I assume you have an FD account linked to Steam?

If so, then go here - https://tools.elitedangerous.com/en/register and using the linked account input any keys you have.

DON'T LOAD THE LAUNCHER FROM STEAM

Load the launcher from the start menu/desktop shortcut. Change the language in options away from 'system default'

Restart everything.

Try again - but DON'T LOAD THE LAUNCHER FROM STEAM.

The Steam launcher has been randomly bugging out all week after they did some mini update to the ED launcher.
It's probably just that. Some people have worked around by launching the exe directly. But probably easiest to just leave it alone and hopefully the new release will fix it for you.

Mind Explaining a bit more Detailed where you think the Problem is and how this comes together ???
I am somehow a bit behind right now and have pretty much no Idea whats up.

Also.
The Link you Provided Request a Code which I dont have or dont know where to get.

I purchased a copy on Steam over the weekend, as it was only £13.99 for both ED and Horizons (and some free paint jobs). I hit this error.

So, I tried starting from outside steam, this worked (no update error) but gave me only the ability to play a demo, and no obvious way to input the steam codes. You can view these from your steam account, but offhand I don't know where they hang out.

I then went to that link above, pasted in the LINKED commander's e-mail address, then the codes and it all worked.

It's possible if you've already done all of that by one way or another that just starting the launcher not via steam will resolve the problem.

And Yes I already Bound my Account in the Past in Order to use the Store with my Steam Account.


In the Meantime I did however find another Workaround for me.
As someone said the Launcher was Bugged. I went ahead and used the Horizons Launcher.
(When I start the Game over Steam it always Offers me to Start Elite Dangerous or Horizons)

It seems that whatever Bug has Afflicted the ED Launcher has not gone to the Launcher for Horizons.
So for whatever reason the Horizons Launcher Works Normal.


Well guess that Clears up the Topic as well.
So the Update Process has not yet Started. (At least not the Part which we will be affected by)
And the Youtube Picture of the Stream was not Updated to the new Stream yet.

Now that it's fixed apologies for the derail, sometimes it's difficult to contain the urge to mock people for having (not-serious) problems, but I guess this time it was unwarranted.

Ok. I rejected Easter as the holiday and thought it might be something else. We don't do anything for Easter here in the US. Well not in an official state capacity.

We have a public holiday for both Good Friday and Easter Monday. And today is St. George's Day (England's patron saint) which isn't a public holiday. 🤷‍♂️

Expected Down Time 8 hours, instability once available 12 hours, patch to fix Major Bugs / Crashes one week. This is all normal. Just like the download speeds you would expect when a million users access an update in a three hour window. :)

I don't mind when the update finishes, I won't play until at least tomorrow, just to let things settle down a bit. Just tough deciding which title gets the attention for the next day or so :)
