Has anybody managed to run OpenComposite AND another software like OVR Toolkit?

Hi

i try to figure out if it is possible to run an additonal programm like OVRdrop or OVR Toolkit with E: D.
Has anyone managed to do somthing like that?

Yes, you can use overlays. I haven't tried third party tools, but SteamVR supports overlays and many apps use this (e.g. you can get a web browser displayed in your headset while playing EDO if you want). Haven't got it working with OpenXR yet.

If i start OVRdrop i get an error: Opencomposite DLLMain Error: Cannot init VR: unsupported Apptype 2

If you use the OpenVR branch of OpenComposite then you cannot use OpenVR overlay apps. If you use the OpenXR version of OpenComposite you can use any OpenXR layer you want (openxr toolkit, openkneeboard, obs-mirror, etc).

Can you provide some additional details here? I had about given up getting this working. I wanted to use OpenXR Toolkit along with OpenComposite with ED to get the eye tracked foveated rendering with my Quest Pro. But I noticed that I could not get my OVR Toolkit to start up without errors. Im currently using OpenComposite runtime switcher (OpenXR). Am I using the wrong one?

Same quest pro user here. any update?

I am able to get OpenComposite running with my Quest 2 via Airlink or Link with some issues. I tried for several days to get it running without any luck. Then i tried to start Elite with VorpX. This made open Copmposite recognize the game and i am able to play it with foveated rendering. Only little problem is, that if you go into menus, the headset stears your mouse. Its sometimes a bit confusing but the game runs much better with OC. You have to run both, VorpX and OC. VorpX messages at startup, that it cant run the game... ignore that message. It starts, OC runs...

Quest 2 here. I installed both OpenComposite and the OVRToolkit, but I've only ever got OC working - OVRToolkit never "see's" Elite Dangerous. OpenComposite just works; you install it, run it, hit the switch button, turn it off, job done. There is probably a way to get OVRToolkit to see Elite, but I've not bothered to look into it to be honest.

what does OC do when you say it works? Like i wrote before, OC/OVR sees Elite if you run VorpX

I mean my Steam version of ED Odyssey starts up in VR without SteamVR kicking in. I don't need to run anything else, just start the game which I do via minimal launcher (maybe Minimal Launcher is the answer?).
For OC, all I did was download OC, run it, hit the "Switch to OpenComposite" button, checked in the configure button window (Elite listed as using OpenComposite) but had no need to adjust anything, closed OC, played the game. Every week or so I open OC again to see if it has an update.

Thats interesting. What do you mean with minimal launcher? Elite never showed up in the list of OC on my system before i used VorpX

Minimal ED Launcher is a replacement ... er ... launcher. Simplifies things for me as I run two shortcuts; one for VR and one without. My shortcuts just have edited "target" lines with the required options that minimal launcher allows/requires for my setup (steam - ody - vr). All I do is put the headset on, start the Link*, run the VR shortcut and I'm in game in VR a few seconds later.

I don't know what to say about OC not seeing Elite Dangerous. I have Steam versions of ED and Ody, and as I said above, I never had to do anything to get it working/show in the OC switcher. IIRC, is there not a per game way to use OC with software? Yes, Copying files into the ED Ody directory. Again, never tried it myself but might work for you?

*Just in case, AFAIK, Virtual Desktop requires Steam VR, so OC wouldn't work with VD although the per game instructions for OC suggest it might. I've never tried OC with Airlink.
