Has anyone copped a penalty re-buy yet and how's it working?

Flying into an enemy or "hostile" power, and wasting as many "hostile" human players I can, was always the greatest enjoyment to me in this game!!!
As others have pointed out, "enemy" or "hostile" ships as defined by the game should be fair targets and not incur a PF bounty, nor should anything in an Anarchy system. If you're seeing behaviour other than this, report it as a bug.

It's another step toward destroying Elite: Dangerous and turning it into Elite: Fluffy Rainbow.
There is no such rank or rating as "Fluffy Rainbow" so that sentence makes no sense.

This re-buy penalty is a horrible change made to this game!!!
After you play this game as long as I have, it really starts to get boring, and the only thing that never gets boring in this game is PVP combat.

Isn't PowerPlay exempt from the new karma system? I never understood players complaining when my PP character attacked them for being "hostile" - after all, they chose to participate in PP. And yet, that's exactly what many of them do, so much so that I turned off direct chat for that CMDR because I grew tired of the unwarranted insults.

I'm glad they implemented some type of C&P. Cause the galaxy seems to be one giant Somalia to me in open before it.

Seems this will encourage those who want to grief to just pick weaker targets they can kill with cheaper ships, if money's even a concern to them.
I don't really have a horse in this race but if I did I'd see it as inadequate as a protection measure. I do see it as additional flavor. A start, perhaps?

The devs specifically mentioned numerous times in beta this is a first step, and the main thing comes (as we recently heared) with Beyond. It fixes some obvious exploits, which is good. And if it scares some people who misbehave into staying in their corvette than that is a bonus. :)

Yes, there is a power play exemption (discussed in detail in the 2.4 beta).

Yup, I just dont like that it only applies to players. NPC's are people too and shooting down non-wanted NPC's in non-anarchy space should have the same penalties.

What a bunch of "snowflake horse " this rebuy penalty is.....

I guess I'll just have to hang this game up... and go play something else.
Hey, I just got GTA 5!!! Think I'll load this game up. Hopefully this game won't be full of stupid rules that protect all the pansies that play it....

Off you go then: A player who started just killing other CMDRs because 'got bored', considers his prey 'pansies' and is going off to play something else because of the new 'stupid rules'.

*wave*

Proof that the new system is at least partially working as intended.

I'm not sure about the penalty rebuy but I Iost all my modules when I respawned in my Aspex out in the Pleides after being killed by a Thargoid.

The rebuy screen was different, and I selected, as I usually would, to spawn back in the ship I just lost, which it did, but minus ALL the internal components and the utility mounts. I was left with a ship with the core components that I had put in and that was all. And spawned at a station with no shipyard?

What the hell Frontier?

I am guessing I should have also selected all the modules I wanted one at a time as well? I don't understand this new rebuy screen or why it would give me half a ship?!?!?

Guess I'll slide over into a Suicidey and take a look at the rebuy screen again to figure out what I did wrong so I can practise getting it right before it happens again and REALLY screws me up.

So much wasted time.

So much time setting up the HOTAS, only to have the setttings blanked when I plugged in another HOTAS. So tired of logging into the game, spending an hour or so fighting with the game, and not actually getting much play.

Tried to play last night but all my friends were in a different play group, so I have that to apply for before I can rejoin them. I also have a fun couple of hours ahead remapping all the ship and SRV controls.

Help us out here FD, give us a config file we can use please!!!

Sorry, bit off topic, but I seem to spend more time trying to do things in the game than actually doing things.

So instead of exploring Thargoid content, I spent the evening trying to get my ship back up to spec, gave up and went back to the bubble feeling sad and frustrated.

"Snowflakes", "pansies" - as one of my teachers used to say, are you bragging or complaining?

Newsflash,

Frontier Developments is on tenterhooks since they learned that Rick Storm, THE Rick Storm, also known as CMDR Archetypical Snowflake has lost faith in their product and will drop it in favour of GTA 5. We haven't heard from anyone inside Frontier Developments but expectations are that this shocking news will result in immediate resignations.

