One of my hobbies is building scale models, in particular scratch building. At some point I'll probably try my hand at one of the ships in the game. Say I were to use screen shots of a Python, or even an extracted 3D model, to aid in construction and airbrushing a scale model. Then I post photos of it to the forum because I'm sure there are people here that would enjoy seeing something like that. Going by the letter of the law with the EULA will I get my account banned? Technically FD could if they wanted. But I'm going to err on the side of being reasonable and say probably not. Especially if all I'm doing with the model is displaying it in my hobby room and not selling it on ebay or something else to make a profit.
Actually after reading some of the responses in this thread I can't wait to do just this to see how many people would call for an investigation and banning.![]()
You could even sell them if you did it as openly being your model of an ED ship. Making the clear distinction that ED is no part of it (not affiliated). The main reason is it's unlikely a tangible model ship would be mistaken for a digital ship (you created something new). Not so if the ships are trademarked. In that case it's not possible for you to make the distinction that ED is not affiliated, as by definition the general ship appearance itself would imply affiliation. (like if I painted pepsi logos and sold them, pepsi could stop me)
The EULA cannot supersede your LOCAL laws (Fed, state, prov, terr, ect).
