Horizons Have I got a sticker on me that say "Kill D38"

G'day all.
well as suggested by CERBERUS I spent my hard earned cr's and brought the Asp and started trading, made a few million and then I received a message telling me that a ship had been sent out to kill me and to be careful. Needless to say he found me and after a bit of a battle the Cobra killed me. So I re-brought the Asp and moved to another system and today only did small cargo and data missions for the Federation and the Alliance. Made a million cr today and just on my last jump to home base with no cargo on board was interdicted by a Python and needless to say lost another Asp E.

Hmm! my trader rank is BROKER and Federation rank Cadet,
I recon I will give up trading for a while if every day I am going to lose an Asp explorer.

Q.1. Am I doing something wrong? Can I get ships to protect me while trading?
Q.2 If I now go Exploring in the Asp Explorer will I still remain a target?

I rearly am wondering if I have got a sticker on me that says "Kill D38" or does everybody go thru this?

As soon as you are interdicted, boost and dodge using thruster and hi-wake out, and don't fight the interdiction.

No you're doing all right, we are all in same place :D
Handle it with fighting or running (make this decision wise in right time)
And......don't stack missions. Even harmless trade missions can go very ugly if you take 5-10 at same time^^

Well, be aware that you can do missions from the board which are rated beyond your current rank. They're more worthy than others.

However, the opponents are also harder to fight off.

Q.1. Am I doing something wrong? Can I get ships to protect me while trading?
Q.2 If I now go Exploring in the Asp Explorer will I still remain a target?

Q1: yes, an AspE is very capable to protect you while trading. put your loadout in coriolis.io, and i'm sure we can tweak it. also as above: boost and mines are your friends. pointdefence and chaff. don't fight if you won't win.

additional questions:

- are you running missions? which rank have that missions?
- do you have a bounty on your head? (see right hand panel)

if no, Q2 can be answered with:

- if out exploring you are very safe from npc. it can get ugly though, if you have an active bounty on your head or active missions - in that case, npc spawn up to 1000 ly from sol quite regularly (got jumped last weekend by a bounty hunters at a local black hole).

- if you return, return via a safe harbour. check security rating via system map, pick a high security system with starport close to entry point, and no war in system, and sell your data there.

G'day all,
thankyou for your thoughts.

Oldmanbill;
my build is the same as yours except for the mines, I see your point, if I'm gunna run I might as well lay mines, will do this re-arming tommorow and see how it goes.
Goemon,
missions are as afforded to my BROKER rank, but yes I have been stacking to fill the cargo bays, I will try only taking two jobs at a time and see how that goes.
No I do not have a bounty on the right hand panel.

Well gentlemen, thankyou all, will take all that advice onboard and keep boosting and thrusting.

Sorry to hear your tale of woe......BTW, I'm sure I recommended mines in the original post: Fit x4 of them in all of the 4 small hardpoints. DO NOT fit them in the top medium slots as I have found they can detonate on the fins.....

Note, if you get a mission where you get an update that some villain is after you....KNOW that when you either go into SC or when you reach your next star, they will spawn IMMEDIATELY. No warning, nothing on the scanner......the first you will know of it will be the interdiction itself. So be prepared.
As everyone has said, submit immediately so you don't take damage and long FSD spool up time. start running and boosting....only this time send out mines as you go. Try and keep the NPC "flat" on your scanner behind you (i.e. on the plane of the scanner not with a stalk up or down if that makes sense) and the mines will go to them. They don't avoid them and you will frequently kill them - just flip through your targets until you get to him and see if you are killing him. If so, stay, if not, FSD out.
On general interdicting villains btw, this attack by mines also seems to break the cycle of continuous interdictions by the same NPC. I don't think this works for mission specific ones, who will re-appear.
Note also to read the mission message - often it isn't just the one, might be 3, however they do not in my experience arrive in a wing, just 3 separate instances.

Come down to Wu Guinagi. I'll happily wing up with you.

Alternatively, you can put it in reverse with FA off and start laying mines as the bloke chases you. You get a few laser bolts and he gets the mine cupcakes. Either way you win. Then while this is going on, you can pick a safe Hiwake point, arm the FSD and spoil his fun unless he's already space dust.

Also fun!

Morning all,
Ahh! Being a trader and delivering cargo is now an acceptable risk since I followed the suggestions of oldmanbill/DC CERBERUS of placing mine on the Asp explorer. It's so much easier to lay a pattern of mines behind me than turning and fighting a combat ship.

I will have to try some of the methods suggested of how to lay mines . Especially the one of keeping their radar contact flat.

