Happy Anniversary CMDRs - on this day 8 years ago, the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter began

And on this day I flipped a coin between ED and SC, the pound coin fell off my hand and rolled under the sofa....lazily I flipped another 10p coin and it was ED....I always wonder where that pound coin RNG would have sent me.

Don't worry. Chances are high, that you will have to replace the sofa or have to move before SC is being released. So if the coin would've sent you to SC, you still are not too late. :D

My husband (CMDR Wrongway) asked me if I remembered him playing Elite - I certainly did, used to watch in awe for hours! At the time I never dreamed of playing myself as it looked so complicated and I thought I would never be able to 'fly'. By the time of the Kickstarter, I had been playing Air Warrior and then Aces High (World War 2 combat sims) for 14 years and was well used to 'flying', with full HOTAS and rudder pedals already part of my gaming setup. I was so excited at the thought of flying spaceships and didn't take much persuasion to become a backer, starting small and gradually increasing to pledging enough for Alpha access. Best thing I ever did and the last 8 years have been some of the best of my life!

Backed the game as soon as I saw the BBC article on the Kickstarter - after checking that, while multi-player was an option, it was not required to play the game.

And to think that you so nearly missed out on epic forum battles with me- a hidden KS bonus beyond price all down to RNG coin flipping!

I wish I'd had money at the time. I actually saw the kickstarter with time to put a bit into it, but at the time I really didn't have any "disposable" income to speak of.

Happily, the LEP came out again, at a time when I did have "disposable" income.

So, thanks to all those folks who got it off the ground in the first place.

Eurogamer alerted me to the project's start. Instantly backed it, supporter #938 🎉

I was happy to watch it succeed and then I came in at beta with a lifetime pass. Mine had a bug where it had Shinrarta and Sol unlocked, which I was happy to learn about after the fact. I've been off and on but recently jumped in and ranked up to rear admiral and took mining seriously, so I'm now a new billionaire and about to deck out a corvette up to A grade. Then I'm starting on the rest of engineers and then the guardians. Still lots to do. I've never seen a black hole, or a thargoid.

Not sure about Sol, but the £85 pledge tier includes the option to start in Shinrarta Dehzra:
