Holy Moley.

It just keeps getting better.

For the first time I can really appreciate the size of the weapons compared to the pilot - something I'd not thought about in-game too much.

Do you still need shots of the underside with the lower hardpoints deployed?

So, Gwen, where in the world are you going to put it once you're done?

Hang it from the ceiling? (Hard to see the detail work unless it's hung low enough)
Make a stand for it?
Place it under glass in a new coffee table?

One which the glass turns into a computer screen so you can play ED from the couch? :)

I will likely hang it from the ceiling next to my cockpit where I fly elite.

Actually I could really use some decent shots of the underside hard points with small missile packs deployed. I also really need some close shots of the landing gear deployed with views from all sides. :)

Oh and just for you here's a size reference photo. Obviously the laser is still under construction. :

Much Kudos !

My 1st post on the ED forums and after seeing this amazing creation in the Newsletter I thought I would pop by and congratulate you on a job well done :)
May I ask where you learned your metal working skills ? Best of luck towards getting the cobra finished (I for one can wait) ;)
I do hope you get some attention from the ED team as it surely deserves being seen by as much of the community as possible :)
Best of luck Gwen :)

Thanks for your kind words. I learned metalworking from a number of different things I've done over the years. I used to work as a goldsmith when I was in college. I am also a private pilot and I built and test flew my own airplane about 8 years ago. I am the sort of person who just isn't happy if she's not making something with her hands, so I always have several projects going building something. And I have learned a great deal from reading books like "Metalworking for Craftsmen" by Oppi Untracht.

She's looking great!

Any plans to make those lasers lase? A couple of $3 cat toys or old optical drives should furnish some eye-safe diodes.

Gwen you have the class and the talent. I did not know this thread and I discovered because Frontier indicated it on the home page of the site of ED. I will watch regularly now because I really want to see the finished art work.
Perhaps you'll paint the art work ? If yes, you have an idea of the color ?
Congratulations again

Bravo

Just logging in to say how amazing this metal cobra is ! Beautiful work ! I wish I could see it for real !

Thank you for your very kind words. As for color I'm thinking... Purple :)

thanks to Mobius
a rough possible preview of purple (unless Gwen has a total different texture in mind):

But...

thinking about it,

Gwen, please don't look at these photoshop pictures... do it as you WANT do it.. the things you have just done on the model surface are incredibly nice.. i am sure you will think the right textures to apply on it with the right purple mix.

It's coming on a treat Gwen.

As It's been mentioned in dispatces I'll stick the thread for a little while if no-one has any objections?

I object. Stickying the thread is just not enough... it should be on the Elite Dangerous front page :D

That is an awesome piece of work and especially as I'm assuming that its all hand cut and formed panels?

Not that using CNC would be any less special, just a different set of skills...(starts thinking about GCoding a Fer-de-Lance ;) ).

Yes all hand cut and shaped or hammered on an anvil. Wish I had access to a cnc machine though...:)