Of course we'll be standing by and will report any developments on this hot topic.

Back to you John.

The problem is... is that the galaxy is very, very big, and all the human players can easily get spread thin over the galaxy.
Sure, no rebuy penalty for wasting someone in an anarchy system. But the problem is, where is an anarchy system that has al lot of people roaming around in it?

No, most people that play this game either hang around in headquarter systems (many are not anarchy systems), or they go to the community goal systems (and again rarely are anarchy systems). So if you want to pvp in those places (where there's more people and more competition) you will have to pay this outrages fine every time you kill someone. It's just like PVP'ing, and just killing yourself!!!

... isn't Maia an Anarchy?
Loads of CGs there recently.

Also, I have no sympathy for you here, because there are ways where you could begin to think tactically and avoid the rebuy penalty (because it only applies to killing clean players), such as goading players into firing first, not picking clean targets, or only picking on enemy power play players; or reduce the penalty by getting gud at PvP with a smaller ship. But hey, if all you want is an easy time of it killing clean players without consequence, then there's nothing anyone can do to help you.

Some folk are just not into PVP as noted by Mobius being maxed out, anyway, with this new penalty for murder, I might return to open, maybe certain commanders will be less likely to fire on folk who are just minding their own business.

It won't hinder the serious parties, but if it stops 'I'm bored let's PK' play; great.

I cannot find the actual rules regarding PvP and Powerplay anywhere.
I know I saw them during the beta, but cannot find them now.
Looked through the beta mega-thread, got nowhere, just a ton of suggestions, but no clarity from FD.
No explanation in the patch notes either.
Help?

The thread posted by Sandro explaining the changes to PP that FD was looking at is here. Its a long thread (31 pages), but Sandro's post #416 seems to be the changes FD decided to go with.

What I'm talking about "Brokk", is that when I loose a ship in PVP, I just pay for my own ship I lost, and not the additional cost (equivalent to my own ship) on top of that for wasting people before hand. Guess maybe you don't understand that, as it's way to complicated for your little brain...

it is hilarious. for 3 years now a few people have been raking in the salt playing as serial killers because "hollow box" with zero push back from the game telling their victims to git gud or go home.... now, when the game pushes back a tiny bit - which is still far far less than some of them have been costing other players, and the toys coming out of the pram. priceless really :D

if players just want to PvP for fun with little consequence, but don't want cqc, do it in anarchy and turn off report crimes..... but demanding FD cave in a change ED from an economy based game to a pew pew arena shooter is not on.

I lost my gunship to a goid when it did it's final suicide explosion. And ended up paying for my Corvette. There were no warning this would be the case until the rebuy screen. The rebuy tab said 5-mill for the gunship. And nothing else. They at least need to show you your "true" rebuy cost in the rebuy tab. (Current ship + bounty ship rebuy + system/pilots federation bounty) in that style.

As for how it changed my play style. I have doubled down on never leaving my Corvette again. It's sad to have to stick my beloved Asp "Solidus Comet" in storage at Sol. But I would rather fart around in my Snake Eater at 15 LY a jump than risk paying an excessive rebuy because of a botched high G landing. Plus all these large ship transfer costs are getting higher and higher it seems. So I may as well just manually fly there.

But as annoying as this new system is. It won't stop terrorism. It won't stop anyone with bad Intentions. And it won't stop me :)

It will only stop newbies, you know, the ones most people can easily fight off or escape from. For the truly dangerous ones, it will do nothing, because by that point, you'll have money to burn, and very rarely get destroyed.

Honestly, C&S needs to stop focusing on money, it means nothing. Block people accessing stations, engineers, or even systems altogether, and it would start to get more interesting. Throw in station/systems/engineers *only* accessible by bad guys, and you make it super interesting...
