. You have made exploration fun and interesting for me. Looking forward to your update

big revamp of the guide:

1: added a recording that shows the differences between the various solid planets
2: added a recording that clarifies the sound of ammonia
3: spoilerized all the recording to make it mobile friendly

A BIG THANK TO CMDR ASC THAT MADE COMPARISON RECORDINGS AND AMMONIA RECORDINGS.

Fantastic work by all involved.

I discovered, and bookmarked, this thread a while ago but only found the time to properly digest it this evening (over a lovely gammon, egg & chips). yet again I am left awestruck by the enthusiasm and dedication of the Elite community. Also a dollop of rep to the (sound ) designers for including such nuggets.

Thanks all

truth is, i totally misunderstood this thread first time i saw it. You prodded me in my own thread and i looked at it and i totally get it now, BIG rep to you and yes this should def be sticky

Did sounds change recently? I just experienced a planet which looked like an icy world, but sounded just like a metal rich world. Checked it out, and it was icy. Als9 had high metal world's sound like metal rich. Strange...

Why would you bother with a cheat? The sounds give it away, there is no cheating needed.
