Have there always been doom/gloom threads?

I guess people are much more inclined to come online to complain.

I'd also venture that if you do enjoy the game you are too busy playing it to be bothered with all these negative threads and posts.

Yes, they exist at least since launch. I think they had them during beta too but I wasn't around yet during that time.

Another thing we always have is that when they release a new major update, the current update is the worst update of all. It's always like 2.x was good, but 2.y absolutely sucks. And next time the same people say 2.y was very good, but 2.z absolutely sucks. I could go on, but the alphabet doesn't let me.

Yeah that one I just don't understand at all. I have been a gamer since the C64 days (even pre-Elite) and if I find a game becomes boring or I just lose interest in it, I stop playing it and find another. I have never had the urge to stay on a forum to trash the game if I no longer play it. To me it is just weird, strange behaviour!

Does seem a bit strange, but there's a lot of passion for the Elite games and what they mean to people, many of us have been playing them for over 30 years.

As long as the criticism is constructive it's a valuable resource for making the game better for everyone.

As you say, what I don't understand is those who just seem to want to troll and flame the forum.

Same here. Remember those old tape load drives? ;)

Personal theory: they become so emotionally invested in the game that they think the company is obligated to them somehow.

Remind me, what does the 'E' stand for in 'LEP'? Based on some, I'm starting to think it's 'Entitlement'.

Edit: Expansion. I remember now.

What's funny is that most of the LEP owners don't have much problems with the current development approach while those who don't own it constantly say 'but does nobody think of the LEP owners?'... ;)

Yes there have, because:
  • there are three game modes;
  • all game modes affect a single shared galaxy state;
  • there are no corps / clans / guilds;
  • travel takes too long;
  • the galaxy is too big;
  • there's no player market;
  • there's no player / player credit transfer;
  • it's not *just* an MMO;
  • there's no player driven economy;
  • players can lose a complete ship through lack of rebuy;
  • etc.

1. Three game modes, sharing a single BGS, bad design decision from the get-go.

2. No corps/clans/guilds is a big letdown for who wants to play with their friends. Makes no sense roleplay-wise, in 2017.

3. Travel takes too long / galaxy is too big, which is awesome from a simulator point of view, but let's face it, making people waste TIME is bad game design. Going to BP or SagA* gets old after the first 30 jumps. Black screens are bad for the eyes too. Believe me.

4. There's no player driven economy/market or cred transfer, that's lazy design. Well we still have 6 of those 10 development years, so…

5. It's not just an MMO, I'd be cool with it. If it wasn't for point 1. And people exploiting solo/PG to escape consequences.

6. People can lose a ship for lack of rebuy, I'm totally for it. I'm actually against rebuys. Killed? Go get another ship. Immersion and all that.

Now I've truly loved ED and it's still (one of the) best space game(s) around. The Devs though hanged their hats up where their hands can't reach. Bold decisions without the proper contemporaneous MMO experience to back them up. It's gorgeous, Stellar Forge is Nobel material, ship piloting is so awesome.

All of this gets old because of meh game mechanics and lack of RPG diversity. It's a game afterall. Give guns to the players but give highwake, 15s Menu Log, Block, overlook CLog…
…a simple logoff timer would solve?
Unlikable, 10000 alpha damage cops?
Suck it up and separate the BGS?

An enormous galaxy with no diversity and the same things to see? Is space really like that? We don't know, right? Why not a bit of risk and use imagination to fill in the gaps?

Anyway.

It is a beautiful experience.

Sorry for format (at mobile)

nope me was smart :D I think I got one of the first 1241 floppy drives for the C64, just good timing on my part. Of course I then stole a hole punch from work so I could 'flip' the floppy - what can I say, I was a cheapskate back then lol

Personal theory: they become so emotionally invested in the game that they think the company is obligated to them somehow.

Obligated - hell some of then think they should be sitting on the Board of Directors because they gave a few dollars via Kickstarter or bought an LEP lol

I played the orignals not in in 84 mor like 89ish, but im also not playing at the moment the game became stale again thus I went off and played somthing else which led to me playing somthing else as of now, I do hang around here tho more out of the fact I know I know I will be playing again.

I dont think ive ever started a ED is crap thread tho, taken part in a few but even I have limets and find my self just closeing the forums as somtimes it really is the same old same old from both sides off the fence. I moan when I feel the need to moan and give FD praise when prasie is due, but yeah there are some posters here who do seem just to knock FD at every turn and for the smallist things which I do find odd.

I stopped playing EVE about 5 years ago after playing for 6, not been to the forums once in all that time, same with some other online games I used to play and post about on forums never been to them either, and when I take a break from Warframe I dont vist those forums or reddit, I do when Im playing it tho like now, but with ED I dont know this place is always one of the first places I check in the morning or on the bus home or last thing at night....yeah I might have a problem...:D

I think that's very a healthy attitude.
What bothers me are people who say 'If you disagree with me you are a stupid fanboy / white knight'. It can't be that I just have a different opinion. It also must be carefully ignored that I constantly criticise other parts of the game. They just think their opinion is so important and they must always be right, so everyone who disagress with them doesn't do it because he has his own opinion but because he is a brainless zombie. This attidute is so annoying that I would just prefer if Brett adds the terms to the swear filter. It's quite insulting if you ask me (I know, you didn't).
