Hauling in a Wing

that is not true... if you both are at the same station, and both have the same rep, and if you are both in the same instance.
the mission board will give you somewhat the same missions.
ive allready had it happen multiple times with assasination missions.

rank may play a part in the payout tho.

Not in OP's case, haulage missions, unique cargo. no multiplayer option.

And my definition of a multiplayer mission is a mission is a mission deliberately designed by the dev to be completed by or with aid of a group, where all parties benefit from that mission. 2 friends having the same mission by happy accident and tagging the same targets is technically multiplayer in some sense but very cumbersome.

I would like to see missions that a CMDR can take from the mission board, share with his friends via the coms panel, and complete with their aid... where all participants are rewarded, like a group base assault or heist

So this! For example, a cargo haul AND a hostile sent against you. You both get the credit for the haul and you both get credit for the escort ship downing the pirate.

Missions that only show up when you are in a Wing.

UPDATE: Managed to get in a wing easy enough but had issues with Navlock, but it may be because we didn't know what we were doing.

This video was helpful, however, I still have a couple questions:

1. After engaging Nav-Lock, if the brackets are RED around my wingman (who i have slaved my FSD to), then i am too far away from them to have my FSD slaved?

2. If the trip has multiple jumps, after we arrive at our first leg, I assume I need to again get within range before the leader jumps again?

It was pretty fun even without the Nav-Lock working. I love how immersive the chatting is. The Comms sound like real comms even to the point of static and the beeping. Its pretty cool!

Question. A friend and I want to Wing up for some hauling missions. If both of us are in the same Station and grab the same missions, then Wing up + Nav Lock could we run missions together?

Probably don't need the navlock...for this...just agree which station we are going to in what order.

What about If I, in a T6, Wing with a friend in a Cobra as an escort. Will he/she get credit for my missions when i turn them in?

My friend and I just started a YouTube longplay series where we start Elite from scratch, get in a private group, wing up, and then haul data and cargo as we try to make enough money to buy new ships and rank up to Dealer.

After that, we plan on moving on to another profession like passenger transport, combat, etc.

You can find our show at YouTube.com/c/TheGamersShow1 and we'd love any suggestions you have!

But currently in 2.2 there's not a whole lot that we can do together in this way, except (as already pointed out) fly near each other in case something goes wrong, as well as share in TINY wing trade credits :-(

Also, the Wing Navlock is NOT GOOD imho.

Hopefully FD will upgrade this - I want my ship to jump at the same time as the one I'm locked to, AND drop out right next to it too (currently it doesn't do anything like that :-( )

The good news is (as you can see in our video) we both got all the same missions and therefore were able to travel to the same places and make the same money.

Looking ahead, I'm not sure if 2.3 will make this type of gameplay any better, but it is fun hanging out and playing through the game again :)

wingman navlock... one of the best features that doesnt work...

So True!!!

Power Play Merits. I heard you could earn more while in a Wing. Bounties for sure, but what about CONTROL cargo?

Ah, those.. I know nothing of Power Play, other than it's how you get to buy some of the more interesting toys - like packhounds and Imperial Hammers...
One of these days, when I've nothing else left to do, I may putter about it to get my hands on some of these things. Something about the concept of a Type-9 with 3 packhounds and 2 seeker racks going "You REALLY want what I'm carrying?" just makes me smirk.

Having flown in a wing quite a bit, wingman navlock actually works pretty well now...but you have to know the little quirks. Get into the habit of turning it off immediately every time you drop out on a wingman. When they jump out again later their beacon will still be where they dropped out so you will drop right back out on the beacon. So just drop out and turn it off.

Turn it back on after your wingman drops out, not before. The only time I don't do that is if they are getting interdicted then I turn it on immediately due to wanting to drop out on them without a delay. This seems to work a lot more reliably. I don't know why.

Also sometimes your approach matters. Like if you're dropping out on a ring res site, for whatever reason approach it at a 90 degree angle to the rings, like directly head on. For some reason if you drop out coming in at an angle to a res site it always drops you out too far.

Once you get the hang of it, it rarely gives you issues anymore.
