Has anyone tried Palmer Luckey's RR1 repair kit for the sliding contact headphone design flaw?

Has anyone tried Palmer Luckey's RR1 repair kit for the sliding contact headphone design flaw?

I just came across this now. My first CV1 developed the fault and was replaced under warranty. When my second headset developed the same fault I didn't really fancy posting it away and having to wait Elite-free while my new headset arrived so I just used headphones instead. But having to deal with another separate wire for the sound is a bind. It's one of the things that attracted me to the CV1 in the first place

Just ordered one, cheers! My right audio stopped working abt 1yr into use and ive been using headphones ever since.

Please come back to this thread and tell me how you get on with it. If you got it okay, and how difficult was it to install

I sent an email on June 17 2019 asking if one of these could be sent to me in the UK - was willing to pay shipping costs - no reply, or RR1, to date (Sept 25 2019). Ho hum.

Palmer replied to me, but as I hadn't opened a support call with Oculus regarding the problem wouldn't send me anything until I had and provided him with the support ticket info. I couldn't be bothered as I'd stopped using the CV1 at that point any way:

"Happy to help! A couple thousand people have reached out over the past week, I am waiting for requests to drop off before finalizing the production run.

I know you are out of warranty, but your first step should still be reaching out to Oculus customer support. You should see if they are willing to replace or repair your headset, forward the ticket to me if not and I would be happy to send you a repair kit.
"

That was Feb 2019.

I'm guessing this failed PR stunt is err .. not valid, and there are no folk who have received the kit then?

I had my CV1 replaced again last year because of the headset speakers track issue and that was just before its UK warranty expired. I was 'Luckey' & I doubt Oculus support would even give me a ticket to send to a fictitious replacement service now, even if i wanted to pay them to do it.

Fingers crossed my CV1 replaced (under warranty) four times since launch survives for another week eh?

Oculus just replaced my CV1 (right phone dead) for the second time, this time they hardly asked any questions, I just described the problem and they immediately offered a refurb replacement. But next time (I'm expecting it to happen again eventually) I'm assuming I'll have to do something like the RR1. It's just a ground wire so should be reasonably easy to do a DIY version.

I did manage with a wire from one headphone to the other round the back of the heaset, ala youtube vids, for quite a while, but now both phones are gone, so that doesn't work any more. Have submitted a support ticket to oculus, so we'll see.

Ok, so reached out to Oculus support. They replied quickly and have asked a few questions (are drivers up to date, any probs with sound otherwise etc) and have requested I supply them with pics of the Rifts HDMI and USB connectors (both ends) to check for bent pins. Have supplied them with pics and hope to hear back soon.

It sounds like you're on your way to getting a new headset mahoon. Oculus support did replace my original headset when the flaw manifested itself.

I might even still be in time for a replacement myself. The problem is that it means I'd be without my headset for a while. It's what happened last time. I'd actually prefer the fix kit so I can do the repair myself.

I originally purchased my cv1 in the US, and have since moved to Australia.
For me it was the right headphone which died(around 6 months ago). Now the whole thing is falling apart. The glue seems to be just no longer stick and the sensors are failing.

Oculus down right refused to replace the headset for me. Simply because I moved. They offered me a refurbished headset for around $50 less than a new one. Needless to say, I told them where to shove it.

Ok, so Oculus got back to me -
'Great to hear back form you.
Please allow us some time to look into this for you.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding.'

I too, would prefer the fix kit rather sending items off and waiting for their return, but you can't have it all as someone once said. I'll give them a week to 'look into this for me' before I start poking them with pointy sticks.

That does seem harsh. The item hasn't magically morphed into something else just because it's located somewhere else. I'd have thought there was a large enough Aussie user base for them to have some repair/replacement system in place, but what do I know?

Well, looks like Oculus Support are doing me a solid. They're sending a pre-paid shipping lable so I can return the headset for a replacement (that may or may not be refurbished). They have pointed out that this is one-off exception for me (not sure why I qualify for such treatment, perhaps simply being polite and doing all the previous testing steps, as asked, was sufficent?) as I think the alternative would be the offer of a refurbished headset at a reduced price. Will continue to update as and when.

honestly I feel like they've probably just got a bunch of leftover cv1s that they'll happily get rid of for the customer service points :p

So the headset has been sent back to Oculus for them to take a look and possibly replace. Will let you know the outcome when / if a replacement arrives.

I am impressed. Oculus sent out a replacement headset that arrived today. According to the parcel tracking it was a Grade B refirbished set. Looks, feels and smells brand new to me. Headphones work a treat, everything is great. Very pleased I reached out to Oculus, they have been superb in my case. Here's to the next couple of years of grinding for that fleet carrier... o7

mine broke just before warranty expired. i did open a ticket and got a prompt answer, they were ready to replace it but i decided it wasn't worth the hassle: i play seated and while the buds are indeed nice i actually prefer the immersion of my headphones. i just removed them for good.
