Hackers and combat loggers, the demise of ED

I feel the same way OP , but let's not forget about the bad instancing.
But I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if you have something bad to say about this game in this place. People here are so blind because of their fanboism that they will say anything to defend their precious game.
If this game is so fun, then why do you people spend so much time on the forums? This alone should say a lot.

Waiting for a moderator to censor me, because nothing beats walls of text which resemble a FOX News debate.

Because if you're not playing ED 24/7 it's not a fun game right?

Come on, be sensible, this forum is for discussion not disparagement.

Regardless of the countless reports I submit, regardless of the amount of video evidence to support my claim, the half measures of FD with regards to hacking and combat logging are destroying this game. I report hackers and combat loggers and see them the next day doing the same thing.

What does this mean for Xbox release? It is very bad news. Hacking in xbox has traditionally been worst than PC gaming because of the age of said gamers, and whilst there is no server architecture, this game remains one of the easiest to hack games on the market. The hacks are free and there is little to zero repercussions for hacking; with this policy, FD is destroying their own games longevity. Remember Dayz? because thats whats going to happen to ED at the current rate.

Group play, the functionality of the block list (being able to block known pirates from potentially being in your instance) means that the game experience that was sold to me, is simply not on offer any more.

I urge, I plead... FD do something, do something more, and make it public to clear combat loggers and hackers from this game, you said you guys were working on it, well time is up, your first paid content is not far around the corner and unless you fix these absolute burning issues, there is no way I am going to be sold a product that doesnt work as intended. I would be happy if no content whatsoever was delivered in 1.4 but it fixed these 2 things alone....

Your forums are moderated with an iron fist, and your game is policed by captain feathersword. It is time to switch that around.

I love this post. That ending is totally correct.

There will always be people who spoil the game in open play. No batter what you do, there is a type of person who will go to any means available in order to grief or troll other players. Many of us accept this fact and opt for solo play. We are then free to do as we please free from these people. Moreover we are free to play as we see fit without having to worry that you may come across as a griefer to another player (speeding around docks, going AFK on a medium pad at an outpost, combat logging etc.)
Nobody cares if I do this in solo, however there is constant pressure from open players to change the game every time the griefers use an aspect of it to spoil their experience.

If you are enjoying playing the game on open play with the risk of ganking and have some code of honour where you never cheat, exploit, pick on those weaker than you or combat log when you have no chance of winning then good for you. If you expect everyone else to respect and abide by them when you are around then you are delusional verging on narcissistic.

You demand a one minute combat log timer, so if your power/internet goes down or the game crashes then you are screwed. All so that your righteous sense of honour is satisfied and nobody is allowed to quit when they are losing. Non-consentual PVP boils down to a choice between being the dog or the lamppost.

What's griefing to some is not griefing to others.

And of course people shouldn't be able to quit while losing lol losing is part of the game, and the experience. My parents always used to say - if you can't handle losing, don't play with others.

Yes Hacking is very easy, the most common are probably the trade bots, however I've played DayZ for years and that game is full of bugs, hacks and nasty people. Again I still play it, I fully enjoy it, and I guess ED are in the same boat.

I've mentioned this before but could FD implement a number of server instances of their own? It would be random if they handled your instance but anyone on their server could be checked easily.

I doubt they could use AWS for this purpose.
Which means they'd need a server of their own capable of doing that. Which means money.
A server means maintenance costs.
A server means a server administration team.
A server admin team means hiring more people, which means more costs.

FD specifically chose the p2p route for financial considerations; without a consistent revenue stream it's not feasible to have your own server. In order to do this, FD would likely have to make ED a subscription based service.

If you like, PM me and I will provide you a lot of footage encountered by either myself or my clan mates. I encounter hackers on average once a night, I encounter this because I want to pvp, I seek it out and sometimes you can nuke a guys shields down fast and other times, they sit on 1% forever...tonight I encountered a commander in a FDL with 5 beams, 5 shield boosters and an unlimited capacitor, also the ability to refill his shields completely with 1 shield cell bank (impossible with a4 shield cells and that amount of shield boosters) and having no heat issues either! with 5 beams!

This is not an over reaction, the more people realise that they can hack and get away with it...the more people will, and the game will be like dayz.

There's no reason to have SCBs if you are scripting (not hacking). Script kiddies often want to appear to not be script kiddies. The fun is in you thinking they are that good. The talented ones are the ones who do it so covertly you'd never notice. These guys hide in notorious groups and so complaints against them are seen in the macro, they share blame with the group and it's just whining by the one they griefed. Or they do it during CGs and barely get into the top 5% by doing basically nothing. Their hardest task it knowing when to turn it off so they don't stick out. This is why CZ CGs won't ever be leveled.

There are plenty people using scripts and there always will be in P2P games. That's because more than half the users don't want the grind, they just want to be at the elite level and above right away. They want all the money and all the power and to treat the MMO game like a single player offline experience where real people are actually just NPCs.. that whine.

This is why I never get too involved in the competitive aspect of online games. I learned my lesson a long time ago when "teams" would have unreal kill/death ratios and you'd die and the death cam would show no one around. I learned of the aimbot shortly thereafter and the gaming groups all denied ever having even heard of it, it doesn't exist, impossible to even create.

Just enjoy the game for what it is. Play in groups or solo or whatever. Open is just a proving ground for brave script kiddies to get their lulz.

Right on the nose with that one, it would be expensive to have a server, and p2p can work just fine, though yes it is significantly tricker to do code wise, but definitely can work.
I mean look at GTA Online, p2p as well, massive hacker problems on PC and old gen, though it seems like now after what? 1½ year? they finally fixed it, though I haven't checked myself.

Not everyone was raised by your parents.

If I buy a BMW and I drive it for a few months but then never touch it again, meanwhile new versions keep coming out but I keep telling everyone how rubbish the BMW is with my experience based solely on THAT BMW, why should my opinion carry any weight at all? As far as I am concerned, if one doesn't play the game then one's commentary is meaningless; nothing but noisy fluff. *shrug*

Each to their own though; I'm not going to stop people from posting (I can't, obviously) but I don't have to approve of it. :)

You get one chance to make a 1st impression. Everything after that is corrective actions.

Exactly. Being able to log during battle might as well just remove rebuy costs and take all meaning out of dying as well as depth of combat. Just zerg rush the Ai and respawn with full ammo! yay exciting tension

FD are not on the side of the open player. They don't defend open or help it.
We're not wanted. By FD or the playerbase.

Just the fact that they put in a combat log timer tells me everything.

They don't interfere in Open. That doesn't mean they don't care. They don't get involved in player fights. If you play in open you must be prepared to be destroyed by another player and realize that FD will NOT get involved unless there is cheating which is documented in their logs.

there is no server, it is peer to peer only...wherein lies the problem.

It's peer to peer in PvP. There is a transaction server which keeps a record of cmdr. funds, reputations etc and updates the cmdr. files. All character information is stored on FD's servers.

Necro thread.

It appears anyway the change to the new architecture and some new tricks from FD have caused a crimp in a new release of the most popular hack. Cannot discuss here, against forum rules, but do some googling and you can read about it.