Interdiction's seem to be spasmodic at the moment but as you say they seem to just appear out of nowhere with no warning on the radar screen. The other day three ships spawned and that was a new one for me.

While the Asp (aka "The Chicken Coop") does not carry the huge amounts of cargo that other ships can, it has it's advantages in that.
1. It takes heat better than most while refueling.
2. Has a reasonable jump range of around 22-25lys laden with 70 odd tonnes of cargo.
2a. Has a higher cruise and boost speed than most ships chasing you.
3. Can jump about 7 times on a full fuel tank, so that you have the opportunity to get out of the belt of non fuel-able stars.
4. Can take on-board a decent amount of mines ( I have all points equipped with mines and have not experienced the mines catching on the fins from the large hard points )

Q1. Is there about 30 odd reloads of mines carried?

I am at the moment gathering for the engineers so I can improve my FSD speed and jump range.

Do you have any suggestions re mods that I could have carried out?

Thank-you DC CERBERUS and others for you suggestions, you all have made trading for me an acceptable risk and the game so much more enjoyable and playable. I have just cracked my first 100 million cr and have brought another Asp Explorer equipped to go mining on pristine metallic rings.

My advice is to learn to escape, first.

Learn how to select a nearby system, and jump there quickly. If you are interdicted, push your throttle to zero immediately. Once you pop into normal space, hit full throttle and boost away. As soon as your FSD is ready, jump to the system you selected.

If you learn to do this quickly, you will never lose another ship.

Once you've got that down, then you can start to actually look at who is after you, and decide if you want to fight or run. That's for later. Learn to survive, first, so you can get ahead!

Good for you CMDR! Glad it is working out.
I still like some other weapons on the Medium hardpoints just in case.......I have seeker missiles in them currently for the Hauler Asp - once I see the mines have taken out the shields I usually FA off turn and light them up with the seekers. Satisfying.

let's apply standard procedure of quoting one post that fits all of those threads:
I think somebody should just create one post to copypaste to every thread of this type. They are pretty much all the same.
So...
case 1: trading.
1. You build is probably ******. You can't fly without any defenses and almost no shields anymore. AI isn't braindead anymore. try creating new one on edshipyard.com
2. Don't fight interdictions. Slow down to 0, wait for submition. After jumping out select closest system and jump.
3. You probably don't menage pips: always put 4 pips to shields and 2 to engines when running.

case 2: fighting.
1. Get smaller ship ( eagle? ) and try to fight in it. It will teach you some skills.
2. Your build is probably crap. Always use best possible shields and best engines, if you can't afford them: Switch to smaller ship. Pulses and multicannons are best weapons, but there are some nice builds out there. If you don't have money to afford dying while testing them then stick to pulses/multicannons.
3. Don't fight interdictions, always submit. if enemy is too powerful jump to another system.
4. Do pips menagement. 4 pips in shields and 2 in engines if you run, remember that if you run multicannons you can put a lot of pips into shields or engines. Energy weapons need a lot of capactor energy.
5. Do you see this blue part of thrust bar? Keep your speed in it while dogfighting. It will give you best agility.
6. Use flight assist off. It's very hard to use so learn it using small ships. Otherwise you will kill yourself.
7. Energy weapons are good versus shields, kinnetic are good versus hull. Large/huge multicannons are a bit OP versus both things.

case 3: exploring/smuggling.
1. Look at chat. if you see any messages like "Oh, look! motherload of biowaste! I WANT IT BECAUSE I'M STUPID AI!" ( not quite same but you know what I mean ) after jumping out of witchspace approach sun and stay near it, AI will most likely crash into it.
2. If they interdict you look at case 1.2.
3. If you're smuggling get best engines possible and don't try to fight.
4. When docking with illegal cargo be fast and remember: They sometimes scan you inside station, but it's rare. 99% of the time you're safe after entering it.
5. When returning from exploration ask for escort. There are a lot of players who will help you.

Now, I'm sure it can be copypasted in every similar thread. They can't be merged anyway because people create accounts just to write those posts and don't care if similar ones exist.
Edit: thankfully I copied this post before clicking post quick reply because forum died...

If you see any thread similar to this just quote this post.

Equip your hardpoints with mines. Get in front of interdictor and start laying the mines. I kill 9 out of 10 this way. http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/25A5A...402i2fv6.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==?bn=Oldmanbills Asp

If people are still flying about with defences like this, it's no wonder the NPC's union has been laughing so much. 182 MJ shields? You may as well be shieldless.

I honestly feel putting a trade ship out their with the lowest equipable shield is no longer viable unless they're prismatic and you have full boosters.
